Aputure has addressed the fan issue via firmware update, which you can perform with Sidus link over the air. It now has a constant fan speed option so you can process it out in post much more easily *if* it were to pollute your audio. This is one of the reasons I like Aputure. No other company has ever addressed an issue like this, that quickly. It took less than a week.

Can we get an update on the fan noise with the updated firmware? I understand that is has a constant option, but Aputure also mentioned that it is also a quieter sound with a “medium” speed. Is the new fan speed still too loud for you?
@tomdchi12
@tomdchi12 3 жыл бұрын
Any chance you could open one up and let us know if the fan itself is a standard size, and thus could be upgraded with something like a Noctua? Constant speed control helps obviously, but getting the fan itself (blades in the air, bearings, etc.) to be quieter could also help a lot. Better to make what's "on tape" better than say "oh, we'll fix it in post."

In Apurture's official marketing video debuting the Amaran line they advertise "silent fans". I love Apurture and their products but that seems like blatant false advertising. Unless all the review units circulating KZfaq are preproduction units that will be fixed for the public release.

Same sentiments here - that 200d is a nice light in a lot of ways, and great if you're working in a larger space and working with the light farther back, such as shooting through a scrim. But in a small space, that fan is too loud. I've heard about the planned firmware update which I assume will address the turning on and off behavior but will be interesting to see if it does anything more than that.

I want to add my voice to this sentiment. Thanks for being honest about the product. Aputure (deservedly) enjoys a lot of positive reviews, but it sometimes feels like the cons are being downplayed, and that the reviewers are serving Aputure more than their audience. Thanks for helping us make the most informed decision possible.

Hey Tommy, have you considered taking it apart and replacing the noisy fan with a Noctua fan and a manual fan controller? Maybe use a temperature probe to see what temp currently activates the fan, then set the fan controller to a constant RPM that keeps the light below that temperature. A constant RPM fan noise should be much easier to remove in post, and a Noctua fan should make much less noise.

I would probably go with the SE. it’s bigger. The SE is the only one I have of aputures domes. It’s now in my “key light” position, replacing my old larger Glow brand softbox which simply took up too much space. I won’t ever be disassembling or moving it, so it’s perfect for that use case.

After seeing several reviews of this light just wondering if Aputure will address this issue with the 200D. From my understanding a lot of reviewers received pre production products to review. Maybe the best point was made by Automatic Captioner - it wasn't able to detect the speech as English despite all that pro gear with microphone, boom, very close distance - and went with Vietnamese instead, creating a very garbled and humorous text. from Ted Sim on the facebook aputure user group : Hey everyone, I want to apologize for today's livestream. To make things right, we will post the Amaran launch film today and continue by recording our planned product presentation. This will premiere tomorrow at the same time, 12pm PST / 3pm EST on Friday, January 15th, 2021. We will have the entire Aputure team along with me on that stream to answer any questions that you might have. I would also like to announce our three biggest updates for the Amaran series: The choice is up to you. The fan updates have already gone into effect and can be updated wirelessly via Sidus Link. We will be announcing delivery dates for the 2-Bay Power Station shortly. The Standard Reflector is now available online via the Aputure website, and we are delivering this option to all of our dealers now. I am beyond excited about this release. Though I wish we could have shared this exact moment with the Aputure family, I want to thank everyone for tuning in and being passionate about lighting. It is an understatement to say that what we do would not be possible without the people in this group. We will see you at the same time tomorrow. Look forward to hanging out with everyone then.

Fans.....fans......fans........they're in everything now. I know that there's a RGBWW tube light thats coming on to the market soon that has a fan due to the whopping LUX output. Fo me (and i can't speak for everyone), but whats the point?? A soundie i work with described my Nanlite Forza 60's as 'a little too chatty' when i filmed with them a while back. That's not good. Whilst i like the whole COB revolution, the race to increase the output has superseded any sort of new noiseless cooling mechanism. Aputure's twin noise cancelling fans is as good as it gets at this moment in time. Even my Atomos Ninja V has a fan 😂😂😂
