He was such a brave person in the history of Assam as well as india but unfortunately he is not being famous in other parts of india.. Finally the rest of the country is recognising the absolutely brave heritage and fascinating history of Assam. Besides, Lachit Borphukan, there are many Assamese warriors and Queens and Kings that helped shaped modern Assam. Well as an Assamese I am absolutely proud. But the late historians in concern who wrote ncert stuff are mostly from North India especially Delhi based. They were really against British coz they saw the brutality with India getting new freedom. Also the Architecture near Delhi has many Mughal Architecture which really is magnificent. Hence I can see their biasness towards the Mughal. Also the less communication and knowledge about different regions during that era made it really hard. It's more like things produced mainstream in Delhi and people from different parts just read it. The knowledge gathered from one place flowing on outward direction but due to lack of communication and exploration, the knowledge didn't flow from outward to inward. Today after so many years of Independence Lachit Borphukon is only known when our CM celebrated him in DELHI. Mind you now we see India as a whole but when history was written was it the other way around? Whether the Delhi centre based historians had the privilege to learn about history from other parts of India? People used to fear coming to Northeast in that era calling us wild people Now this may answer many questions I guess why there's few for South Indian or Northeast history. East is still struggling but they recorded in them a lot, thanks to renowned people like Rabindra nath Tagore west bengal got attention but Orissa's history still ain't getting the attention coz they didn't pull it towards them. Just look at how much Rajputana is celebrated, privilege: being in the north but it's not true for Southern Kingdoms though they had such marvellous things too. Especially brave people. West just sighs in corner too like Konkani region.

North East history is a glorifying one. We see great cultural mixing and new and evovled ruling techniques . On one hand it was never recognised as History of India and on another , today lots of unsolved issues of NE. One burning issue is migration of bangladeshi , a gift from British when they invaded our lands , till that date who knows how many came . lower part of Assam , Barak region and Tripura( where local tribes are minority today) are some of there hotspot and in small proportion every where present.

@@sebastinesos What an absurd comment. They are in power because people already wanted them to make changes to India, they are already fucking convinced; they are not stipulated to ask thick heads like me or thin heads like you whether to enact a new education system or not. I can clearly heed that your mind lacks the matter responsible for rationality. Education system is the first step towards a country's development, this step doesn't demand a preceding certain condition of mass. 2,920 days are not enough to convince people that the country needs a new education system? Why are there still villages with no school then? Why are the government schools in BJP-ruled states worse than my toilet in terms of facilities? Why are your government's ministers building private school after closing government schools? What future do you expect from them?

Well said sir. I respect you but before 2014 you were also on the cabinet under the then congress government of Assam, you were also the then Education minister minister of state of Assam. Maybe these steps should have been taken at that time only, today i believe half of the population would know about Bir Lachit Borphukan, Maharaja Jashwant Singh.

He is right! I never saw anything related to mighty ahom kingdoms or the entire north east and great southern kingdoms in my history textbooks here in Delhi. Internet was still not available privately thosedays. All the textbooks I have ever seen in my school times only glorified muslim kingdoms of india, mughals & British rule only. What a shame!

It's not about the left or the right, liberal or conservative people, it's about who painted the bigger picture, we know about the cholas, we know about shivaji we know about guru govind singh, we don't know about lachit borphukan is cause he wasn't as prominent as aurangazeb. It's the same as knowing about churchill, stalin and roosevelt but not knowing about charles De Gaulle. We know about patton and mcarthur but we don't know about the generals of Canada or australia cause they weren't as prominent as those two. History is not erased but obscured, the prominent figures get more space in the books than the ones who were less prominent even if they were better than the prominent people.

Fyi our history textbooks discusses very less about Shivaji , chola and pandya etc . Only things they say is there was a king who ruled from this period to that period and finish. But when it comes about mughal then whole family is shown and every deeds are well mentioned (except the bad ones like how they destroyed the temples and how they converted and killed people who didn't convert) . And you said about prominency then tell me how prominent humayun , jahingir was ? Still the left historians mentioned them with great portrayal . And their curriculum is so designed that we are taught about mughals in higher so that we remember them . But they teach about our Indian kings in primary level with very little description . They give very little knowledge about vedic history and don't mention the accomplishments of Indians back then . Only thing they focus is cast system and try to depict hinduism is myth but they show great respect for Sufi saints and Islam but doesn't mention the how Sufis invited invaders to India to do jihad against kafirs ( Indians) . Any reader can feel how inferior indians are by reading the textbooks . And thats what so called left historians want . That's is also the reason why Indian Muslims want to connect themselves with Arabs etc . Because they think Arabs , Turks are great . But in reality their history were nothing Infront of Indian history . Indian was far civilised and developed then when the Turks and Arabs were hunter gatherers . And still if you think that it was all about prominency then congrats you are successfully mentally colonized .

@@ashieshsharmah1326 I heard since modi govt came into power back in 2014, schools have started teaching about cholas and shivaji, guru govind singh and sirajuddaula and they get as much space as the mughals in the books....... Wait facts saying that hindu loving the greatest patriotic party BJP and it's God level leaders haven't done that in 8 years...... OMG
