In this episode I talk about my experience of learning Arabic at the start of this year how why I ended up quitting. :(
Please also don't take this as me ripping into Arabic, Arabic speakers, or anything of the sort. As I say in the video, it's literally just me explaining the experience I personally had in order to answer people's questions. ❤️

Dear Emma, I was so happy to hear that you wanted to visit Egypt and to learn the Egyptian dialect.. I'm sorry for all the silly comments you got it only shows the jealousy and ignorance of some people.. The Egyptian dialect is the perfect choice because it's the easiest and more widespread.. I also apologize to you for the negative comments you got from some so-called Muslims who failed to give a good impression about Islam. Not all people are understanding and wise.. Islam is not about covering the hair it's more than that, a simple monotheistic religion with beautiful details that encourages us to be kind, do good deeds and have a strong belief in the hereafter.. Please do not be put off and please do keep visiting Egypt in your future plans as there are so many new beautiful cities being built like the New Administrational Capital, New Alamein etc.. Wishing you the best.

رفقا بالناس❤ O my Arabic brothers and sisters... Why do you repulse her from learning the Arabic language? Why do you speak to her about Islamic religion? What agenda do you speak about? Don't be fools..and don't alienate people with some stupid methods..the one who says that when you learn Arabic, you must cover your hair..and the one who tells her to learn from the Qur'an...O people, have culture and awareness...Islam does not need people...but people are Who need it.. Islam is cherishable in itself... and does not need anyone to cherish it... Please, my Arabic brothers and sisters... Be kind to people❤

Hello Emma, as an Arab myself, I feel sorry you have been through such shameful experiences. I guess it's the sad reality of social media & its bully nowadays. It's rampant across social media & across society. The messages you have received reflect a narrow minded mentality & ignorance that's widespread in certain sample in our side, unfortunately, and that's due to some deep reasons. We feel shameful & we struggle like you sometime in a daily basis. The reasons you have mentioned to choose the Egyptian dialect are perfect & very logical. As non Egyptian myself I can say easily it's well known that the Egyptian dialect is the most one that widely understood across the Arab world as they have been the main producer, to a great extent, of cultural influences, whether movies, music, and books. So the messages you received are at least are silly & embarrassing. It's unfortunate that you have quitted learning Arabic as it's one of most rich language ever existed & one of oldest sematic language that is still widely spoken. If you want to communicate with Arabs, I would agree with you that the Egyptian dialect is the choice. However, if you want to dive into our rich heritage, which is of not equally interesting, it's much more exciting, then learn formal Arabic to access Arabic/Islamic knowlage and books. I'm sure visiting Egypt or any other Arab country will spark your interest again & change your respective, as the majority of Arab people are welcoming, warm-hearted, and hospitable. Wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Similarily to Japanese alphabet, Arabic alphabet is interesting because of the artistic side of such alphabets. The alphabet of Latin languages has also its aesthetic dimension but it seems that Arabic alphabet is the most artistic one, way more Artistic than Hebrew alphabet (even if hebrew is, phonetically and historically speaking, the closest language to Arabic)...

In a Facebook group there was or there still is a madman who began to curse those who learned a dialect instead of Fusha, accusing them of being conspirators who wanted to destroy the Arabic language, even though it is a group of dialects and Fusha. Crazy! ... Unfortunately, among Muslims there are many fanatics of this type.

