I've been building professionally for over 25 years now. The most important thing I've learned: It's not the tool . . . It's the person using them that makes the difference. Granted, the tools do make it easier, but ANY tool in the right hands can produce amazing results. So why break the bank if you don't have to.

Ryobi is paying you and DeWalt wasn't. That's really all there is to it. You don't have to defend or justify the decision.

I’ve used Ryobi and Dewalt professionally (my boss provided the Ryobi tools until I bought my Dewalt tools). In my opinion Ryobi is underrated when it comes to performance. That being said the reason I prefer Dewalt is not the performance, it’s the handle design. Dewalt’s handles are way more comfortable and after 8+ hours of using them heavily the Dewalt just feels better. For people that aren’t going to be using their tools as much Ryobi is definitely the better value though.

I turned 20 this year and i started working and i always wanted to have tools of my own, i decided to go the Ryobi way because not only is it the same battery always, they're great budget tools and sure i barely use them but when i do it's a treat to do so

We had a storm 2 years ago and lost some trees. I needed a chainsaw and went to the local box store. Only saw they had left was a 40v Ryobi. I basically had no choice so I bought it. It turned out to be one of the best chainsaws I ever used. Since then, I've purchased a Ryobi 40v lawn mower, edger, trimmer, pole saw, leaf blower, and a slew of 18v hand tools. I'm totally all green !!

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.

I'm about the same age as you, however I was raised in a family of builders, architects, and engineers over here in good ol' Montana. As a contractror, I've never really had a preference for a tool, neither has anyone in my family. It's a matter of using whatever tools works for you and the job you're doing. I do lean towards some colors over others for certain tools simply because I've had good experiences with them and I honestly haven't experimented much with others. The past three years I've actually been buying and using more Ryobi for smaller projects simply because they work and I've had good luck with them so far. I still have and use a lot of DeWalt and Makita stuff, but haven't had any major problems with Ryobi and they're also more affordable. However, as someone who builds residential homes and apartment buildings, I will say that my DeWalts and Makitas have held up under far more stress than Ryobis. I can drop my DeWalt drill three stories (it happens - don't tell OSHA!) and be confident that it won't be phased. With Ryobi? No way, had chucks break, random parts snap, it's a different game. BUT, I'm totally OK with that - Ryobi is built for a different job and the savings reflect that. For normal home owners or hobbyists - Ryobi is a great tool, you get a lot of bang for your buck. I've build sheds, decks, bedrooms, all kinds of stuff without issue. Also, have Ryobi yard tools - all of which have been performing great for the last year I've had them.

I started out with the blue Ryobi and at one point decided to up my cordless game and actually looked into stepping away from Ryobi but in the end I stayed and with their new line of tools I know I made a great choice price and quality wise. I have a contractor buddy that gives me grief because of my tools but one day his drill wasn't cutting it and as you guess he borrowed mine and was very impressed.

I've been using Ryobi for years. Remodeled a house with them as well and they've never let me down.

I have around 10 Ryobi tools, no regrets, my oldest tool is 7 y.o. and still working like a champ, when I replacing some tools but for the brushless option, I don't know why many people complain about those tools, for me those are life savers...

Not a Ryobi fanboy but I bought some because they were decent and affordable- now I am searching them out so I can use my battery stash. They also have a large selection and I love the portable fan for working in the heat, under a car, in the RV or just on the deck

I’m the same way. I got into rebuilding my deck from the ground up, but I knew I needed good power tools that wouldn’t kill my wallet given I had a strict budget. I’ve watched pretty much all your videos and I’ve noticed you use ryobi. So I figured why not. So now I have about 20 ryobi tools and garden tools as well. And honestly it’s been money well spent. Just made a lateral move in the last week to Ryobi as well. Got into the Craftsman line, which was solid, but so limited. Their line wasn't really releasing anything new or even close to Ryobi. Not to mention the cost. This only solidifies and supports my choice. Great take 👍🏽

I make many of my took buying choices based on Project Farm videos. Sometimes Ryobi is an excellent value and I end up buying. Other times... Most of the time... They aren't. However, I don't use these for a living and I just need something that works. Ryobi has been great for 90% of what I needed to get done.

