Ren and Stimpy are homeless. When they see your house. They live in it
@vivimos_en_una_sociedad77582 ай бұрын
my headcanon was always that. since they are just hungry stray animals looking for food and shelter, as established in big house blues, who is to say that the reason they always have different houses isn't that they just break into people's home or whatever other shelter they may find (like the cow corpse) and just crash until they are no longer able to live there. either by owners coming back or whatever else.

John Kricfalusi and Bob Camp recalled Nickelodeon’s story editor, Mitchell Kriegman, complained about the characters not living in the same location. They explained how it’s like Looney Tunes or The Three Stooges: if the characters are strong enough, they can be put into any scenario.

In my opinion, I think what they’re going for is that every episode can exist in its own vacuum like Ren and Stimpy die in like 30 episodes

Like the Looney Tunes shorts, as it doesn’t have continuity either. It would be wrong to call them episodes, because there’s no continuity. “Commander Hoek and Cadet Stimpy” are allowed to be called episodes, because it’s a joke.

I like to imagine that those aren't actually their homes and they just break it when the original owners go on vacation or something. That's why they keep changing houses

Ren and Stimpy are more like Looney Tunes then anything. You just put them in any setting and the plot writes itself. Modern shows have this one set setting which gets stale very fast. Plus, I love the inconsistently of where they live, it's more of a running gag then anything.

I think I have a couple explanations: 1) Ren and Stimpy are squatters who move into whatever house they can find while the owners of the house are on vacation. (Dinner Party, Aloha Hoek) 2) Ren and Stimpy are orphans that get passed around to different pet owners. (Big House Blues, It's A Dog's Life)
@vivimos_en_una_sociedad77582 ай бұрын
I think both of those are quite possible by considering the fact that the pilot establishes them as stray animals.

I think it's a good idea to add more rooms to the Ren and Stimpy trailer, it would be like in Space Goofs, a house with several rooms and it will help to be more involved in the wacky universe of ren and stimpy

The reason why Ren & Stimpy kept and keep bouncing from house to house is because it’s all done for the gag, but it’s a throwback to the OG Classic Looney Tunes cartoons.

Having more homes is in my opinion actually more interesting, as it allows for more ideas

My favorite house for Ren and Stimpy is from "My Shiny Friend", in which the building looked like a giant television. Imagine if some of the most notable characters: Ren, Stimpy, Mr. Horse, George Liquor, and Wilbur Cobb all lived in that building, like they're living in a literal sitcom home.

I guess they were trying to pay homage to Looney Tunes with the houses constantly changing. I just keep thinking about how Bugs Bunny would pop out of holes in so many different locations.

Ren and Stimpy has to be the most inconsistent show in history. Even the picture quality is inconsistent. Some episodes look like they were made in the 2000s while other episodes look like they smeared vasciline on the camera lense.

Everybody's saying it's like Looney Toons, but this isn't Looney Toons. But even those had consistency, like the woods Elmer always hunts Bugs in, or Leghorn's farm. They may not have been particularly defined, but they were still there. Even in the later Looney toons we had some familiar locations. I agree with you, that was a large part of what was missed out on the show, and SpongeBob has such an inviting appeal to it that lets it have its own consistency, despite the randomness, because there IS some part of it that feels grounded.

I've always liked them having different homes. I will say that I wish they made some of rooms look more interesting. There are times whey add something to the rooms like a certain wallpaper or pictures on the wall. Or even making the homes look like trash. But outside of that, some rooms do look pretty bland.

Animation studios usually hate it when new locations need to be designed for every episode. But with all the other demanding shit during John K’s tenure, “inconsistent house” was not one of the things Nick objected to I guess. XD

I think it's rather silly to want a show like Ren and Stimpy to be consistent in its setting. You have shows like Spongebob for that. I personally like how each house is different. It makes it funnier how inconsistent it is. That time when they lived in a giant cow, but we never see it again in another episode, was weird, hilarious, out of nowhere, and fitting for the show's tone. You couldn't have something like that if the show was more consistent.

Ridiculously bad take lol. These characters and world are inconsistent and vintage, why not follow the traditions of old cartoons like Bugs being in a different environment in every short? I like your content but I occasionally wish you were slightly more educated on animation history because I feel like a retrospective series should be made by someone who truly understands R&S and not its superficial details like homes or title cards. Sorry if this came across as mean, I really do like your stuff.

Even the Looney Toons had the characters in familiar locations, such as the woods Elmer Fudd always goes to. The Looney Toons are a bit different because we have so many characters to build off of. With Ren and Stimpy it's largely just two.
