BMC64 is a bare metal fork of VICE's C64 emulator optimized for the Raspberry Pi, all that fitted inside of the C64 breadbin case.

Thank You :) I don't remember where I got those stands, they are some rubber stands that I had in my stack. Any type of stand can do here, they are just glued to the case.

Hi. I have a Speedlink Competition Pro Extra but for some reason I can't seem to get BMC64 to recognise it. Has anyone else managed to get it working?

It should be possible to setup USB joystick; have You tried on a regular PC with VICE? (sorry for my late replay)

Thanks for asking, not all parts were bought at the same time but here are the approximate prices: PCB - 35$ (pcbway) Raspberry PI 3 - 30$ (localy) Ribbon cable - 7$ (ebay) Power switch - 9$ (ebay, not arrived yet so it is not a part of this build) DB9 connectors,male - 3$ (ebay)

To my knowledge BMC64 doesn't provide network connectivity where has Combian64 does and runs on the same hardware.

BMC64 is based on VICE and I never tried to check network connectivity, maybe it can be done in some way, need to check that. Thank You :)

I was thinking about buying a C64 but as they are not connectable directly to modern monitors this seems to be a good compromise.

Yes, this is the cheapest way that I know of, but also there is Ultimate 64 and some other products based on FPGA technology. In addition, there are ways to connect Commodore 64 to a modern tv using video converters. (Composite to VGA/HDMI)

Yes it can save games and there is virtual REU as well and it's cheaper too. But, of course maxi is better machine 😀👍

Got my original Vic20. Your build looks easy but getting all the coding right makes my head hurt, don't think I could handle it.

You Can't call BBSs With this, Combian64 and retropie allow you to emulate a modem

and Combian64 works with every usb joystick, while BMC64 does not.

There are options to use it with USB joystick, but, can't be sure that will work with all of them, there could be exceptions :)

Yeah, few frames of input lag is so great! Much better than 0 frames of input lag!

You are right, nothing can replace the original, but this is just a different perspective and different use case :)