I use to work for the Big Box store HD and I enjoyed using Ryobi and Ridgid tools personally. I bought a 5 pcs set of Ridgid. Another good way to not break the bank is check the deals the big box store offers as well, helps a ton when getting tools. Have had Ryobi drills/sander/buffer/polisher and hedge trimmer for >7 years for work around my home and know that each piece is reliable. When Hurricane Ian hit, none of the yard/tree/shrub contractors were interested in small (½ acre) jobs. So, over the past 9 days, this small framed female (w/gloves & glasses) and her TeamRyobi-chain saws, hedge trimmers and power lopper have tackled a large oak that split, many feet of branches, bushes, borders, palms, shrubs, debris & fencing all WITHOUT fail! We (TeamRyobi & I) have kept up with the others in my neighborhood. With power restored I am able to work >8 hours straight. I give out - not my Ryobi tools. Brilliant cordless/interchangable battery system.

I love that you were fully transparent about why you made the change I bought a home last year that was our dream home but was a fixer-upper it was the only way I could get in this area after getting bids from contractors and filling like it going to take a lot of money to fix this up I decided to try to do the projects my self I begin the buy tools now I have dewalt tools only because my brother in law works for Stanley black and decker so I get a deal on the tools. I also own Ryobi Tools and Rigid they are basically the same company My uncle who does maintenance for an apartment complex told me he loves his Ryobi tools over his Dewalt now not knocking Dewalt as I love their tools also but I for the price, you can get a nice Ryobi set up for a much less price and it would do the same jobs. Between mechanic stuff and home improvement stuff the best advice I’ve heard is the sliding scale of tools. If you’re going to use it once or twice / occasionally , go with harbor freight or ryobi until it breaks and then you know what type of tool you’ll need by then from using it so much. But if you make your money daily with the tools buy the best tool you can afford at that time.

I have DeWalt and Ryobi, started moving to Ryobi because of all the different types of tools on the platform. I also have the garage door opener. Just bought a new Ryobi tool this past weekend. They work great and don't break the bank.

I started collecting tools maybe a year ago today. Fortunately at this time, the One+HP platform was really improving and the newest models of different tools are overtaking previous models. The usual tools like the recip, impact, and driver make my jobs easy. I’ve even gotten some miscellaneous tools such as the pole pump and the grease gun. They’re job specific but damn do they get the job done. I’m not all about having the highest numbers. I’ll take ryobi 10/10 times

I love my Ryobi tools. That is all I have and the best thing is the battery will work with older tools and future tools. Ryobi will always keep the same battery platform to work in any future tool they develop and I also use the 40 volt tools too.

My first battery drill was a blue 12V Ryobi, it was a power house, I loved it, I had for about 4 years before my dad used it and dropped it from a 12 foot ladder and it shattered the internal trigger mechanism beyond repair.

I went with Milwaukee M12/18 fuel for the major stuff, and it’s been amazing as expected for the price. But less use stuff I go Ryobi now. Couldn’t keep justifying $200 tool only for stuff I needed for a job or two. Been impressed with the random ope options they have like bug foggers etc lol

I have all Ryobi tools and I love them. Haven't had a problem yet and all the batteries being interchangeable makes it a breeze switching from tool to tool.

We got the ryobi leaf blower. Works awesome. But I have to admit my drills and chop saw are dewalt. I think my preference came when I worked for a general contractor and he had mostly dewalt tools. There has been a lot of battery innovation and just plain every day tool innovation since I quit that job. Im interested in even more companies that can compete with ryobi.

Thanks for stating what my argument has been for years. I am not a contractor or professional. I'm a homeowner that needs a good reliable tool platform that is wide with many options and won't break the bank. In addition, I can replace one tool 3 times and still be cheaper than most Dewalt.

I’ve got a Pole saw, weed wacker, drill/driver, impact driver, reciprocating saw, orbital sander, jigsaw, circular saw, multi tool, the dust buster, and probably some more I can’t think of right now. I’m currently renovating a 1930’s house. My tools have held up just fine and don’t everything I needed over the last year. Friend of mine who is a contractor has helped me a little here and there was actually pleasantly surprised with how the Ryobi stuff performed.

Dewalt for the win I’m not a contractor but they have never failed me in the past. 5 years plus the grips are comfortable also dewalt stuff is becoming more affordable also the older models

My experience with Ryobi, the batteries don’t last long at all. I’m not a fan of battery operated tools anyway but my dewalt batteries outlast Ryobis batteries by days.

I too started with the Yellow tools. They were good... Then I bought som Ryobi when they were Blue because they were cheaper. They were good as well. Then, Ryobi changed from Nicaragua batteries to Lithium and they would still fit in my old tools. Even better... I still have a few of the old blue tools that still work great but a lot of their newer Green tools. Love them a lot... Don’t see any reason to switch but have had a few Milwaukee pieces over the years that I liked but gifted them to my son-in-law as he is a Milwaukee fan...

