Had the same squeaking issue with the driver side window on a 59 plate mk6 golf. We discovered that the wire that runs the window crane had jumped off one of the pulleys, you can see it if you drop the window all the way down and remove all the rubber seals, few drops of wd40 on the wire and pulleys made it silent again
@badgersalesman55952 жыл бұрын
I had the exact same thing on a sportage the other day. The people that bought it wanted me to get it sorted but I knew there was absolutely no way the service T_WATS would do anything about. All it is/was is a build up of dirt/moss/lime scale and all that good stuff in the tops of the window seal at the bottom of the window/top of the door ( the seal that cleans the window as it goes down ) I just ran a cloth round a panel puller back and forth between the seals ( damp ) for about five minutes till I had gotten rid of all the crap ( F me was it minging ) noise went away.

I bought a 1995 Peugeot 405 GTX TDI from a garage in 2005. He had just taken it in as a part exchange and it was absolutely filthy in side. He wanted £1000 for it,I offered £500 and would take it as is. He agreed and when I came back the next day to pick up the car he was really disgruntled. He had found an invoice in the glove box for nearly £1000 for work that had just been done on the car. All brake system overhauled,full service a few other things. It was a brilliant estate car,two trips to Portugal without any issues.Sold it two years later and all I ever did on it was servicing,replaced a rubber breather hose and a track control arm ball joint. I was certainly lucky with that one and no doubt their are bargains around,it's just the luck of the draw. As for the VW cabriolet is the inner door skin riveted on.total pain in the arse to get into to do any work.talking from experience on my Skoda fabia. Sold it on eBay for £500 so lost nothing.😁

The story at the end always gets my goat. I have always bought cheap cars but never took one back unless the seller was dishonest about it. Saying about paying to take oil away, at my friends garage, he has bought an oil heater, its a big red thing from visiting, and he just saves all the waste oil and uses that in winter to warm the garage for basically free, dont think it was cheap, but its heating and saves money long term as he doesnt have to get rid of waste oil.
@steve06806572 жыл бұрын
The emissions from burning used engine oil would be toxic to your health. Not only does engine oil have metal additives like calcium, phosphorus, zinc but it absorbes carcinogens throughout its 10,000 miles in the engine. New oil is relatively benign. Its the used stuff thats carcinogenic. Comes from the byproducts of combustion. Benzene in the gas ect. Using it in a space heater and breathing in exhaust would be really stupid. Cancer, thyroid problems, liver problems, leukemia, kidney problems... Just to save £100 on fuel.
@nicpye2482 жыл бұрын
You haven’t been able to burn waste oil , even though a swob, without a permit. The permit comes with stringent conditions and monitoring. Most garages now find it uneconomical.

Nice work on the shout out to the fire and oil companies. I used to work in fire protection back in the late 80’s, and I’m sure that servicing and new extinguishers were more expensive then!!! The last Toyota I bought was a 2007 Camry, which I bought at 222,000 miles and I ran up to 347,000 miles, when it was written off by a speeding driver. The car needed nothing doing to it at all apart from routine servicing in that time. I'm 50 and have been running cheap old Japanese cars only since I was 17. The only repairs my cars have ever needed over 33 years and probably a dozen cars are a sum total of one distributor, one fuel pump, one water pump and one wheel bearing. That's it.

James, I can appreciate that you are a honest car dealer but you need to stop pointing out every little fault with these vehicles. I am talking about every little dent or ding. In my opinion you are giving your customers every reason to fight you on your prices. On a 2015 car that gets 50 mpg and is a descent spec and only asking 2500.00 to 3000.00 pounds, Who really cares if it has a few dings or scratches. They are not buying a brand new car and if your customers do complain, just tell them to piss off. You are in this to make money and every little imperfection you fix to keep them happy is costing you money. Only making 500.00 pound profit per vehicle is not fair to you. You put a hell of a lot of work into these vehicles and you deserve to make a little higher profit. This is just my opinion.

