I had the experience of staying and dining at IIT KGP, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kanpur, and IIT-Bombay and I can vouch for the fact the IIT-B hostel and mess are way ahead of others. May be 9/10.

Usually, the way in which the banana leaf must be placed in front of you before eating, has an orientation. Tradition says, the side of the banana leaf where we cut the leaf from the banana plant should come on the right side of the person eating. Not sure about other states but that's how it's done over here.

I visited IIT Bombay once, during inter IIT cultural meet. The food was totally bakwass. Even my college canteen served limited food with great taste. It was really a horrible experience. I manage to eat food nearby private canteen during the entire meet
