What a great interview . I have my eye set on Italy as a potential retirement destination. Live in Northern California now so Sandi's experience having lived in Vancouver resonates with me. Also the fact that she made the move as a single person and has found friends and community there is encouraging (Single guy here) . Frequent visitor to Italy (going to LeMarche in Sept) and enjoying getting to know the various parts of this amazing country .

My wife and I lived in Verona in the early 60’s for 3 years when our dad’s were stationed there in the early 60’s. We have returned over the years and always make it a point to visit Verona and the surrounding area. Like Sandi we always experience the feeling like we are too are coming home. That we too belong are meant to be here and so enjoy the lifestyle and happiness.

While I love to hear success stories of folks who have made moves similar to these, I would appreciate getting real information about what it takes to file paperwork and to know if you even qualify for moving. So many countries have entrance requirements and most folks can't just up and move. There is a HUGE financial cost involved and not everyone is a former pharmacist that has a big 401K to draw from. Many European countries have a point/immigration scheme that you must meet or you don't even get your foot in the door. I just wish videos like this were a bit more informative of that part of the relocation process. That said, I am glad she was able to achieve her goal; buona fortuna!!!

From Canada to Italy? It's like moving from a cool spring day to a hot oven summer. Italy might simply be too hot for you. It is too hot for me. I get ill in such temperatures in the summer. So I would have to stay indoors for a few months. Take this into account, when moving to another country: does the climate fit me? Also the older you get, the more temperate a climate might suit you.

If I may, this is not 1850, just as people have means if they wish to keep warm in cold climate countries, people have means to keep cool if they wish in hotter summer countries. Chissà perché ci sono 6 milioni di italiani fuori dall' Italia? Che bella la favoletta del Bel Paese! Non esiste da decenni il Bel Paese. Forse non è mai esistito a pensarci bene.

Living your retirement years in a country that is not yours, completely deprived of your roots, immersed in a different culture, in relationship with a language whose nuances you will never understand and far from your loved ones and friends of all life, is absolutely one of the most infinitely sad things a man can do. I pity those who make this unfortunate choice.

Your pitiful response may be considered arrogant by some. I was about to explain why and it is likely that to write the comment you did is indicative of an organism that is not capable of reflection, learning nor understanding logic.

You can pity them if you want but her and thousands of others are living their life! I know I am in Portugal and thousands have done the same. You learn the language, make new friends, have new adventures!

@@sarah-wl1py I agree. I have lived in Spain,Italy and China and am heading to try a mountain city in Mexico. I have met fabulous friends, had wonderful adventures and kept my sense of curiosity. I am almost 60 years of age and am feeling as thrilled and excited by life as ever.

@@dlwilliamson5644I’m considering moving to another country as well but some practical things are giving me doubt. For instance in some countries you have to have an income or a job before moving there. How do you go about it? Do you first rent, live of your savings until you find a job? And how about insurance, it is mandatory.

@@Cakewalkingbaby I went first as an English teacher (although my certificate is Chemistry). This is a low income job at first.. The company that hires you will offer low rent apartments that are not high end OR you can get to your country a little early and rent AirBnB just to get to know the area. Another side hustle that worked for me was not only teaching high school kids also teaching exercise classes for cash. I hope this helps. It is a wonderful (not perfect) adventure wherein you will meet like minded adventurers who will be friends for decades.

LOL she is the financial planner… she wants to do it that’s it. Its very difficult for the average expat from US. She speaks fluent Italian. Shes loaded. Don’t think anyone can do this . Culture shock. People on the internet aren’t always telling the exact truth.
