I really appreciate your comprehensive reviews! As you said, everyone's hair is different. I noticed a great improvement in my hair using a hooded steamer vs a hooded dryer. I know that porosity exists on a spectrum and perhaps my hair really needs that steam to maximize the benefits of a deep conditioner. It really pays to know your own hair and what it needs.

Thanks for this video!! I have both a q redew, as well as a regular clothes steamer that I use, and a hooded dryer. I can definitely say the hooded dryer is my fav!! Idk why I ever stopped using it for so long. I didn’t like the q redew much at all, because like you said, I felt like my hair wasn’t changing much. With the hooded dryer in combo with homemade hair masks like banana, honey, & oil, my hair is soo much more moisturized and it’s been great!

I can do the hooded dryer for an hour and my low porosity hair will be like WHAT🤣🤣 DC still chilling on top, but the hooded steam is a yes baby we coming in!!! No matter how thick my DC is. I'm getting less breakage finally, hair not feeling like straw after rinsing conditioners out. Seeing my length retention and less shedding. So it goes to show again every head of hair will respond differently.

As far as using the “short” hair steamer, I sat backwards in order to get it to steam my hair 360*degrees. Just Face the back of the hair steamer, highly recommending a hair sweat band but with cotton (so the heat won’t pierce your forehead or ears too much lol). It’s the best position as far as comfort too, because I still get to multitask & be able to rest my arms on the counter. Hope this helps. 😏

I use a steamer (Q-Redew) to kick off my prepoo. I prepoo with oil. I steam first (in sections) in order to open up the cuticles on my low porosity strands. I then apply olive oil (my favorite prepoo oil) to each section immediately after steaming. Next I put on a plastic cap and go on about my day until I actually shampoo my strands 8 to 9 hours later. My hair loves this and is thriving. I never use my steamer to deep condition my hair. I only use it with oils for prepoo.

Here’s a trick that will cost you nothing if you already own the following things: your favorite deep conditioning treatment, a hair clip, a plastic disposable or reusable deep containing or color cap, a stool, a small box (empty but sealed shut to strengthen it, maybe from an old delivery), a small space heater and a chair. Set your stool behind your chair, position the space heater to the height of your head using the small box (horizontally or vertically, depending on your height while sitting) on the stool. Put your deep conditioning treatment in your hair, set the bulk of your hair at the back of your head in a loose, low bun. Not tightly wound, but a very loose and wide bun, so that the heat can really get to all strands in that bun. Put your plastic cap on and sit in the chair with your back (and your low bun) facing directly at the space heater. Because the length is the driest most damaged part of our hair, that’s were we need the most help. Set the space heater on the absolute LOWEST HEAT SETTING so that it’s not too hot but only warming your tresses. And relax. Your head creates lots of heat already, you’re not gonna need a whole lot on top or on the sides when it’s all pulled back. But if you wanted to ensure all strands, on both sides and the top are getting some heat all you have to do is turn your body to position the heat direction to your targeted areas, you can even sit facing the heater with your head down so that the heat is directed at the top of your head. You can’t reposition a professional drying hood in the same way, this is by far more versatile than a traditional professional standing dryer. And with the cap holding the deep conditioner in, it’s steaming itself in there inside that cap when applying liquid with heat applied. No need for a professional steamer either with this DIY rigged system. This costs NOTHING and works just as well as a professional dryer, as there is no special heat coming out of those things but warm air, no different that what a space heater generates. Just please make sure it’s set on LOW. It might be tempting to turn it up, but we all know high heat damages hair. Please refrain from turning the heater up, that low air from the lowest heat setting after only a few minutes accumulates and warms up the hair inside your cap just perfectly. At the end, turn it on fan only , no heat, and sit for a few more minutes. That helps cool your hair down and locks in that moisture from the deep conditioning treatment, really helping you achieve the greatest benefits. I’ve been doing this for years to not only deep condition for the greatest benefits but to seal in my color when I dye it as well for maximum color pay off. Also use it when I do an Olaplex treatment. I really see and feel the benefits of that more than I do without applying heat. Good luck ladies! ♥️
