Old-timer Tesla owner here - bought my Model S P85+ back in 2013, got 155,000+ kms on it, and I love it so much. This is a first gen car, so old it doesn't even have parking sensors, which means it doesn't have even the ancient original AP 1.0, manual drive only, and I *still* love it more than any other car I've ever been in. I'd like to get the Plaid, but there's no rush, and I'm on the waiting list for a Cybertruck. Even after 9 years, I'm still on the original equipment of everything except tires. I'm getting my headlights replaced this weekend - one of them is unreliable, so best to change them both. Not bad for 9 years. Brakes are still original, battery is original etc. I've lost about 10% of my range since I started, and that's totally managable. There's no squeaks or rattles, the car sounds and feels tight like brand new. I can't say enough about it. Welcome to the Tesla family :)

Congratz on the Model 3! Just some tips for you with the car: - Always (always!) pre-condition the battery for fast charging by entering the charger in navigation, cold battery results in a very slow charge. - At Supercharger's leave a gap between you and other cars as typically stalls 'A' and 'B' will share power and result in a slower charge for both of you. (1A and 1B may share for example, apparently this isn't an issue with the new 250kW chargers though) - When on motorways, be especially aware that right now we run ancient 2019 Autopilot and it has a hard time detecting trucks as you pass them. If you go from say lane 3 to 2 but a truck is in lane 1, the car may freak out and think the truck is in your lane for a moment. (Fixed with Tesla Vision and FSD Beta, whenever we get those!) - In the winter, just be aware that the car is 'mainly rear wheel drive', it'll only use the rear motor unless you're flying into a corner or you're flooring it. The car's back-end may step out, once traction control triggers, the car will enter a 50/50 split mode where it uses the front and rear motor, after 2 minutes it'll slowly start offsetting towards the rear again to save power. I guess off the top of my head that's all I've got right now. Hope you enjoy the car. I got mine in November 2019 and its been a joy, never gets old. :)

@@jonpetter8921 The Polestar is a really good car, but doesn't match up the Model 3 when it comes to software. The interior is nice, but claustrophobic compared to the openness and simplicity that offers Tesla, including visibility. The same can be said about the i4. Mercedes (or should I say Geely) really messed up the handling and power distribution on the EQS and I doubt it will be fixed on the EQE. The luxurious interior is nice though, if it wasn't for the already dated infotainment and the awful assembly quality (don't press any surface on the dashboard of a recent Mercedes).

@@barrymcadam I've owned a few cars with 'driver assist' software. VW w/Traffic Jam assist, Volvo with Pilot Assist, Mercedes with their LKA and Active Cruise, and now my Tesla with FSD Beta (US car). The difference between Tesla 'regular' AP and the others can be significant, but they do similar things in most instances. I tried an ID4 when looking at getting an EV last year and although I loved the exterior look of the car and the great space, inside the interior and especially the infotainment really let it down for me (this was October 2021). I also tried the ID4 GTX. It wasnt bad. The look and feel was really neat. But you cannot get any leather interior. And it kinda feels cheap for 40k++. The drive assistant sucks.... And parking with the car is also not really good. There is something with the wheels I think what makes it weird. I testdrove the EQC the car is much more heavy but 10 times better to drive..... They are not really there yet VW. But if you want something else than a Tesla, get an Mercedes. But for me it was the money and the range and size what matters. @@briangriffiths114 In the US there are not enough Tesla Authorized Service Centers. Tesla will tow it to the nearest one. This could be a long way from where the owner lives. Mike Davenport AKA Chevy Dude I believe his got towed to somewhere in Ohio from like Northern Kentucky. Also whether this is good or bad you get text message updates on the repairs. Talking to someone directly I never heard of it. Ok to really answer this Tesla has had issues in the past with door latches not working and windows not tightly sealed coming loose on the highway. So Tesla would send a Service Van yes an ICE vehicle. To the Tesla owners place of service. Not all dealerships operate thier own collision body shops. GM for the most part has the most dealerships with in Body shops. The thing with other manufactures you can take your collision repair to an independent body shop. Tesla owners are really are under Tesla control for service. If you call Tesla Parts and you ask them if they have this part and what it cost. The first question they will ask you is what do you need it for. I haven't seen videos in Europe for how service is done over there. I do remember the guy that made a video and destroyed his own Tesla in Norway or Sweden because the battery replacement more the the cars worth.

I on the other hand moved to Hyundai Ioniq5, which was just better than TM3/Y, for following reasons: - screen behind the wheel with speedometer and other controls - HUD - V2L (to power electric grill from the car, while camping) - ventilated seats, adjustable headrest - better suspension - better sound isolation But I was also considering ID.5. VW improved their software by a lot, and plug&charge is now available (also in HI5, btw.)

