Please take every word in the video to heart, steel cased ammo is the way to go for all personal defense situations also FMJ works just as well as ballistic tipped ammo. If you use anything but steel cased ammo than you're an idiot, plain and simple!

You rifle is your primary I agree but I would keep a 12ga pump with buckshot and a ar15 so in close range with buckshot in a home defense but if I got a guy about 70 yards away I will use my ar for a little better range but close again 12ga with buckshot but 45acp is a kickass round

Agree 75% with this statement. 25% still goes to the good ol pistola. As a tool that has tamed the west, it has shined in close quarters combat and suprise attacks. It can be hidden from view and kept concealed giving the false impression of weakness. And ultimately using suprise as leverage if need be. Although the rifle is obviously optimal balistically... The pistol has its own inherent value.

Christopher Myers This 100%! I feel a sort of pity for these ppl who seem to think they'll be in a WWI style trench stalemate shooting thousands of rifle rounds before ultimately defeating the enemy single handedly. You stockpile ammo because you dont know what's coming, so why stockpile only rifle rounds as if you know what your situation will be when and if it comes? Also, good luck moving those huge tupperware containers if you ever have to gtfo of your home quickly.

LOL, knocking 9mm.... when obtaining my first handgun years ago (glock 19gen3), I learned from an old timer who owned a corner pawn shop 2 things about my inquiry as to what caliber gun my first one should be. First and foremost, purchase a gun that you can handle the recoil (better shot placement), and second which was the most sage advice I had heard yet, that there was no real comparism between 9mm and .45 caliber stopping power due to the technological advances of hollow points, etc over the last 15 years or so. Once upon a time the idea that the bigger the bullet the better was common knowledge.. not anymore. I have 3 handguns, and 2 rifles all chambered in 9mm so that I was able to stockpile not only practice ammo a few years ago, but at least 2000 rounds recently of defensive ammo. Figured running one caliber was wiser than spending money I didn't have on a bunch of different calibers. My final point I would say regarding 9mm, is that if your go-to rifle along the line of defending yourself has a catastrophic malfunction, you're going to be glad you've got anything as a backup to save your life whether it's 9mm or .22, so I'd reconsider calling 9mm so lame if it's all that's defending your kiester.

I think it all depends on situation. I prefer handguns with defense rounds for home defense. The velocity of a 223 round or 556 is too much for close quarters like my own home. The risk of hitting something else besides my target is far too great. In terms of shit hitting the fan like a Ukraine invasion, yes rifle is ideal. Even then you have to be light on your feet and be able to be mobile. Having a ton of 223 or 556 isn’t ideal to be lugging around. And carrying it in a vehicle would not be an option because roads will be closed and fuel will be limited. This is my opinion.

Because steel is more rigid than brass the casing doesn't expand as much in a steel cased round as it does in a brass one, which can cause significant more barrel and chamber fouling due to a less tighter seal. This is why people will more often notice stuck cases if you run steel cased ammo through something like an AR-15, which was much tighter tolerances than an AK-style rifle that could eat it all day. Additionally - if you switch between the two, a brass case can expand at a greater rate and get stuck even easier. So if you run steel through an AR - you need to keep this in mind and keep it clean.
@jimmynix5399

I agree with you. Any more than a couple hundred rounds of pistol ammo is a waste of money. In a survival situation I'll always have my Glock 19 on my side, but just as a backup in case my AR jams or I run out of ammo. At today's prices for what you could get 2 cases of pistol ammo for, you can buy an extra AR. I think everyone should have at least 2 ARs. In a survival situation there would be nothing worse than having your AR break and have a bunch of useless ammo laying around. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

