IMO it would make more sense if you put 5 stars in price for A7ii; a star in photo, a star for video, and maybe two stars for autofocus for A7Rii. It seems like A7Rii is better in the photo and video qualities, but you just find it an overkill.

haha. right. but that's my point, not spend money on what you don't need. use the extra to get a better lens, probably is a better investment. for some people...

I just picked up my A7R2 last night here in LA with a SONY 50mm 1.8 & a SONY Flash accessory and memory card & to top it off it has a shutter count of only 3,000 & I was able to buy it for $1000. I’ve been shooting car photography with the A72 for over a year now & love it.

I found a used a7rii for $800, and an a7ii with kit lens for 750. Buying this just for casual images and to have a camera. The price of that lens alone is only $100 used. So, I'd be spending $150 for 4k video, faster auto-focus, higher MP count, and better low-light most of which I honestly don't care much about (maybe a bit of that low-light performance). Felt like a7ii is enough, but, damn, it was a hard decision considering all these factors.

@@jochemvangalen9464 well that's the problem. I live in Malaysia(South East Asia Country). One more thing I forgot to mention is... The LCD was completely busted. I had to pay another 100$(RM400) for a new 3rd party LCD. Yeah it wasn't the A7Rii one, it was the A7Riii which had a touch screen. Yay I guess....

I am writing from the future (2021). You will sell your Sony A7II for $600 and pick up a lightly used A7RII for $900. You are smart money and will have invested in good lenses already. You are ahead of the game.

I think the recent firmware update has already improved the AF on A7II, I don't think it will increase a lot more than that in the future, just because the limitation of the processor in the A7II

Thanks dude, you just convinced me to buy the A7ii instead of the A7Rii. Saved me about $500 ! I would still love the more megapixels and 4k capture from the A7Rii. Maybe one day!

I regret getting the A7ii because I am a hybrid shooter and the video quality on the a7ii is not very good, I'm actually quite disappointed by it.

This is a very subjective review. The A7 II definitely does not have better photo and video quality, quite the opposite in fact. The only thing it has going for it is its price.

Yes, the Price is a big thing. and depends on what you need it for? a lot of people may find the A7II is well enough for them.

@@dannyvazquez325 I did explain that before I show the points, // the point is given based on my needs, for me the 24MP is really good enough for me, and the file size is also smaller. so I give the point to A7II. I'm not saying that the A7R2 is not worth, just I find the A7M2 is well enough for me to use.

It actually does have a better sensor. The lower megapixel count allows for much denser pixels and larger more detailed pixels which shows a better quality in times like low light and dim light.

Thank you so much for this comparison! I subscribed and liked the video. I purchased the A7ii at Best Buy for $999 USD, 18 month payment plan, zero interest. Hopefully I can make some money using this camera for video content.

i know i'm late, but how does just the raw amount of data per photo put the A7R over the edge for photo quality? You even said that if you need to crop it still looks great on the A7r, Plus low light is a huge difference for alot of photographers. I don't understand this logic. maybe your needs are way different from mine

for me it's A7RII, a lot more megapixels means i can use my apsc lenses on it, then 4k video shooting is a must as well :> it's not a huge price difference between these two in 2019, about 500 dollars

in Canada is still a $1000 difference, A7II $1300 A7RII $2300. in US is about $600-800 difference. "not saying 599 is 500,tho", so is still very depends on what people need it for. if you really needed 4K then, yes, the A7RII is the way to go.

a7rii sometimes can be as cheap as 1500euro here(second hand or refurbished), usually between 1.8k and 2k though, and brand new a7ii is 1147eu today, if you find a good deal you can make it only 500 euro difference, if you dont mind used ones :) also i love the 42mp cuz i can use my crop lenses on it and still get decent images

Are you still using the a7rii? Very tempting at 1399. A7ii is 999. Have you used apsc lenses on your a7rii with good results?

I can get a used a7RII for 1200 or I can go for a7II used for 800$. With 400$ difference which one would you recommend? I shoot low light and portrait but sometime do video mostly B roll. I worry about the alliasing and moire on the a7II. I do sometime heavy crop but don't print big so it was no problem. Thanks

if you do alot photo and heavy on crop then the A7R II is better. also better in low light.

if you are a B-roll shooter then consider the A7RII because you can jump to 120 fps if shoot in 720p giving your better slow mos

It is funny how people selling the a7ii with the kitlens for 1800 or 1900 here in canada (2022)..just makes me giggle on this as those seller always point that it was selling before at 2000 canadian +tax.. 😅

Yes it is. Just depends on what you use it for. The A7 II is already enough for most people in most cases.

@@potownrob I didn’t like how slow the Sony a7rii felt. And I hate the shutter sound on both the 7ii and 7rii. The 1DX was outdated, but not in the same charming way as the d700 (which I sold to try out fujifilm, which I’ll sell to buy a Sony A7ii or 7iii)

@@calebginsberg5224 ok, that makes sense. Sony apparently didn’t put enough processing power in the camera to back up the huge sensor. Looks like they fixed it on the A7RIII but that’s still expensive as all hell. I always mistake the canon 1DX for a Nikon D1, which obviously is a much older camera. I feel for your dilemma. Have you considered trying out Panasonic?

U did this rly wrong... A7r2 better quality in photos... and u give to A7m2 ... video quality also better...4k is better... larger sizes but better. Super35 in r2 is awesome :/