Tesla only lets other cars use the network if there are chargers available and not being used. The people running Tesla know what they are doing . IMO it was a brilliant move. It's basically free money with little or no inconvenience to Tesla owners.

I have an ID3 for a year now and enjoy the vehicle. It’s funny but if you jump into an id3 from an ice vehicle it feels like a spaceship. Even the software is streaks ahead. It’s not a Tesla by any means but it has some pretty good features like dynamic cruise control. I even like the haptic buttons on the steering wheel after I got used to them. I don’t think vw are doing badly it’s just they are trying to keep the price down. Which may be the wrong tactic with evs. Especially with Tesla around who are just trying to build the best car.

Lucky boy, my dream car too. The only part of the Tesla driving experience that I don’t like is the phantom braking; in this respect I find the ACC in my eGolf so much more relaxing than autopilot which sometimes feels like riding a nervous horse. Have they sorted this out in your model?

It does phantom brake more than the ID.3 overall, but it does it less in other ways - like it doesn't react if it sees a speed limit sign for a different road, unlike the ID.3! Although there are things that the ID.3 does better, the Tesla is overall a better self drive experience for sure

I am picky and honestly I keep finding things about each current crop of EVs out there which annoy me (the software in the VW cars being one of them). The Tesla Model 3 hits all the boxes for me. Honestly, there is nothing I dislike about it (except maybe that I would prefer it as a hatchback). I would already have purchased one if only Tesla would be selling cars in Malta.

Hi, your EV journey is typical of many, and mine. Most of us have some (hidden) brand loyalty - for me it was BMW, and I bought a BMW i3 as my first venture into an EV in 2019. Like you, I like the car, actually I love it, and it has convinced me that the whole EV experience is one to embrace with no fear. However, once you have owned an EV, you understand that the experience is different from an ICE car, and this is where Tesla is king. Legacy auto has just so much catching up to do. Unfortunately the Model 3 does not fit my lifestyle - I need a hatch back. My plan is to keep my BMW i3 for now and (hopefully) switch out to the smaller Tesla when they design and build it - perhaps 3 to 4 years time.

I think you're being kind. As you say, as a car the ID.3 is a good one. It drives nicely with more than adequate performance [unlike ID.4s 😋]. But the software is honestly poor in many ways [and for all ID series vehicles] and that isn't good enough. Out of 10 I'd give the Navigation software about 5. The Voice Command interface I'd give 1/10 for actually recognising what I said once, a few months back when I worked up the enthusiasm to try it out just one more time [I have a fair Home Counties accent, so nothing difficult there]. The Lane Keeping Assist in the Driver Assist pack is both annoying and dangerous, so I'd give that part 2/10 and the whole Driver Assist about 6/10 [Lane Keeping dragging my scoring down]. The Adaptive Cruise Control is pretty good, and I'd give that a 7/10. The Infotainment is adequate and 5/10. Vehicle Status is good at 8/10. The other foibles like constantly notifying me that there are no Internet Radio stations about, I can put up with without getting annoyed. And those rare OTAs haven't really improved things much more than 10%. I still get Petrol Station coming up on planned route [POIs] as if I should care. And although Destination/Rapid Chargers are nicely identified everywhere, the software still directed me to an Audi dealership that was closed and the barrier was up, so no charging there. I still like the car a lo, but it could be sooooo much better. My software programming buddy from Netherlands came on holiday with me, and after experiencing the ID.3 [which he liked] he's getting a Tesla Model 3 SR+. Can't blame him. 😄

I do agree, it sucks compared to expectations, but I think if you're comparing it to the software of an average combustion engine car, it is on par with those now. The problem is that electric cars need to be better than that

At the time the m3 SR+ was costing around 50K in Ireland, today the LR is costing 50k. I got the ID.3 Tour 5 82 Kwh for 41,500 K 1.5 years ago. Id.3 82 Kwh Positives in my opinion Rage is good, driven 300 Kms still had 20% left driving motorway speeds 120 Km/hr Recently off the motorway getting 200 Kms per 40% charge. Car looks better than m3 outside Good to drive I like the travel assist. Negatives. Interior looks cheap with plastics you'd see in the Caddy Van. No speakers in the rear doors in the Tour 5 costing 41.5 K Euro's There's annoying rattles especially the doors with the stereo cranked up. Infotainment, sluggish and ergonomics poor. God be with the days you had dedicated buttons for the likes of the radio with buttons for preset stations, easy, simple no menus. I think all this tech in cars especially touch screens are very distracting especially when you have to take your eye off the road for longer than you should. I'm not sure I could tolerate another car who depends so heavily on the touch screen, I want more buttons for basic things like Climate control and radio. People are just addicted to screens and flicking though stuff endlessly, and this is not good in cars that can travel at high speeds and kill people.
