Asheville, North Carolina is more than just mountains and scenic views. We traveled to Mount Mitchell, Biltmore Estates, Looking Glass Falls, and explored the city of Asheville in one weekend!
Mount Mitchell State Park
Mount Mitchell’s dramatic summit is the highest point east of the Mississippi at 6,684 feet, and was the inspiration for one of the nation’s first state parks. The observation deck is easily accessible but it is a very steep uphill climb to get there. Super short to walk to, but lots of elevation.
Looking Glass Falls
Located along U.S. 276, Forest Heritage Scenic Byway, near Brevard in the Pisgah National Forest, Looking Glass Falls is one of the most popular and beautiful waterfalls in North Carolina. And it's perhaps the easiest to view (one of the few accessible roadside waterfalls). Being so easy to get to, this is one stop you'll want to get to early!
The name "Looking Glass" comes from Looking Glass Rock, where water freezes on its sides in the winter and then glistens in the sunlight like a mirror or looking glass.
The Biltmore Estate
Biltmore is America's largest home. The luxurious family home of George and Edith Vanderbilt, Biltmore is a 250-room French Renaissance chateau that includes 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, and 65 fireplaces. Adjacent to Biltmore House are 75 acres of formal and informal gardens designed by renowned American landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. The estate covers approximately 8,000 acres. And they make great ice cream too!
Downtown Asheville
There is so much life and wonderful art in downtown Asheville. Take a stop to explore all the history of Ashville through a walking tour of the Urban Trail. The Urban Trail is basically an outdoor museum all around town. The trail is about 1.5 miles from start to finish. Every station calls to mind a historical moment and, for the most part, the achievements of remarkable individuals connected to the city!

Riverside Arts District and Murals
In West Asheville resides the Riverside Arts District. Here, you find a good place to start on the hunt for murals, great breweries (more on that next video *hint), and amazing art created by locals. We love finding murals, and Asheville has some of the best we've come across!

Black bears are apparently active this time right before hibernating. We weren't fortunate to see any though. If you like pizza def head to Asheville Brewing Company!

Thank you! We had a great time there! Definitely grab pizza from Asheville pizza and brewing! If you go outside of town a little bit the waterfalls are great, but sliding rock is a blast. We didn't have a chance to film it this go around but it's basically a giant nature made slip n slide

Yeah we need to make another trip just finding all the waterfalls because they're so awesome. We missed out on doing sliding rock. That one looks so fun!

I've always seen videos and photos with these kinds of shots and I was like I want to try that! Clouds rolled right down the mountain and were super low so it was the perfect opportunity.

Hey guys, you captured the Asheville area beautifully. We agree that it is a unique destination. We missed Biltmore and the murals on our previous trips so I really enjoyed seeing that footage of your experience!

Thank you! It's a lot to fit into a weekend. We're going to do a beer and food tour next and then post a trip to the Mountain Coaster. Biltmore tickets can be pricey! Tony gets discounts on a lot of things and has a free national parks pass so we can fit more things into a trip without worrying too much about cost

Omg! We had no idea where to even begin. We tried to stick with a few of the original breweries. Beer and food are probably the two things were least budget friendly with. It's never pricey, we just eat and drink a lot 😅

Thank you! We currently reside in Norfolk so we got to do a lot of videos focusing on this area since we couldn't travel far from home for awhile. We had a small window at looking glass. It started raining the first time we tried to go and so we decided to spot by again on our way home. Trust we definitely have that on our list for next time. It looks like so much fun!

@The Detour Duo Awesome. We went to Ashville in 2020 definitely trying to go back this summer! Soke ideas for next tine you guys go......Hiking the fire lookout tower was very cool to it's about 30 mins from looking glass. There is that really need outdoor church in SC "pretty place" not too far as well. Definitely want to tube the river next time in town! New Belgium, wicked weed, and seirra Nevada brewerys are a must! Looking forward to more videos from you two!

Ha! Perfect “tourists” praising Asheville. Unfortunately many who move here get tired of the tourist vibe…and the homeless and the drug addicts begging at intersections and the crime and high cost of living for a small southern city. But hey, thanks for being 2 among the 9,000,000 annual tourists!

@@TheDetourDuo we did looking glass falls and sliding rock, we ate downtown a few times (white duck tacos, Mayfel’s, and Sunny Point Cafe), did some white water rafting on the French Broad River, a little bit of everything. We stayed out in Old Fort in a cabin which was super nice! -S

Same. I had the 8 and never used it. Footage always looked crappy. Got the 9 on a whim so I can shoot pov with the lens mod and I've been really liking the footage from it.
