Hello, I'm 5'8 145lbs and really wanting n debating on buy a 401 Vitpilen. Are they quick off the line at a red light? I basically only 5 miles one way to work and zip around Downtown Los Angeles. Previous bikes were Drz400 Suoermoto and Honda Grom. What do you think?

I had the 401 and loved it for my first motorcycle... If I could have kept it and had 2, I would have... But I sold it and immediately got its bigger brother in the Vitpilen 701. It's awesome!

Getting a first bike would you recommend going for the vitpilen 401 or 701 ?

@@sudharshantheaver9094 They don't make the 701'a anymore but if you can find one and are responsible enough with the throttle it's a great first bike! The 401 is a perfect first bike

I think the best part was it came with no “baggage”. Just fun.

@@ForeverARide It's my first and I'm also 5'7" and struggling with the seat height lol. It's a bit discouraging to learn on it and may take me longer than I should to get comfortable but it's fun!

Haha, I just want to try them all. Enjoy the SVART. There’s certainly a charm to the single.

The svartpilen has a better riding position and either one can be lowered to a more comfortable height. The single cylinder vibration is only uncomfortable above about 7000 for extended periods.

@@driftless4014 Hey man ! Yes absolutely ! Riding mine for a month now and truly loving every moment ! For the comfort side it more the extensive use of the gearbox needed in city riding . The single is not very "flexible" a twin or a 4 cylinders are much more compliant . That being said not ready it to trade it yet !

Too large or too small? I’m considering a purchase but I’m a taller rider

@@damiensantillan6125 with my height, it's a bit too tall for me. I can only stand flat on one foot because of the height of the seat, so that probably wouldn't be an issue for you. The other thing is the super aggressive position you take while riding, which makes the bike uncomfortable for long rides.

I haven't had the luxury of riding an inline 4, I bet it's smooth as silk but I imagine the trade off is lots of "character" with the 1 pot. Enjoy :)

@@ForeverARide by character you mean it stalls and locks up in traffic because it's got to much counterbalance and is running super lean, yeah it's got plenty of that

@@duncle1253 None of the stall issues. Actually, it's hard to think of any issues that wouldn't make me buy it again in a heartbeat. But I'll tell you all the issues I can think of. It's a single cylinder so it has a rumble to it. Mix that with the knobbier tires and you get even more rumble. But it LOOKS like a bike that should rumble. And it still rides pretty smooth. The gas tank size gets old pretty fast. My work commute is about an hour both ways ( through mountains ) and I top it off every day to stay out of trouble. I've had a close call. But in my truck that drive is $25 ( everyday ) and on the Svartpilen it's $6 bucks! And more fun. The bike is so light it almost feels like I can pick it up. Which is nice when you have to maneuver it in your garage. It's super easy to walk it around and I can pick up the back to swing it around. But when you're on a throughway with tractor trailers, you get blown around pretty good. Despite what people have said, this bike isn't brimming with power. It delivers what you think 370 cc's would deliver. That's a small enough engine that your weight ( I'm 200 lb ) feels like it matters. With my girl on it with me, I avoid highways. It doesn't really want to go 75 mph with 2 people on it ( just my experience ). I should add that I haven't switched the pipe or eliminated the catalytic converter er anything. It's stock. I'm good with the power it's got... Don't buy this bike for power... But for "around town" and short drives, and tight areas, this bike feels like you have crazy advantage. It's really narrow and maneuverable. And you just f**king look cool... Put some handle end mirrors on it and this bike looks like it's from another time. Either 30 years ago or 30 years in the future... one of 'em. Dude, when I walk by this bike in my garage, I almost smile at it ( every time ). It's so cool just sitting there waiting for me. I see why people get fanatical about the Svartpilen 401.

@@thatsoundsaboutright7483 I would start with a smaller displacement. You want the bike to be approachable so you actually want to get back on after a scare. But it’s up to you, after you pass the test.

@@ForeverARide gotcha. I wanted a bike that I can grow I to without being overpowered. Do you think after 4000 miles later and after being used to it, the 401 will still bring me joy or will I be eyeing a powerful bike. Also thanks for responding. You help alot if us noobs out

Joep, thanks for the support. 1 hour trips seemed to be the limit for me. Just makes you get off the bike and explore a little bit. If I had twisties I could stay on all day.

@@ForeverARide Thanks! I'm i thinking about getting one. I'm from the Netherlands so A2 wise it's perfect. Also the longest trip I'll take will be max 1 hour/1.5 hours because our country is quite small as you might now :p I think it'll be perfect for me then!

In frequent one hour trips are ok. I ride mine 35 minutes one way to work daily. That's about my limit. I'm kind-of old though!