Well said...I have invested in generations of excellent tools....DeWalt...Rigid...Craftsman...They were all great construction tools. I have however largely moved into Ryobi (and I'm not a professional grade contractor but a 'many hobby' consumer) because they are good value for money and they are using their 18+ battery technology as the basis of addressing a huge range of wider consumer needs - fans, grease guns, high pressure sprayers, tire inflaters, leaf blowers, food coolers etc. They are present at my home, in my car garage, on my RV and in my boat. I would encourage them to continue to make their batteries more energy dense, less expensive and usable by multi-generational tools if they want to create an unassailable advantage in their market space.

I really respect his viewpoint on breaking the bank and what his viewers say. We all wish we had 10k for tools to do amazing upgrades to our house but we need a more realistic approach with realistic tools that get the job done. Most of his viewers are diy people that might use these tools for one project and that’s it and if everyone sees he is using dewalt or Bosch they are gonna think that is the only way so I respect that he can show us that we don’t need fancy tools to get the job done. I’ve owned some dewalt tools, yes they feel better built but at the end of the day even as I own a small woodworking business I have plenty of green tools and they haven’t let me down yet and there used daily.

I don't use my tools much (for now), but from all comparisons I've seen, all I can trust is Milwaukee, aside from one drill I had in the very beginning that was Kobalt, all I have now is Milwaukee, will never get anything else.

for me it's always been about the impact drivers, they do the bulk of my work, and the Ryobi is larger, and heavier but works perfectly fine. When your driving in 500 screws in a couple of hours it makes a big difference on your hands and arms. I always keep my Ryobi in the truck just in case though.......

I bought that 5pc Roybi set a few years ago as my first cordless tool set and I've been very happy with them, great bang for the buck tool for what little I do. I bought them because I didn't have a Harbor Freight near me and I wanted something I could expand into. Of course, last year our little town got a HF so... LOL. But no regrets. My tools get used regularly (except the leaf blower, turns out that's not so useful).

I purchased a Ryobi set back when they were blue with NiCad batteries. Just starting a family, no money and they were cheap. Fast Forward 15 years and the old NiCad batteries wouldnt hold a charge long enough to accomplish anything. Yes, they lasted 15 years and the only problem was the batteries. I decided to upgrade to the new Lithium batteries and instead of shelling out the $ for a "good" set, I decided that for the price I would give Ryobi another go. I purchased the drill and impact driver set with the thought of "Meh, I dont really use the other saws and stuff to justify spending money on them And I can always purchase them later if I need them". Being a cheap skate at that moment was one of the best things I ever did. You see, when I got home my new Lithium batteries turned out to be backwards compatible with my old Blue Ryobi tools. I have not seen another tool company do that. Ryobi turned me into a life long supporter with that move. They are not the greatest tools on the market but they are far from the worst. If I were a general contractor and made my living off of these tools my opinion might be different, but I honestly dont think it would be. A DeWalt might last longer, but I would have to see how many years the extra $ got me before I would switch.

Been using them for years, no problems. I have Festool, Ridgid, and HF as well. but my battery platform is Ryobi. Even have some blue remanufactured tools that are still going strong after lots of use. couldn't be happier.

I'm at best DIY-ER lol but I bought $500.00 worth of Ryobi tools when I bought my house. This ranged from outside tools to cut down trees, pruners, edger, blower, and then for my inside renovations I was able to get a circular saw, multi-tool, brad nailer, sander, drill gun, 3 batteries etc. I was able to renovate my bathrooms, flooring, walls, ceilings, and build an island for my kitchen. So just from my experience, I can honestly say I got my money's worth. Again, it's all about the user. I'm not ashamed to say I've collected over 50 products from the Ryobi line and have had zero failures.

This really hits home with me. I had someone give me a really hard time for my tools told me to stop wasting my money on "toys" because I didn't buy DeWalt. I had 2 options buy a cheap tool and build or get a different hobby. I built my kid a giant treehouse with those cheap tools some of them are even black and decker. they have lasted for over 5 years of moderate use.

The $199 dollar Ryobi set is a nice start. Plus HD is always running deals on batteries and tools. Direct Tool Outlet is a great source for blemished or reconditioned Ryobi stuff as well. I'll spend the few extra bucks on a miter saw or a table saw to get extra precision or durability, but I've been very impressed with my Ryobi stuff.

As a Industrial maintenance technician the 1/2 impact wrench (P262) 1/4 impact driver (PBLID01B) I would recommend. The 1/2 drill I struggle to drill through a aluminum block the 3/8 impact wrench could not remove 1/2 bolts or nuts I was a bit disappointed.