P exs to small dealers like us are usually knack**Ed I don't usually take them, it means usually you end up basically buying business, it's so easy to look at them with Rose tints, if you look at your p exs over the mths you've been done most times.

Every car (even brand new) can have problems. I bought a brand new hyundai i30 in 2018 and it spent more time off the road than on it. I recently bought my daughter a 2010 Toyota Yaris and spent about $1100 on new tyre’s, full service, transmission service and a second hand door.. I know there’s a further few hundred to spend this year on brakes and suspension and factored that in when I bought it.

If you buy used cars, you MUST have a yearly repair budget. How much depends on the brands, but it should be at least 20% of the cars value. And, for gods sake, don't ignore repairs. That just stacks things up and will result in significantly higher costs. If you think you are getting a deal by buying an expensive car for 1/10th of the original cost, think again. Those cars are designed with repair costs relative to their original price, not what you paid for it.....

Probably at higher speeds that polo is back pressure more, maybe forcing oil thru the breather also oil will be thinner, basically needs a ring set, or a decent used engine, both labour intensive, but I'm supprised it even runs at 150k and supprised you bought it bud, 150k on a diesel OK or a 2 ltr Honda petrol, but a polo 3 Pot, I think your enthusiasm got the better of you and your customer, I've got a belingo diesel van with 189k on and it's fine, but people still aren't keen, I'd have stood behind that polo and smelt the burning oil before I bought it, take some time to do some basic checks on the engines, knocking, head gaskets, smoking, etc, your customers do, I jumped in and bought a wagon r the other day (was only 340 with fees) it was a corsa engined one (agila) only 80k but engine was basically knackered, noisy chain, crank sensor, low oil pressure (oil light came on) basically glugged it up to shift it at 600,but if chain jumps or it blows up I've got scrap, if only I'd have revved it up and opened the bonnet. That's at 80k bud not 150k as well, thought it was a suzuki engine that's why I didn't check, said suzuki on the boot!!

If I were to buy a car from you I would immediately buy new tyres. e.g. Michelin Crossclimate 2 at £92 each (fitted, balanced and new valves) less 15% for four, total £312.80 for my '07 Clio. Fitting new tyres you will have charged me ~£200 for tyres that I will scrap.

Just had letter of rejection for that freelander bud, leaking shock, a bush and obviously sill rust, can't see me winning so looks like I'll be going to the iow (300 miles) also someone's texted saying clutch has gone on their micra, I couldn't remember it, when I've looked it was last December (!) jobs getting to be a nightmare mate.

No way you are on hook for clutch from car in December!! She can reject it , thats fine but needs to deliver it back with side skirts on as it left you.

Oh the Polo, spoiler alert. Burned 750ml in 50 miles at 70mph. But then nothing next 25 miles on run home at 50/60 with some stop smoke additive in the oil already in engine. Thinking a change to thicker oil may help a lot.

@@ChopsGarage looks like we're going to pick it up from iow mate, I just loose in court, tbh I can't stand things like this over me for mths on end, I've been in court a few times before and never won, she's sornd it so she won't even move it, they can claim up to 750 for their mechanics opinion as well, plus maybe storage, might end up costing me 6 to 7k,while at the moment she just wants the purchase price of 3700,i can get it back, do the welding and re sell, I'll be 500 quid out of pocket I reckon when it all done with, lesson to be learned is that picky people need to be avoided, they were on about regection and court with other cars and I knew I shouldn't have sold it to them, re the clutch micra, I didn't realise it was sold last year, I remember now, I worked Christmas day morning fitting them a back box, I'm a bit off micras now tbh, it's also, would you believe another single young female, sames as the freelander, as another guy said there angry. Anyway I've just had luck in cleaning a dpf on a merc, I'll let you know if you get blocked dpf.

@@ChopsGarage you can't really get much thicker bud, there's some sort of classic type oil that resists burning I've seen advertised, I'd put 3 whyns supercharge for oil in it, or do like I'm doing for a service customer of mine with an A3 sell him a gallon a mth for 20 quid, yes seriously a gallon a mth, he paid 7.5k privately for it as well, smokey vw, audis mate.
