I was punched in the face and assaulted when I was pregnant by a student. Yes, it's real and actually happened. I hit my breaking point. Today's video is really personal but it gives you a glimpse as to what teachers actually go through. It'll help you see the differences between homeschooling vs public school.

I also have a degree in early childhood and quit teaching. After three years in an inner city school, I was mentally and physically burned out. I didn't even tell my last class I was pregnant because I had some physically violent kids in my class and feared one of them would try and kick me. A very large number of my homeschooling friends were previous teachers. I feel like this should be talked about more. It clearly sends a message in my opinion. It seems even worse now. I feel like at some point there is going to be a major teacher shortage because who is going to want to sign up for that? I feel like the days of many teachers sticking it out for 30 years are over.

Our teachers are so undervalued in our society which is infuriating. You would think after the year we had, that teachers would get more respect (or at least a larger paycheck). I think it's also tied to how Stay at home moms are viewed, and homeschool mom's. If you watch children, or teach children, you are viewed as somehow... childish. Not taken seriously. 😒 Thanks for sharing. 💕💕

I was a substitute teacher for a few years. My mother in law use to help me out 2 days a week babysitting and taking my oldest to school and picking him up. My in-laws moved out of state and I realized very quickly it was much cheaper to just stay home with my kids. I had a degree in early childhood education and after looking up the prices of Daycare and wondering how I’m going to get my oldest to school and pick him up, I decided to stay home with my children. It is expensive and it is cheaper for me to stay home with my children. Also I love being around my own children but bad behaviors of some children mentally drained me and I was exhausted at the end of the day.

Four of my mom friends who are teachers are no longer teaching! Two decided to quit to raise their children, another chose to go back to school and study a career in healthcare, another couldn't wait to finish her master's so she could do something totally different. What I got from being their friend, and hearing their unhappy stories, is that teachers eventually burn out and dislike teaching. It makes me wonder where teachers will be in the future, and it makes me sad for both potential teachers and future students. I wish there was more support in this field, teachers are so crucial yet underappreciated, y'all deserve better!

Omg. I've worked at private schools for 5 years now. The last 2 schools I've worked at are like this. They just cater to parents and not the teachers! Im moving in November and looking to open my own home daycare because I'm so burnt out and tired of teaching and following these weird school rules. Eventually I want to homeschool as well

I just stumbled upon a video you did about MFW which was excellent. Then saw this one and thought you quit homeschooling! I’m glad that you are still teaching at home! All of the reasons you gave for leaving teaching at an institution made sense and I unfortunately can vouch for others who have faced the same. Your children are blessed to have you at home. Who knows maybe you’ll be a face for change in education in public and private schools further down the road….you are articulate and passionate and that’s all you need!

Many I talk to say they only stay because they consider it a ministry. I realized the schools could never function as long as families were broken, educators disrespected, the system was dysfunctional, and teachers are prevented from educating but are running either a child prison or daycare and function more as a social worker. No amount of pay can make the current situation tenable. I was told by an older, master teacher that schools would be unable to find teachers in the future with the degradation rate. That was about 15 years ago and it’s looking like she is being proven correct. I heard a statistic that 45% of schools are under staffed this year. I see this happening locally. I have gone from thinking our system of education was the answer to helping so many children to seeing it actually tearing children down and families apart. It seems to be the biggest waste of tax payer money. Not that I want governments involved with homeschools! Keep your money and stay out of our homeschools!!

I taught in private schools for 10 years before I decided to stay home once I had my first baby. Best decision I made!! I absolutely loved my job and my students and was very hard to give that up, but then I had my baby and was sooo soo thankful I decided to stay home with him. Now I’m homeschooling him and will also my other two once’s they’re in school.

Around the 8 minute time mark, and ordering all that pizza. Making all that curriculum from scratch as an ELAR teacher is exhausting, then tiered work according to the level of the classes, then tutorial work :/ . I'm on the same path and trying to find an entrance into the IT field through a Manual QA/Software Tester training, *fingers crossed*. My son is now 4 and another one on the way and I feel all that weight of not being active enough for my child and then falling behind in the classroom especially when you see and almost feel all those gaps in the system. -God Bless!

True, it’s totally ridiculous. While teaching in a big city ghetto type high school I’ve been in wrestling matches with very large older teenagers including recent graduates of the school who were 18 years old and invaded my home room to beat up a 15 year old, and had to flip a very large 220 pound young adult student at Job Corps then put him in a choke hold to calm him down. I am an ex-navy shore patrolman and professional canoe tripping guide up in Canada who regularly carried 100 pound loads and weighed about 160 pounds at 5’10” while teaching when I was in my late twenties through early thirties. I’ve also been assaulted by somewhat smaller sixteen year olds on multiple occasions and was forced to inflict severe beatings on at least two of them, and place another who punched me in an altercation in the school cafeteria in a choke hold while standing to fend him off. Then perhaps most absurd a wood shop teacher and myself had to run down to his shop class to snatch 2X4s to go barricade a mob of class cutting students into the cafeteria while waiting for police to show up. Someone got shot outside of an evening basketball game at the gymnasium but I didn’t see that. One fourth of the students at this large building with an enrollment of 1,500 were on probation. On any given day one-third of the kids were out absent. Other ridiculous incidents were car crashes on the street behind the building caused by truants who were cutting class to race their cars! Police summoned to arrest kids who’d assaulted teachers were routinely driven home and let go by the police after being cuffed and removed from the building to make it look good for the spectators. Other teachers were slapped around, turned upside down and dropped on their heads, or actually beaten bloody by gangs of kids lurking in the stairwell. Most of the kids failed to reach the upper grades. There was no appreciation whatever that 9th graders with 3rd grade reading levels had virtually no chance of graduating and perhaps needed diversion into manual arts with private GED tutoring. Everyone just goes through the motions like so many zombies and when I used the term zombies I’m referring to the staff members.