If you're having a problem with your extractor, it's your extractor, not the ammo. Russian steel case is MUCH softer steel than anything your gun is made out of. I agree with most of what you're saying but not making an effort to at least throw a small bone to to your handgun because it's not your main weapon is a tad arrogant. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. If you drop your AR on a rock and it cracks your receiver to the point of uselessness, then you'll be sitting there with 10,000 rounds of 223 and no gun. And what if you run into someone you know if shtf? Whereas I basically agree with your thought process, stocking anything depends on your current situation & how you view yourself in defense mode if there's civil strife. Let's face it, if everything goes to hell, there will be a lot of scared & unprepared people who will primarily hunker down in their homes until their supplies run out. Now, how well they ration or utilize those supplies leads to when they leave the safety of their homes & start taking uncalculated risks. The biggest thing about staying in your home & defensively preparing in your weapon's category, is "geography". What do I mean by this? Well, do you live in a neighborhood with someone literally 50' from you or in an apt. complex, with someone on the other side of a wall from you who could chop their way through in a matter of minutes. Do you live in an area with wide open terrain where you have visibility in all directions? All these things need to be considered & planned in stages of CQB, short range, intermediate range, long range & beyond the horizon or what you literally can't see. In other words, if you live in close proximity to many people, that "pussy sidearm" you speak of, comes in very handy due to it's mobility & short range lethality. By illustration, if you live in an apt. complex, sandbags, a couple shotguns & as many handguns should help you persevere short term consequences. Your best ally would be to make as many friends as you could for a co-op to survive & establish a chain of command which puts the most competent in charge of dire circumstances. Under this particular scenario, you can't possibly have too much short or intermediate range ammo. Your necessity of long range ammo loses it's effectiveness due to buildings all around you which mitigate your sight & POA. Your scenario best plays out if you basically live alone or with family in wide open spaces where you could acquire your target from much longer distances & either forewarn them with a warning shot or start stacking up bodies all around if your mental stability really takes a hit. If things were to get really, really bad, rotting & bloated corpses sends a message to would be assailants like no other I can think of. Of course, you may have to answer for this strategy at a later date when society is restored. I'm somewhat like you, handguns aren't my favorite form of defense but I'd never sell them short as just a "backup". I don't own but a handful of them but even at that, they're basically worthless unless an adequate amount of ammo is on hand to complete them. As I said, it's primarily about geography & a higher caliber handgun will breach a door & leave someone on the other side incapacitated or in search of easier prey. Fifty to a hundred sandbags stored close by reinsures their return of fire isn't as effective reaching it's intended target which is YOU. I could go much deeper with my thoughts but summarily, this is my 2 cents & you need to qualify your thoughts just a tad deeper to those who might only own one handgun for protection. I say two ammo cans of that caliber, additional magazines, spare parts & cleaning supplies might get you through a very tough time in close quarters..

Have to disagree. Steel case is great for my Mosin,but I won't run it in my AR. The polymer coating heats up and sticks to the chamber causing extraction and over pressure problems. There are numerous threads pertaining to this issue on various gun forums on the net. In a SHTF scenario spent brass would be more valuable because it is reloadable and spent casings could be traded to reloaders for live ammo.

Any round that can kill is not a "sissy ass round" IMHO. Keep in mind graveyards are full of people who underestimated the 9 mm round. Yes, rifle rounds hit harder, but effectiveness boils down to the quality of the cartridge, quality of the firearm it's being fired from, atmospheric conditions, and how well the person performs under pressure in a combat setting.

In a real world, long term SHTF situation, people will go to centralized "swap meets" where they can trade, sell, and buy supplies. You won't be carrying your long gun over your shoulder to these types of places. The police, military, or local war lord will hold you at gun point and "take" your rifle. Your rifle is mostly good for home defense and perimeter duties at your home, or for convoy security from point A to point B. If you need to go to town/go to market, a concealable pistol is a MUCH better, much more practical weapon. Stop stocking up on junk steel ammo. 1000 rounds of 5.56 M193 is better than 2000 rounds of Tula. I like to stock at least 500 rounds of good defensive 9MM hollow points and 1000 rounds of brass case FMJ.

But if a situation preants itself to where i can get either , AWAY prefferbly and if not Away then get me to a rifle within a coupe 10 to 20 seconds then I'm gonna, conceal, or preferable get cover while either retreating or engaging my rifle. Easiest eay to win a fight, is to 1.not fight at all 2. engage with overwhelming violence of action or 3. make certain that you always have a weapon at the ready or an escape conceal and cover plan inside of ANY situation wether at home or in public.

If the shit hits the fan you will take one long gun, a pistol, and a backpack full of about 20% of that ammo, a first aid kit, and enough food and water for a few days.