I have DeWalt and I have Ryobi. I've had Ryobi when they were blue and they still work just fine even better with the new batteries. I personally think DeWalt is overpriced for both professionals and diyers. They're not what they used to be. If I didn't pay an arm and a leg for the four DeWalt tools that I have, I would ditch them and stick with Ryobi.

I've been running Ryobi HP line at work plumbing apartments and small commercial buildings, as well as Reno's at home and they never miss a beat and are very tough

Same feedback. Even if ryobi were crap, the ecosystem and the amount of tools on one batter system is key. You mentioned marine, I switched to full ryobi for the boat tools because I could get everything from a wet/dry vac to a fan to a small inverter on the ryobi system. Since AC power is tough to come by on most boats, it's a huge advantage to run almost everything off of your DC ryobi packs.

When i purchased my 1st home. a Ryboi Drill was gifted to me. it was such a great tool for when i used it i figured why buy another brand and have to buy different batteries and chargers. i now have 10 + Ryobi cordless tools. All are perfect for around the house jobs. i was just able to pick up the P262 for $92 can't wait to use that to get tires off my vehicles this weekend.

Also a big fan of Ryobi tools, they are the market leaders in Australia and live up to the job, more and more tradies (Contractors) are using them also! They take a beating, and the only one i have had fail on me is the pressure washer. (full refund)

I thought about getting into Ryobi but I am already invested in milwaukee. I don’t have a lot of tools but they are so darn expensive and I just want the tool to help me without having to worry about it. If I could go back I would most likely just go Ryobi. Definitely good value

I've been using Ryobi since I bought my house back in 2008. My first tool was their weed (whacker) trimmer. 14 years later and the thing still runs like a champ. I too have an arsenal of Ryobi tools. Haters be damned, you can't beat the price and quality. I'm now swapping out older tools for their new HP line. The new 1/2 inch impact is words better than the previous model. AND... they have another, more power impact that can bust over 1000 ft lbs. RYOBI ALL DAY LONG.

I like Craftsman. I don’t use it enough to know if they are good or not, I just remember my Dad always having them and with him living thousands of miles away it’s a nice little reminder. 😊

I've got a combination of Dewalt and Ryobi tools, I do like the feel of the Dewalt circular saws alot more then the Ryobi's. Drills are on par but I do lean towards grabbing the Dewalt 9 out of 10 times. But for the price and vast selection of tools, Ryobi is amazing. They hold up well, most comes with a 3 year warranty. Theres a bunch of tools that I use like once a year, Ryobi in those situations is my go to. There is no point paying 2-3 times more for a tool that you'll use a few times.

My two platforms are Ryobi and Festool. The tools that require dust collection are Festool like sanders, router, and track saw. All my drills, drivers, flashlights, multitool, fan, etc. are Ryobi.

I went a atep further and got the 8pc Ryobi set and have been pleased with all of them. Only additional tool from another brand I have are the M12 compact drill and driver that were on sale Black Friday normally $299 for $219

Always had Snap On tools, Literally $100,000+ in Snap On tools. Now that I'm retired of late last year, having purchased our 2nd house and doing some renovations... at the end of the day, it doesn't matter about brands. Too many brands out there unlike back in 20-30 years ago. At the end of the day, it's what tool that got the job done.

i work as a diesel mechanic and love my Milwaukee but i also have some not so used tools in ryobi ... cant beat the price i also have secondary tools in ryobi like a 125mm milwaukee grinder for cutting and grinding but a spare ryobi one for running a flapper disk just makes makes life easy

All my tools are ryobi and I love them. No point in breaking the bank for tools I'll see on little projects, woodwork, etc. They are a great brand. I even have their gardening line using the 40V battery. Highly recommend them.

Ryobi are good tools but they start to get pricey here in uk, sometimes shopping around for a good deal for a little more can buy bosch or makita. Of course it always depends

The ytobi brushless hp is underrated. I could afford the red and yellow brands but stuck with thr green machine for my home diy.

I switched over exclusively to Ryobi a few years ago as well after I found it too costly and yard to find a replacement battery for my Makita stuff. I'm a home owner, not a contractor and they perform well, especially for the price.

Hey! I am on the Dewalt 20v line, which I think is awesome. However, I'm super thankful for you tackling this subject. I agree with you 100%. You "DO NOT NEED Dewalt" to make amazing projects. Im always telling people this. If you can save the $$ do it. 👍👍

I am on dewalt because I started on this battery platform. The reason I started on this platform is the awesome multi-tool DCS356B. It was in sale for maybe 129$CAD including a 3ah battery (which is an amazing deal). Then bought the DCF887 on blackfriday for 88$CAD (super cheap) and then had to buy a great drill (DCD791B) for less than a 100$. It all went from there and been super happy. However, when I needed more specialised tool I was comparing the price from dewalt and Ryobi and it made no sense (18gauge brad nailer from dewalt is 419$ and currently the Ryobi is 118$ and great. So started from there on Ryobi for some stuff and been happy. There is a balance in everything.

