@@aguy3664 no it was definitely streaming. Let’s plays help you learn more complex games step by step. I mean streaming VODs are basically lets plays, but more entertaining. Edited games were definitely more entertaining, but lets plays were good to learn the game. They were both pretty common for many years.

I can totally understand getting burnt out early by watching a game rather than playing it yourself. I do hate how streaming has killed let's plays though. I watch these videos for the game and for the person playing the game; I couldn't care less about chat's inane babble and their interaction with the streamer.

The REALLY old days of KZfaq would be starting at 2005, but yeah...for me, anything where the creators ACTUALLY FULLY SAY SWEAR WORDS feels really oldschool, since KZfaqrs have to walk on eggshells all the time now. Avoiding demonetization is like you have a really rich but strict maiden aunt, who MIGHT leave you a lot of her money...but every time you say a word she doesn't like, she takes some more money off your potential part of the will--and although she's old, she also has really good hearing and is ALWAYS LISTENING. OOF.

When I was doing my GCSE's (uk end of highschool exams) my parents took most of my technology so I'd have no distractions, except one tiny terrible ipod which I'd exclusively use to binge hundreds of your civ 5 videos at night. Was depressed at the time but have a real nostalgia for them now, so thank you.

Streaming killed the let’s play, but it didn’t replace the let’s play. They’re really not that similar. Talking to chat, taking breaks, possibly switching games or pausing to go off on a tangent, that’s unique to streaming. With lets plays you know you’re getting x minutes of someone playing and talking exclusively about that game and that the next episode would be just as good. Lets plays are also evergreen, just as good today as when they were made while streams are a flash in the pan.

Yeah, early LPs came from the something awful forums. They had audio tracks with. It was all about the game AND the creators. I didn't have to hear about subs, donations, super chats. It became increasingly polished. They were made for and by gamers

So its weird. Ive never really commented on your stuff before but have been a subscriber for years. I had a really difficult time with my mental health (amxiety) last year and 4 year ago. Watching you talk about country balls, memes, games, maps... Everything just relaxed me. Even weird things like you reading out the names of your patrons used to make me laugh and bring comfort. You should look at what T90 for Age of Empires 2 does. He runs player tournaments and spectates them. You could do something similar like that.

Might I recommend Civ 4, specifically the Fall From Heaven 2 mod? It's a dark fantasy total conversion that is less predictable than the pitfalls you've described for 6, especially with the Revolutions component that the More Naval AI modmod (the most up to date build of the base FFH2 mod).

I still prefer Let's plays over streams a lot. Streams are just so slow and I catch myself skipping lots of time on vods. Let's plays are so much more focused without having a chat to interact with.

I quit a lot of my civ games early. When the rest of the game is just a formality then the game just becomes incredibly boring and i quit. If i as the mongols conquered 3 people and now am just teching for bombers to end the game and there's nothing that can stop me then i'll just quit instead.
