@@cloudvc5536 I mean, I take gaming seriously, but i play a lot of RPGs and slower paced games. I can use a membrane keyboard, so long as it isnt a fucking Dell. Dell has the shittiest keyboards. But, yeah, my keyboard choices have always seemed weird to my fellow gamers, for example, I play a lot of Dwarf Fortress, so I could never use a 60%, European, or TKL. I would really maximize comfortably over responsiveness with a keyboard, so Switching to membrane wouldn't be the worst for me.

Usually the cheap China made mechanical keyboard are very hard to type. The only real high quality mechanical keyboards are very expensive. I will choose the Cherry MX red switches keyboard because the keys when I press down are very light and smooth. Lighter than membrane keyboards. I really don't like the feel of typing with a membrane keyboard because it feels like typing on a rubber switches. Also for the membrane keyboard, the pressure to press down the switches are heavier than a mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX red switches.

This is so biased it's funny lol. He didn't mention the feel, sound, and didn't compare a silent switch to a membrane which would have been a less biased comparison. Sometimes I like true peace and quiet and I hate messing with my folks while they're sleeping! Having tried a mechanical keyboard (blue switches), I found the key travel to be too much and I couldn't get used to it. Maybe a low-profile mech. keyboard would have suited my typing style better. Anyway, I ended up switching to a cheaper scissor-switch keyboard. There's just enough tactile response during activation, which I like. The key travel is just adequate, without being too shallow to deep.

Did something very similar to you. Had the HyperX FPS pro TKL (which was a great keyboard btw) and bought a Razer Cynosa V2. I think mechanical keyboards for gaming are a complete meme. as long as you have key roll over fixed which virtually all gaming branded membrane keyboards do (razer cynosa v2 has 10 key rollover for example) then they perform identically for gaming in my experience.
@Browncoatful
@Browncoatful 3 ай бұрын
You definitely can do gaming on a membrane but mechanical has its benefits with not having to press the key all the way down, better responsiveness, and longevity of the keyboard as one key going bad is fixable on a mechanical as compared to a membrane. Membrane has really just become the more super low-cost option

Call me crazy but membrane keyboards and scissor chiclet keyboards feel better to me then any mechanical keyboard out there. There's something about these boards that make me feel so comfortable to type and game in!!! I LOVE that give and squishiness that membrane keyboards have! That is the main reason why I like those since I am a heavy typer/key and button presser. Because of that squishiness i get confidence to play and type and on a mechanical I feel like Iwould break it haha.

You are not alone, also just keep in mind that MX cherry sponsors a TON of mech keyboard enthusiasts on YT to promote mechanical keyboards. Membrane can be good, in fact membrane was and still is most preferred keyboard for hardcore pro gamers, the short key travel is irreplicable on mechs.

So yesterday, I opened up keyboard for some reason because I was kinda stupid, and I wanted to be smart. ;( I took out all the screws, opened it all and saw the domes, 2 of the rubber dome things were lost, I then found it and put it at the enter and caps key since they can't be pressed into. Then after like 3 hours, I slept with it since it was like 4 AM and I was watching the TV when opening it up and all. Today...I moved a bit of the rubber thing, and it feels hella tactile, it went from a red feeling into brown keys of a membrane, so nice. Also, I realized this wires are not connected anymore. *Frick*

I have a mechanical keyboard and a membrane keyboard. I want to get the most out of everything so I will use the membrane keyboard until either the paint on the keycaps wear out (It is a normal logitech office black with white letter keyboard) or until the keys break. I enjoy using both keyboards however.

The first time I was using a computer was 30 years ago. It was a mechanical keyboards. Every single computer on the lab was mechanical keyboard those days. It was clutchy, clunky and as hard to type as typewriter, thick as brick... surefire to CTS and shoulder pain. I think the only good thing with mechanical keyboard back then was that you can build your finger muscles typing on those keyboards. The first time I used Logitech membrane keyboard... I feel like poking a pillow, it silent and soft. I fell in love right away with membrane keyboard. I can't fathom why people hates membrane keyboard so much these days.

For me I noticed when gaming with a membrane keyboard if I didn't push straight down on the keys ex: using WASD sometimes due to the friction against the sleeve the key would bind and not go all the way down. That is not a problem with my mechanical. Maybe because I had a cheap membrane version. Also I would just say that the keys strokes are sooooo much smoother and responsive on a mechanical. It does not make me better at typing but I enjoy it much more.

I get the same level of quietness using the Razer Huntsmen TE with the new Razer Phantom keycaps(relubed and 2mm foam install). There's no pinging from the stabilizers and the thock sounds just relatively close to the membrane keyboards without having the cheap mushy and scratchy feeling of membrane keyboards. My Razer Huntsmen TE is more quiet than the Cynosa's sound test in this video and it definitely doesn't have the same scratchy feeling and sound as the Cynosa that you can hear clearly in this video. If you still prefer membranes, you need to go with electro-capacitive membrane keyboard instead which is also a way better typing experience and definitely quieter than the cheaply build cynosa....

So I need some tips- I am trying to find a good keyboard, the steel series Apex 3 (membrane) the Hyperx alloy (cherry MX reds) or a razer Black widow chroma v2 (Razer greens) I personally do not care about sound or feeling as much. Which would you recommend?

I'd build my own. If you're using it for typing and gaming, really recommend Gateron Yellow for that just make sure to lube it. If you're using it for gaming, I'd recommend a tactile switch. Personally, Cherry MX switches is not for me.

the reason why your mechanical keyboard was so loud is that you have blue switches. Blue's are clicky switches. if you want something that is quite you need something like the cherry MX red silent switches or an equivalent from another brand