I don’t know how well known this is but you can buy adapter’s that let you interchange battery’s and tools of different make’s. I have some old Black and Decker tools that I use my new, more efficient Dewalt battery’s in. Also have an adapter that allows me to use my Dewalt battery’s in my Ryobi nail guns. Got them from a seller on eBay.

I use Ryobi at home and have a lot of them. For the job occasionally working on heavy equipment and 1/4” steel I carry Makita. The batteries last longer and the tools under those conditions perform better

Only Ryobi tool I ever bought was a wet saw to cut tile for my master bathroom remodel - the ~$120 model from Home Depot. Thought that I didn't need to spend a fortune on a wet saw that I wasn't going to use often - I am a DIYer. Did not last the entire project, I had to run back to Home Depot and buy the Ridgid $300 saw with sliding tray and bevel cut ability. Long story short the Ryobi is currently sitting in my dumpster outside waiting to be carted away and the Ridgid is ready to tackle my next bathroom project and my upcoming walkway paver project. My Ridgid and Dewalt tools have not failed to get projects done, Ryobi has and will never buy again.

Their new stuff is really surprising. I’m a makita and Festool guy personally, but Ryobi that is out now would have been perfect for me when starting out. When are they going to send you the new track saw to replace tryout kreg? Spoiler, the kreg riving knife is way better than ryobis attempt.

Funny thing is, in the UK Ryobi is pretty much same price as DeWalt. I've always coveted DeWalt, but my sensible brain just got whatever 2nd hand tools I could and I've been able to do the jobs fine. My fav tool is my 18v Bosch drill.

I purchased my first Ryobi tool when my expensive DeWalt screw gun failed failed 3+ decades ago in order just to finish a Job cheaply... 43 Ryobi tools later including all my all OPE tools I still have my fi hammer drill. 👍🏻👍🏻

My father as a general contractor used ryobi Milwaukee and makita.he always talked about loving his blue ryobi drills and inpacts and drivers they never failed him .even dropping them off 40 foot ladders while doing gutters.he like them because he didnt have to break the bank to get more batteries. Always used DeWalt on the job and off, I’ve seen Ryobi on the job, usually in the gang book broken. Now at home for yard work I started using Ryobi 40v tools. Weed whacker, pruner, hedge trimmer and blower. Then my hedge trimmers hand guard broke so I went on Ryobis sight was sent to a company named Gardners website. Pulled up the diagram of the trimmer found the number, ordered the part. Wrong part was delivered. Call talked with customer service they apologized saying the diagram was labeled wrong and she gave me the correct part number, or so she said. Ordered that part NOPE wrong again, so now I have 2 parts I don’t need and was told I would receive a refund for the first part and now I called and told them I want to be refunded for both and I would gladly send the parts back, just send me the label. Make a long story short they stop replying to my emails I got refunded for the first part never for the second emailed them three or four more times and no reply back went to Ryobi‘s corporate website filed a complaint they sent me an email told them what happened on the email never heard a reply. I will never ever buy another Ryobi tool. Dewalt parts, I never have a problem finding

One nice feature is that the physical battery design hasn't changed since the mid 1990's so if you have any Ryobi tools from then you can still use them with the newer Ryobi batteries. I like it when companies don't make a product obsolete over something like batteries. My dad and myself have both been using Ryobi for years and have never had issues with them. The tool snobs might stick their nose up, but I'll gladly buy the Ryobi tools and save my money to buy even more tools or other fun things.

Ive never had a issue with the tools themselves just the batteries. I’ve had multiple 40V and 18V batteries go bad. Then when I try to call to warranty the battery it’s multiple months to wait for a new one

I have been using Ryobi since the blue days. I have never had any complaints or failures. I did wear out my original blue NiCad set and moved to the 18+ set's since they came out and have never had a complaint. I actually sold my DeWalt tools as I don't use either for work, and didn't really like the weight of the DeWalts compared to Ryobi. Also, Ryobi had so many tools available for the price it's great. I also like I can get on average 3x the battery AMP Hrs with Ryobi than I can with DeWalt/Milwaukee and Cobalt etc....

I have Ryobi tools and I like that they work in my home shop, every time. The drills, biscuit joinery, impact, fret saw etc etc all work. I am not being paid to say this. So often people give me grief that I didn’t buy “real” tools. I have made so many things for us and friends.
