Railways as a mode to transport passengers over long distances is seriously a loss making exercise. Railways are profitable only when they transport goods to ports in shortest time. For long distance travel it must be only flights. Passenger trains over long distances are heavily subsidised in India.

#AskPT Why India chose standard gauge for bullet trains instead of broad gauge which could have been more flexible for our railways as bullet trains could have run on our normal tracks too (in future when normal tracks would be 200kph capable) ??

Discussed 100s of times bro. U cant run 320 kmph trains on grades here without fool proof fencing. Hence HSR was on std guage and on elevated rails. Anyhow 200 kmph and 320 kmph is vastly different

did you even watched the video? that is a tourist train not for commuter traffic, and it also comes under UNESCO World Heritage Site

We can plan similar narrow gauge or tram rail kind of sections in some new hill stations. Like ? Anantnag-Pehalgam, Budgam to Gulmarg, in Arunachal etc. this will be for tourist purposes only. Tourists like these trains and people throng to them. Such trains exists in Switzerland

not possible for already existing 70K km conventional tracks. new HSR are on std guage.