For more accuracy, consistency, and organization, let me get started with an apology for any bad message that you received from the egyptians. You were referring to the revenue of your posting videos to whom that feel bored once they reach the first few minutes of the video, I really need to confirm with you that I am following your channel for a long time; however, I am working almost 11 hours a day, and that's why I may divide your video to minutes to get all Info that you intended to deliver as I really appreciate your efforts in teaching others, especially with your northern accent that I am really so intrigued with it more than you may expect, and I think I have mentioned it to you before. 2nd inquiry was about the people who offended you, and somehow stopped you to keep going on learning Arabic language . I can assure you that, here in Egypt we never force anybody to convert their religion or something like that, you may have got those messages from some people who needed this, but the majority doesn't need you to do the same, Egypt is almost one hundred and five million person as per the last population statistics. Do you think that all of them have the same mentality that you were referring to? It's mentioning your lovely dog (Freya), I wished to see her, with her eyes, was curious about her movements during the video 😅. Also, noticed that you need to get to know some basic phrases in Arabic in order to communicate with people here in Egypt such as Hello! Which means مرحباً، Thank you, شكراً، Morning, صباح الخير, good bye وداعاً . Moving forward, " swearing" if you are insulting me in a different language, it will mean nothing to me, so apparently it is really something hilarious, funny, and sometimes accepted. last but not least, linguistics, I studied linguistics in my college , and I have so damn passion about the Great Britain, hope to visit it one day, so most of times I spend all day listen to BBC news, watching british vlogs even if I am working, i do that once i get the chance. I imitate your northern accent as I love it so much, and it works as I work as a call center oprator for UK, so genuinely I speak almost fluent british accent, and I am so glad to admit that even if some people say you need to let roll "Mo", but I really need to do this. I am not pretending to do so as I really love this from my whole hear, and I won't stop something I love ever. Eventually, please once you plan to come to Egypt, let me know, and I will be with you in this tour, and I really meant it. I am residing nearby the pyramids "Giza", so believe me you will enjoy it, but don't forget to bring Freya with you. I will be waiting for you at any time and I will be so grateful if I really host you with your BF, so please before you plan to come, you can notify me via instagram or you can just upload a video about your coming, and I will know how to reach you. Stay safe. Most regards, Mo.

It's so interesting when you mentioned the cultural and regional differences of each language. I grew up speaking Portuguese and English, and I always laugh when Portuguese speakers say English is a poor language with less sophistication for communication. 'You have no idea of what you're saying. I can attest that. Each language is rich in their unique way,' I reply. English has words and expressions that Portuguese lacks, whereas Portuguese also has its unique variation. About the cluster of sounds: I don't think it's about the written or spoken word, but the meaning we attach to it. And the same word can affect a person in different ways, depending on the tone of your voice. It's incredible. It's similar to how a piece of music affects people in different ways, depending on the arrangement. Ps: Sobremesa in Portuguese translates to 'dessert' in English. And if you need a back massage, I could do it for free. 🤣🤣🤣

Ok first video of this channel and already put off by the amount of navel gazing. While it’s true that people commenting on your videos aren’t in any way privy to what goes on in your personal life, it’s also true that putting content on KZfaq will inevitably put you in a situation to hear things you may not like. There is also the other side of the coin, mind you: you don’t know what goes on in other people’s lives too! So perhaps it may be helpful for you, first and foremost, that you give people the benefit of the doubt. It may be a generational thing but the type of attitude you display is dismaying to see to people of my generation, where people have more of a can-do attitude. Good luck with your channel.

Don't know if you will see this. The Arabic corner on the internet can quickly become a freak show. These people you talked about are really just utterly dumb. They don't even know that learning Arabic is something that people might do without the purpose being religious. You'd have to ignore/block all of them. But it's best to not talk about learning Arabic on the internet, at all. It's a beautiful language but there is no simple way to learn it unless you hire a teacher. Maybe "Arabic Modern Standard" on Pimsleur would be the way to go, if you ever decide to try again. There is another reason why some people might suggest reading the Quran. Because Quran is considered the most beautiful work of poetry in Arabic. Anyone who learns Arabic, reading the Quran even just for the language would be something useful to do. I think most Arabic speaker would suggest to read the Quran sooner or later. Also, too many Arabian men are actually pigs. Sad but true.

Hi, Emma. I had a similar experience chatting with Muslims like 15 years ago. I used to have great time practicing English with them, I laughed a lot with them, believe me! but later they discovered I was an atheist. Everything changed. They started to send me the Koran, to tell me that I was lost and I had to find the truth and all that. They couldn't accept I thought differently. So... I gave up chatting with them. I was sad because I used to have great time, it was fun and I learnt a lot of their culture, but it seems they can't respect other ways of thinking, they want to save us and they don't receive well our refusal. Of course, this is my impression based in that experience. I imagine not all Muslims are the same way. Thanks for the opportunity to learn.
