I'm a big fan of the SACD format. I do hope that with the revival of the CD labels take advantage of the opportunity to "relaunch" the SACD format as a serious audiophile product in the same way several of the boutique labels did with the vinyl resurgence. Of course the quality of the original recording and mastering are links in the chain and when all the stars align SACDs can sound incredible. I keep adding to my collection and seeking out more obscure artists on very small labels can be very rewarding- I'm thinking particularly of CHESKY and STOCKFISCH where the sound quality is exceptional. It would be good to see you seek out these more obscure discs for review and turn on more folks to these excellent artists and their exceptional recorded works- they need all the support they can get.

Here we go... Is the SACD track (DSD) taken directly from the master tape or is it transformed from PCM? Very few record directly to DSD. A lot of SACD players convert DSD to PCM. Just saying.

Depends on your setup and I didn't catch yours. My vinyl setup is pretty nice and I just replaced my turntable. Unfortunately my Denon player has an SACD stuck in it and the drawer won't open. My blueray player plays SACD's but they sound like crap. It's really hard to find good SACD players right now for reasonable cost.

My Steely Dan’s were delivered yesterday. I still haven’t found the time to listen to them yet. Glad to hear they sound good.

I love Vinyl and I love SACD. The new Pink Floyd Animals on SACD is mind blowing. Diana Krall Live in Paris is majorly improved on the SACD VS the Vinyl Record. I love them.

As SACD has anticipated quality of compact disc as well as the quality of the recording ability, it is known for its premier standard. It is also for a lifetime in terms of quality and portability...its an SACD, it does not miss any thread when playing. Very good..

Hey Steve, living across the straight in Nanaimo I couldn't agree more. I try to order a bunch from the states whenever I know I'm heading to Seattle and have them waiting for me across the border. I'm trying to stick to SACD for new purchases as much as possible over expensive vinyl. but there is still something about older jazz like Miles Davis on vinyl.

I own and enjoy a bunch of SACDs mainly for the surround format. If the latest trend toward "immersive audio" does eventually take serious root, my concern would be whether the SACD standard can support more than 5.1 channels. I have no idea, but if not then I say let's be done with it and stick to Blu-rays. I don't think the "hybrid" aspect of SACD is nearly as important as it once was.

We ordered the “Northeast Corridor” and loved it, a bargain on vinyl. Didn’t care for the packaging with the 2 LP in one sleeve. To us, a no-no. Couldn’t pull the trigger on “The Nightfy Live.” Just couldn’t justify the expense 9f just live recordings of just that one studio album. Great video and thanks for sharing!-Chris & Beth🎧

Hey Steve, very good video and timely. I have just restarted my vinyl journey after a big move from a full blown music cave to a smaller apartment and finally got my records out of storage and set up. I only have a couple of sacd's (Dark Side and a Diana Krall) but I really want to start buying more. I also am from the Lower Mainland and trying to find mofi vinyl and sacds at a reasonable cost.. Any suggestions

Mobile Fidelity doesn't always make great SACDs. They put out a Johnny Cash SACD in 2020 which used the mono downmix of a stereo recording. They claimed the stereo master couldn't be found, which is complete hogwash. So now I have a SACD which is purely mono which defeats the entire purpose of SACD.

I get it. Most of my SACD MoFi’s hang with the vinyl releases. Most…. And I save money. Not much as a collectible but you save money and quality is the same or close in MOST scenarios. Below is my gear. Yamaha S-1000 SACD player Rega P6 with an Apheta3 cart Pro-Ject S2 tube phono stage Hegel Rost integrated amp CDs are impressive on this config too

I've been acquiring certain SACD's too and I don't yet have an SACD player.

SACD`s and japanese audiophile CD`s have a strict quality control. New vinyl, even audiophile releases don`t see any quality control... you get a warped disc, off-centered disc, scratched disc, bad digital remaster etc. And that for a lot of money!! I can always buy a second-hand vinyl release for cheap.

How much does a good SACD player cost and can you listen to traditional CD on them?

SACD is overpriced. $100 for Pink Floyd album?

CD is superior to vinyl in every possible way
