Hey everyone! Welcome to all my new subscribers! I decided to try something different and do my first video talking to the camera, so go easy. Kinda weird but kinda fun, maybe I'll do more.

at this point, You don't even neeed to have 4k from body. Almost every video editing software have great upscaler. So casual viewer wont see any diffrence. Biggest problem with old cams is workflow. You have to do much work after record, so You have less time for family. Dynamic range is also a problem, when You miss exposure. But when You have to record landscape, there's no need for lastest gear.

Agreed for some things. I still enjoy 4K, high dynamic range and bit depth tho

My first BMPCC is 10 years old. The sensor glass started to get foggy, so I sent it to Blackmagic UK for a repair job. Now it's as good as new and I bought a second one. The BMPCC has something magical to it. It's quirky, limited and flawed, but it has personality. It produces images that look like from a dream world.

I miss my OG BMPCC. I never caged and rarely put a loupe on the screen and I shot it with some old 17mm Schneider c-mount lens. It was such a tiny package that it just ended up everywhere with me. It looks awesome graded with the Fuji Eterna LUT on it. These days I have a lot of gear but I tend to keep older bodies. After a ton of recent Fujis, twice I had the Xpro3, I am now fine with the Fuji XT2. And yeah, the XE2 is fantastic. Try manual glass on it. I used to shoot a CV Skopar 35/2.5 on it and loved the output.

Great video, I use 20 year old Sony, Minolta and Olympus digital cameras for my work. Such as the Sony Cybershot R1, Sony F828. Old doesn't mean rubbish. The Minolta Konica A1 & A2 have brilliant lenses, their controls are all exterior and ergonomically they are so good to use. Regards Rob (UK)

@@andrewcollie I admit I do have a Canon 200D & 700D, but I rarely use them, I'm currently using a Minolta Dimage 7Hi, with a superb fixed GT zoom lens. The 7 series are more or less the same design as the A1 & A2. The great feature of the Minolta 7 series is they use AA batteries. I don't really care about mirrorles or massive gig sensors, in my opinion good photographers can use any camera to get great results. Regards Rob

Hi Chris - I enjoyed your video. I like old cameras and lenses, too. I have a Sony A7III, and I use a lot of vintage glass with it (with adapters). My favorite old cameras are: Canon 5D classic from 2005 (I have 2 of these), and my Pentax K1000 film camera (I have 2 of these, plus the older Pentax Spotmatic with M42 mount). The 5D classic produces images that are almost magical. No other camera can match it. It's only 12MP, but it makes the best portraits of any camera I ever used. I also love shooting film with the Pentax K1000 cameras. They are of course totally manual, but they feel great in the hand, and they are built like tanks. Will probably outlive me. I like taking pictures around Detroit, where I live. I see a few of your videos were shot in Detroit.

From a (mostly) photographic approach I've been using "old gear" until they die and only upgrading then (or replacing them with equally old second hand gear) I've an older x100t that cost me a song (about $150USD) just before the hype - as well as both the GX7 and GF3 lumix bodies which being light I've traveled around the world with and can't fault despite being "only" 16 and 12MP respectively. I also managed to return to film back before the they became "trendy" with most of them being extremely cheap (and in some cases free)

mostly good stuff, but I'd try to dissuade anyone who wants to go shoot actual film, I'd old enough that there were no digital cameras when I grew up and learned the basics, I shot on 35mm film and VHS video tape.... A LOT. There is absolutely nothing that would make me touch that stuff again, even with a long pole, I'd pile all of it up and set it all on fire. I can understand younger ppl wanting to have a taste of what came before - but for the love of all things holy do NOT promote the actual use of that horrid old crap for anything but to point and laugh at. The time I wasted trying to get those things to even work at all was more than the time spent actually using them productively.

@@faded_memory Heh okay, I love taking pictures and recording stuff, and being able to actually look at the results afterwards, and show others what I saw and why I took a picture or recorded something. Film actively makes that either unnecessarily hard, expensive or plain impossible. I've had film rip inside a camera, meaning the gears that pull the film out of the roll tore a hole in the film, after like the 3rd picture, so a whole trip to Rome was without a single picture by me because the film didn't move in the camera, just the counter did. That was the last time I shot on film, went digital 100% after that for photos, digital tape for video, then later mostly memory cards for video too because tape sucks.
@faded_memory
@faded_memory 9 ай бұрын
@@noth606 for sure I get what you’re saying. I shoot both for different reasons. I like not seeing the results right away and that it causes me to slow down. @@faded_memory Each to their own, absolutely, on the bright side you won't see me in line to buy that last roll of film in the shop, if nothing else 😀 However I would say that you can get VERY close to specific film look with digital, if you want. I have shots that you'd think were made on Kodak Gold 200 and others on Fujifilm 400, I did make them on purpose like that. Those two types of film being ones I used to shoot a lot before digital.