It seems as if the only Americans who understand the rifle/hand gun ammunition ratio are veterans. I maintain a ratio of around 100 to 1. All US military bases, consulates and embassy armories inventory small arms munitions at near a 100 to 1 ratio.

Andrew, I'm exactly like you. Let me bring up another point, many people say " why stockpile all that steel cased ammo, it's bad and you can't reload it". Many people aren't realistic when they prep. What are you gonna be doing picking up casings for reloading in major street conflicts? Another thing I like the hard bullets in the tula because this is a world of obstacles, structures, and barriers. If I'm shooting at someone I want to "penetrate and kill". So just thought I would throw that out there. One more thing in my chest pack I carry a tiny bottle of wd-40 just for my chamber. There is a small chance your steel cased ammo, more likely 5.56 than 7.62×39 or 7.62×51, would stick in the chamber. Anyhow thanks for the video.

True you would use your battle rifle much more than pistol ammo. But as someone who also has more than 10k rounds on hand at home. I do realize that it would be very very impossible to bring with me if I had to bail out with no car and go deep into the woods. So you have to be realistic about what you could actually carry with in a bail out situation and how much ammo one actually needs. I more stockpile just in case some burocrat gets the idea to restrict ammo sales to the public.

I prefer to buy American made ammo. And I can hit a 12 inch plate at 100 yards with my 9mm. With enough energy to kill. Is it better in combat than a rifle? Can you carry your rifle or twelve gauge under your shirt all day? Fight to win no matter what you have in your hands.

Something to consider if you owned 9 mm round ps and a mp5 your kill range is 150-300 yards Out of a pistol effective range is 50-100 yards.. The longer the barrel length the longer the distance it will hit being fatal I'm not sure on though atleas you'll have distance.. I'd take a 7.62 over a 5.56 any day of the week....

My only thought is mixing 5.56 and 223. Many of the 223 rifles simply won't shoot 5.56 due to pressure issues. Any and all 5.56 will shoot 223. If you're going to use both and have a 223 make certain it's one that shoots the 5.56. My CZ 223 specifically states that it's designed to shoot 5.56 as well. Lastly check point of impact; some 5.56 shoot the 223 but the point of impact can be off significantly at longer distances.

...and exactly what conflict are you expecting where you need this stockpile of ammo? Seems to be a bit of an alarmest position and I classify this as ammo hoarding making it more difficult for me to buy ammo. On a side note you should throw that steel case ammo out or sell it. Those steel cases will screw up your chamber, especially in an auto like an AR. Beside you should train how you fight, including what ammo you use. When you were in the marines I bet you were practicing with the same ammo you deployed with...I know I did.

Calling people stupid for not having steel case ammo just goes to show how little YOU know. Brass reloads way better than steel for one thing. Not to mention, showing your entire "stockpile" on the internet isn't very bright, not that I would call that a stockpile anyway. More like a starter kit.

I’d go a step further and consider the steel case lacquer coated as the only ammo to consider becouse ammo does age slowly but it does so when u use wolf or Tula to train the brass just gets older and older. So rotate it fire the oldest first. And I agree rifle is king. Don’t bring a 9mm to fight a rifle that’ll punch through walls and trees and cars
@frick-n-frack4191
@frick-n-frack4191 2 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ. An AR15 is arguably the best for home defense because it does NOT punch through everything. A 9MM you would definitely stop what comes through the door but could potentially shoot your neighbors kid sleeping in his bed next door. Especially if you miss your target. Most riffles lower caliber (not 50cal) the bullet tumbles when it hits its target and does NOT punch a hole in everything in its path.

I have to agree. On 9mm or pistol, maybe 3 boxes of Hornady defense or gold dot and 50 American eagle and that is all you need. The thousands of rounds should either be 223 or AK, or even 5.45 Russian if you can find it.

Ahh! Transporting! Absolutely mind blowing! I just assumed the handles were added for decoration. I guess you really do “learn something new every day.” Also, using a rifle as your main battle rifle! Way to think outside the box. I’ve always planned on using an old bowling pin, if shit jumps off. I picked it up at a garage sale because it has “main battle rifle” written on it. It’s written with a red permanent marker, so I figured it was legit.