Why I hate public school as a person who went to public school. It’s pretty much free and just babysitting. The children suffer because of other peoples children. I suffer tell this day academically because other children pretty much coming to class to fight with the teacher and other students. Hopefully my children well never have to go to public school. If I send my children I want them in a school were the if a child is acting out they can just be put to the side to save the other children.

I marvel at all the people who send their kids to Lutheran parochial schools here in Cleveland because Lutherans don’t strike me as being particularly “religious”, since they’re much like Episcopalians, and Episcopalians typically don’t even have parochial schools, but are more involved with boarding schools for rich people, except in Hawaii and down south where they’re escaping from school integration orders. Yet, it is obvious that this is because of the relative crappiness of the public schools, even in the suburbs. Growing up in my suburb back in the ‘sixties and early ‘seventies we had a sizable percentage of “dead-beats” who majored in metal shop or wood shop and that just wasn’t fancy enough for some people so they sent their kids to Jesuit prep school or what have you. When I taught in the ‘eighties after getting out of the submarine service I marveled at the number of virtually feral children at the big city high school where I taught after getting disgusted with the nuns at the parochial school where I taught. But better gang bangers than nuns and a living wage instead of peanuts was how I thought then. But the fact is some kids are simply too feral to be given academic training, but the larger society has gotten into the habit of faking everything by shutting down orphanages, state mental hospitals, and juvenile prisons. Instead we waste all of our tax money on the military so that the American empire can dominate the entire world, and not just one third of it, like the British Empire! At least the British knew how to run schools. If you couldn’t pass the form exams, which were independently scored, then you were out! Good riddance dullards! Go get a job in a coal mine or else the merchant navy. Pax Brittanica and long live the king.

Why did you chose private school? Some larger school districts do buy curriculum and give a curriculum map for how to implement that curriculum. I chose to substitute teach when my older kids were young and if I taught the same grade two different classrooms in the district back to back days I was able to pick right up. Now it wasn’t perfect and funding was an major issue. The reason I chose to substitute instead of teaching myself was to be able to let it go at the end of the day. We moved to Texas so I stopped substituting. The pay was horrible at that time. Now they have restructured the substitute pay scale and I would consider it again but I homeschool my second grader so it’s not possible.

That's why I decided to be a SAHM once I had a kid. I was working part time at the time (it's the nature of the work) and if I went back ALL my money would go to childcare. If only half my income went to childcare then maybe it would be worth it. Plus my husband works 15+ hours a day. Now that we decided to homeschool, even more reason to stay home. I never ever planned on going back to work even when we were planning to send her to Christian school.

Wasn’t a teacher. But a special Ed student who experienced pretty much abuse, & exclusion, The last straw, was u can wear flip flops, by the way you be with ur peers just for music & art, & gym . Basically being going to daycare but public school middle school version. That’s why I ll not put my own feature kids in Public school, I don’t trust the supersadtent ll make sure the aides ll not be abusive , or not take them to classes or Miss field trips,. Or possibly a school nurse, not tell them their meds run out . & I missed my last year of book fair with my 5th grade class. My last aide. Basically used that against me. To abuse her power. There’s been news clips about that. The case in VA with theses kids were nonverbal. It reminded me of what I went through. I started bawling 😭 my eyes when I watched it. Almost 4 years ago. The aide in that news clip reminded me how I was treated. I couldn’t sleep for three months. It started bringing my memories of public school. & yes threantrd . & first full blown panic attack at 9/1/2 years old. & then 10/1/2 years old. My first migraine early unset. My boyfriend “s uncle he looked at mom . To be honest I d” take her out. Took about a year half to get it done. Cause of what I went through I have Complex PTSD, anxiety disorder, I still have Trust issues. Half the time I didn’t do anything wrong I was thrown out or told u can come back u ll be treated as special needs that’s was worse at a teen retreat, about 10 years ago. & homeschooling teen group. Cause of a unknown bipolar breakdown. No second chance. As I have told my boyfriend it’s them I don’t trust. I explained to him. They re the ones have to apologize not me. Cause what they did to me at 17. Years old. They basically lost their first love. I saw it . At 16/1/2 years old. They were beginning not to trust me not make my own judgment. To be honest I I don’t think I ll able to trust them again. They broke my trust. They re the ones they ll have to admit they were in the wrong. It’s my boyfriend “s cousins father sister I can trust still his mother she finally made peace. & accepted That Her son & I were meant to be. I do prey she apologizes. To me. No he & I ll not kick anyone out. Unless they re doing stuff against federal law & Bibcally . Christians most of the time don’t know how to handle special needs kids teens young adults older adults or just don’t want to handle them. Yes my boy”s aunt & uncle unfortunately became very cliquish.
