I'm from Pakistan and I want to learn Sanskrit. I speak Sindhi as first language which is heavily influenced by Sanskrit.

When I started to study Sanskrit at the age of 60, I thought that it would just be a grand intellectual indulgence. I've always been interested in languages and I thought that Sanskrit would be a great hobby to entertain me in my old age. I didn't think that it would bring practical, medical and spiritual benefits, too. As soon as I started to read the Bhagavad Gita, I found that it resonated deeply with my respect for life and made more sense than anything which I had read before. I also found that the peace and serenity, which it brought were of great practical value in helping me to keep my fibromyalgia under control. So, it is just wonderful to hear your words about taking up Sanskrit from such a young age and how it brings you peace and joy. The philosophy expounded in Sanskrit literature fits together so perfectly.

We Indians can count on Europeans like you more than ourselves to keep our own culture alive. The language is dying a slow painful death back home because if we try and make it mandatory, pseudo-secularists will throw a hissy fit. Nobody realizes how important this language is. People are more interested in learning French, Spanish and German and when asked to learn languages like Sanskrit, they simply say, "What's the use of it?" Amazing for me to hear this. many years ago I learned my first mantras and soaked up each sound and meaning like a blotter the ink. Ever since I have loved the sound of it and the mystery of the multi-level meanings it seems to have. I never got around to actually studying formally, but I continue to learn vocabulary and to sound prayers and text after examples. And your pronunciation is so slow and clear that I am learning in a satisfying manner. I experience what you experience in a small way - Sanskrit makes me happy deep down inside. It feels like the true language of the soul and I want more and more to have all my prayer be in Sanskrit, for only then does it feel pure and free from error.

Hello from Madrid in autumn! Thank you for sharing this video. It is great to hear (by 0:37) that you started studying Sanskrit at such an early age because you felt that its sound cleansed your soul. I had a similar experience with Latin, the sound of which seemed to me so majestic, solemn, noble, and elegant, that I asked my father to teach me Latin… when I was 8 years old. Then my father said that I would have plenty of time for learning it, so I chose Latin as soon as I could in the high-school, and later I got a PhD in Classics. But, while my degree studies in Classics, I also felt strongly attracted to Sanskrit, and not only because of the philosophy and literature that are written in it, but because its sound suggested to me contemplation and ecstasy (I could not say whether it cleansed my soul; perhaps it was doing so, without me being aware of it). There was no such specialty as Indology in Spanish universities, but at least a one-year course in Sanskrit was offered, which I chose. Thereafter I could not continue with it; I missed it a lot, and after a lot of years I took advantage of a period of unemployment for reviewing the whole grammar on my own and start looking for texts about myths I was interested in, and translating them… and here I am, devoting roughly one hour per day to Sanskrit.

You are the true ambassador of world's oldest known language SANSKRIT . It is the language in which the great Indian saints wrote about science , universe , atoms and many scientific facts which can't got patented on time and thousands of years later discovered by others... For many years, I was under the (obviously mistaken) impression that Sanskrit was now just a written language, that we could only assume it was once spoken, but that we have no idea how it was pronounced. In the U S, maybe the West at large, that seemed to be the generally held opinion. So when A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada published a Sanskrit pronunciation guide, I thought he must be guessing. Recently, I met an Indian gentleman who told me that Sanskrit was now being utilized in some manner, at least in India, in the IT field. I'm not sure if it's correct to say as a 'computer language,' but he seemed to be implying something of the sort. King Ashurbanipal (740-681 BC) of Assyria, grandson of King Sennacherib, said he could "read the language from before the flood," that catastrophic event of 13,000 years ago for which we now have firm geologic evidence, at the end of the last Great Ice Age. Recently, linguists have acknowledged Sumerian as the root of all human languages, extant & otherwise, including Chinese. All except for one: Sanskrit. The Sumerian culture, & it's satellite civilization, Akkad, flourished from about 6,000 to 4,000 BC, & ended due to a terrible mistake somewhat over 5,000 years ago. The fanciful, abridged version of the story is in the Old Testament. (FYI: In the area where the Biblical cities Sodom & Gomorrah were located, the 'background count,' or radioactive isotope level, is far higher than is possible without a nuclear event having occurred there sometime in the past.) We know that the Indian subcontinent contains the oldest extant civilization on Earth, older indeed than Sumer itself. So when someone said in one of your comment sections that "Sanskrit is the language of the gods," they may be precisely correct. Because Ashurbanipal was referencing some tablets in the great library at Ninevah inscribed w/language from before the flood of 13,000 yrs ago, long before there was a Sumerian culture. This was indeed the *language of the gods," the very 'gods' who gave language to human beings; who are, in fact, responsible for the existence of human beings. Dr Arthur C Clarke once said, "Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." And I'll leave you with that. Again, thank you so much for your beautiful work!

Wonderful video. We home educate our son and he uses the "Sanskrit is Fun" program (the same that is used at Saint James in London),in addition to other Sanskrit resources online to help with his pronunciation. We are looking forward to him finally being able to read and understand the great Indian classics in the original language. He is already studying ancient Greek and Latin,in addition to being fluent in his mother's language, and that has helped him magnanimously to grasp Sanskrit with relative ease since his mother's language is also a highly inflected Asian language.

It's great to hear your pronunciation its make me surprise coz when I was my sister house there was bagawa gita so I took and recite and during night time I realy love sanskrit during my childhood but never get through on that subject so always I practise by myself sometime not sure certain words I never gave up ,what I do same words repeat for 50 times at last I will conform. Gabriella, I've been interested in Sanskrit and it's children languages for sometime, mainly because it seems to be the language that gave birth also to mathematics. I reasoned that if I could teach myself to think in Sanskrit or one of the languages that descended from it, I could find answers to certain questions I had in mediation but who's answers seemed to defy English. In studying Punjabi and Hindi, I'm finding a new understanding of mathematics, but not what I was expecting. I'm starting to understand the spiritual side of it. If you're open to conversation, I'm interested in what effects you feel the learning of Sanskrit has had on your understanding of the universe and your place in it. I still have many questions.
