I completely understand your concerns about showing your daughter on KZfaq. I remember when we ran into each other at Villa Market and I felt like I already knew you a bit. Your worries are absolutely valid. The simple answer is to step back from social media. We live in a world that can be quite toxic, and it's hard to know who you're really dealing with online and especially face to face.

My daughter was introduced to a fish aquarium before the tv and her first word was ‘vish’. She still loves fish to this day and she will be 50 next year. TV was never her babysitter, we did car rides, park walks in the pram etc. no social media back then. My daughter’s friends all got mobiles as soon as they could but she refused but succumbed about 8 years later.

100% behind you, social media is the scorge of the would nasty horrible people making comments on your life, keep your life private I don't do any social media at all and I have no stupid people being a pain in the ass because they can't get to me. stay private is the only way for you and your family.

Hey, I know where you're coming from. My (Thai) wife has a YT channel with over 130,000 subscribers and the few times that our daughter has been on the channel, we have got comments that seemed inappropriate. One comment went something like, "I come to this channel for your thai food recipes not to watch 'day care' for your child". We learned to really minimize the amount of time our daughter gets into our videos. Also, let me tell you, the wife and I really love your casual lifestyle content, some of the best moments on your channel was watching you and maybell become proud parents. Lastly, with regard to screen time for our daughter, we never let her use a phone, tablet, or TV until she was around 3 years old. Around 3 years old, we started allowing her to view some educational style videos that help her learn colors, numbers, alphabet. We worked with her a lot, but also let her watch some cartoons as well. Now she is 4 years old, almost 5 and we do let her watch non-educational stuff. Mostly, she likes harry potter and Bluey and Bingo cartoon. But we limit the amount of screen time she can have. Good luck to you and the family in all things.

Hi Ritchie. In many ways I’m similar to you, have my own own business in Thailand, have a KZfaq channel and also have children. I made a conscious decision a long time ago to not feature my young children in any of my social media. Firstly was the security issue that you touched upon, about there being a lot of strange people online. Secondly, I just wanted my kids to have a choice whether they want their lives to be in public. I didn’t have a particularly good time as a child growing up and I’m glad that my life wasn’t on social media then as it wasn’t even invented! Do you remember that embarrassing time when Your family members would get out the photo albums and show them around when you’re relatives were visiting? It’s a similar feeling to that, only I’m more intimate one these days. Many people are quite surprised when they visit me in the bar that I even have children. Although I do refer to them quite a lot in the members area. I hope you, Maybelle and the youngster are all doing splendidly and hope to see you soon.

It did make me laugh when you said some people don’t like you. Continue to be yourself; you're one of the "good" guys! Truly good people know how to stay in their lanes. I am a 74+ year old first generation Chinese American living in Southern California USA; married for 48 years with 4 grown children. Times and people are a stark contrast to my generation. One group produces content about themselves in Thailand, the other is more private about their social life and produces content only about Thailand. Don’t blame you! My wife gave birth to our daughter this week in Hua Hin. She’s in the NICU for a bit as she came a little early. But in no event would I ever post images or vids of my daughter on any social media site that can be accessed by people I don’t personally know. Too many crazies out there and what is the benefit to your child really? There isn’t any. Only downsides for her. You’re also doing the right thing keeping her away from tv and social media. Doing the same with our daughter. I have a 2 year old niece who already can’t be separated from her phone. That’s never going to happen with our daughter. I also have the benefit of already raising a daughter who never had social media when she was young and is now a successful doctor in the U.S.

You are absolutely right, no one should ever show their children off on social media.

I often wonder about my own kids and their social media consumption. Will we all look back 20 years from now and be horrified that we all allowed kids to consume social media, and that social media will end up in a similar category to smoking, maybe not damaging physical health but certainly damaging mental health. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future all social media will be banned for under 18s, frankly speaking this generation coming through now were the first to grow up with social media, the whole thing is one big experiment and our kids are right in the middle of it. You think it’s bad now, wait till your child is 10+ years old and all their friends are on TikTok, the peer pressure is intense as if your child is the one left out then this causes its own set of problems. It’s a tough topic for parents this one.

As a father you know whats right for your family. As a mother id be the same. I never even let my daughter have things with her name on in case anyone approached her. Sad world we live in. I was enjoying how you and your family were blossoming. Dont people realise theres a unsubscribe button if they dont like your channel. Love your channel btw... We didn’t give our son his own phone till he was in high school, and still the internet consumes him! And he is studying at University now…crazy stuff in posted on sites nowadays!

Skip to 8 minutes… he literally says “ I won’t share pics of my daughter 25x” You can’t get those 8 minutes back.

As I’m about to become a father for the first time at older age like you Richie and coming up 13 years as a Correctional officer, good call about protecting Maisie and not putting her on social media, there’s to many predators on there, which I can attest to through my job and dealing with these predators with them locked up. As you said you’ve already had two people front you at the restaurant and many others with good intentions stop you and say they feel like they know you. So once Maisie is a little bit more grown up, people could say the same thing to her at the mall or coming home from school etc, if they see pictures of her growing up and it’s refreshing to see someone who wants to protect their daughter as there seems to be now days more and more vicariously living their lives through their children and pushing them on social media for clicks. How can anyone abuse Maybelle she comes across and a sweet caring person. As for the whinging about the real estate videos, here’s a thought your an adult, you can just not watch it and wait for the next video.

The fact is that your little one never could consent to her image being put in perpetuity on to the Internet. And so unfortunately the world is a place with a small percentage of very dangerous people. Children must be protected and some of that should include their right to privacy. Some people take this "familiarity" the wrong way. Stalkers are real.

The real reason you should not put your daughter on youtube is because she is not old enough to give you permission or make the decision herself to put her life on youtube

We had our son here in bangkok a month before you so I'm kinda in the same mind that phones will not be a part of my son's life until later. I choose to be a parent and feel it's lazy to let a phone babysit my son. You're doing the right thing. Anyone that says otherwise is lazy.
