Why everyone keep recommending Z30 for freaking vlogging only and Z50 for stills? Because of EVF? Come on guys! More than 10 years a vast majority of people are shooting on their phones and rarely anyone besides professional photographers even uses EVF.

Yeah that might well be how it all changes, I for one love an evf for photography and hate just using a screen but the next generation will probably be different.

The LCD screen can be difficult to view in bright sunlight so one has a choice to use the EVF without hindrance of glare

Maybe I'm crazy, but I just bought it mainly for photography, as a travel camera, to take on a motorbike, to support another FF camera. Also for its 12-28, unique on the market for lightness and performance.

Can't answer the crazy bit, don't know you well enough 😳🤣 Still a great camera for photography, I'm just use to a view finder. At least it has a small footprint for your travel with that though 👍

I did too. I take the most photos when I'm on trips, and carrying around a full sized camera was always a pain. I bought mine while I was in New York, and took about 300 pictures over the next few days.

BTW, apart from the telly light up front, you get a nice red banner around the monitor to indicate recording. neat.

It is a heck of a camera! I use it mostly for daily photography, later on I will explore it's video capabilities. No EVF, so I have to adjust how I use it. Colors, focus and resolution are off the scale, (it is a Z camera) of course I recommend it!

Absolutely agree. By the way, Z30 has no recording limit. Also, I just found out I can change the self portrait setting and show my levels while recording.

It has no limit but apparently it overheats really quickly in 4K

@@gregoz6 never had it overheat once, I've run it for hours on end. Highly unlikely it would overheat also, the data rates aren't that high with their 8 bit MP4 codec.

Yeah never had mine over heat and always shoot in 4k and got about 30 mins at a time. Suppose might be different for a couple of hours but the max I've done is 1hour 5mims 🤷

Nikon says it will record around 125 minutes of 1080 footage if you provide power over the camera's USB-C port. 4K will likely stop after approximately 35 minutes at 25°C (77°F).@@petersuvara

The Viltrox lenses are great for this camera. The only thing I don't like on the Z30 is the small battery.

Yeah but the fact that it can be powered by usb-c is great. I have it plugged into a vmount battery in the case 👍

I have cameras that do shoot NRAW but I don't use it unless it's for a commercial job due to the storage and extra work processing.

Hello, I want a camera for casual photography and for family vacation. For that, the Z30 seems to be the perfect one. But later i may want to explore more amateur wildlife photography and maybe even astrography. So, considering that do you think i will be missing the EVF for serious photography? Should I get the Z50 in that case? Note: i am not a Vlogger or content creator. But i have not used a camera for more than 10 years now. Using only my smart phone.

I think you will miss not having an EVF when using it primarily for photography so go with the z50 or zfc (which has eye auto focus rather than just face) 👍🏼 hope that helps 😀

Is Nikon z50 better for photos ? I would like to use my camera to both photography and videos but the screen in z50 is not convincing

It all comes down to the evf, if you want that for your photography then it's the z50. I still use an evf for taking photos and occasionally use the screen.

I agree if you bought into the Z50 ecosystem then the Z30 is a good upgrade. The annoyances with my Z50 for KZfaq filming are lack of tally light (so if you hit 30 min you might not know) and lack of power over USB, made worse by the battery shortage, it took 2 years to get extra batteries. Eventually I found a dummy battery and power supply. The Z30 should fix these and it's a great value camera, very underrated by the KZfaq establishment.

8 bit 4.2.0 with recording limit does not cut it anymore.

Why? most people who use these camera use it for KZfaq and with the compression you are not going to notice the difference and you won't necessarily have the computing power to make the most of it or the storage required. If you are using it professionally then you are going to get the lighting right first and then the extra depth that you record won't make that much difference or else you are going to use a camera like RED for the quality and range because you are being paid to have professional kit (which this doesn't fall into that category). I appreciate that other cameras do have this capability but in reality it's not really needed for the intended audience or am I missing something? 🤔 (I could well be)

@@TerryLivesey Firstly, a camera for a 'targeted' audience marketing hype, is just the latter. Any camera can do almost anything you want, as the rest depends on you. So, I get your point. Most modern cameras, however, are offering better specs for true hybrid shooters, and that's where I am coming from.

I would say yes to the z50 but it depends what you want it for against the z30. If it's just video then I think the z30, if you're going to do photos with a bit of video then z5. The z5 doesn't have eye detect, doesn't have continues record time, it has limited slow mo options, it does however have full frame (photos and 1080 video), it does have an evf, it does have dual card slot. So work those options out and see which is best for you 👍

Sweet thank. Okay one last few questions. So I do mostly 90% webcam stuff the other is field video and some photos. I don’t mind spending money on this camera. 1,500$ is my middle budget for it. I need low light and preferably full frame with in mind another camera next year from tax write off. First real camera. My friend has z7. I like it a lot.

the z7 will give 120fps slo mo as the z5 will give you 60. bigger sensor faster burst. Thats about it. You could get a decent z7 second hand. We bought another z5 second hand because it was so useful and did the job, but we have other cameras to fill the voids. The z7II takes you way into a different price bracket so consider the the z7 second hand from somewhere like MPB, that’s where we bought from.

Thank you very much for answering my question. It’s sound like if I want to go with Nikon the z6,z6ii or z7 is my best bet. And Sony full frame is out of my budget. Are the mid frame Sony cameras perform well as Nikon? Thank you very much. I’ll give you a shout out to my followers on Twitter.

The only drawback is that this camera has very few lenses to choose from, each more expensive than the next 😂

There are loads of Z lenses now and the Viltrox range is great - I wasn't sure about using a third party lens but it's my daily vlog lens now - 14mm

I bought an adapter now and connected my prime 35mm lens, works great, and the 70-300mm works well too :-) except both are pretty noisy :-) But, now I know I can take advantage of plenty of F mount lenses.

It's amazing that at the time of just F mount the noise was never really a problem, but since using z mount you realise how noisy they are 🤣

For me Z30 all the way man over the Z50, cheaper, smaller, lighter, with the 2 kit lenses it is a steal, because of all those reason I just don't care for EVF which for my point of view is useless anyway

To be fair, it does especially in low light or low contrast. But I haven't really noticed it in real world use, but I do always tend to have good lighting 😬
