1. I want to start my career in APAC finance industry
2. I want to learn Chinese
3. I got scholarships

This was good. I also found that it's a bit harder to practice Mandarin in Hong Kong because the locals mainly speak in Cantonese, so if I wanted to speak to them in Mandarin, I would have to initiate the conversations in Mandarin.

It's hard though, people would most likely prefer to answer you in English. This is because we either using English or Cantonese with traditional Chinese characters in school, and one cannot fail English, while Mandarin is just one of the subjects which you could fail and still promote (like me whoops). Hence many of us actually suck in Mandarin, making us a poor choice to practice with.

Local HK people talk to all foreigners in English. They only talk to Mainland Chinese (大陸人）in Mandarin. When foreigners speak Cantonese to HK people, HK people will be happy. Just like you speak French in France.

I’m from mainland who came to hk to finish my senior high school study. Similar to you ,i want to train my Cantonese at first .but every time i talk to my classmates in Cantonese,they reply me in maindarin 😂😂😂

Is hong kong an english friendly city? Or do locals mainly just know cantonese/chinese?

If I have to answer you, it is an english friendly place. More than Japan/Korea/Thailand/Mainland China, less than Singapore, hope it makes sense. :))

Did the protest in HK affect your studies? I'm conidering go to HK as a exchange student next spring but I'm worried that if i cannot take lectures because of protests

There is no seperate application for scholarships. It is part of the main application you submit for you ug or pg course. Good GPA, GRE/Gmat will automatically give you better chance of getting scholarships. Good luck!!

Hi Arpit, I’m not studying MBA right now. But in my opinion, if you want more exposure to Asia (particularly China), and gain connections, I think CUHK is great. For me MBA is all about who’s in your class and CUHK MBA got a lot of international students that’ll provide a lot of perspectives! Hope this helps! :)

Living Expenses as Student in Hong Kong ^_^

Depends on your lifestyle. If you choose a modest mode of living you will spend HKD 7500 on housing and HKD 3000 on food. And an additional HKD 2500 for miscellaneous purposes.
