@@dparag14 What's worse, their collaboration pieces for fashion brands such as Armani, Michael Kors, Diesel, etc. Are also of as bad of a quality. When I had no idea and dropped my Emporio Armani Meccanico automatic, it broke at the first drop in 2017. Tried bringing it in for a repair after one year but apparently a drop is not covered in warranty. Tried getting it repaired where I bought it and they said the watch isn't even worth it fixing even just after one year. That said a lot to me. Many other brand like a Seiko 5 would have survived a drop from a desk and/or would still hold enough value to be worth it to be repaired. Compared to a Citizen eco-drive that my dad bought me in 2008, the Citizen is still running strong on the original battery (even in 2022). Even at a macro level, you can see citizens have better quality from the dial, alignment, and bezel to the quality of the hands altogether. My second Citizen with sapphire crystal even has 0 scratches on the crystal, just the bangs on the bezel. I could even re-zero the second, minute, hour and all function hands myself so that alignment is perfect (quartz watches suffer from backlash resulting in second hand misalignment). You really get what you pay for and he summed it up real well at 8:30, people just subconsciously trying to convince themselves that they got a good deal and that they got a good investment. I was under that impression until that Emporio Armani watch of mine broke.

Most of them are way too big for my wrist and too loud for my style, but Fossil knows how to give many people what they want where others fail. I have had this model since 2010 and it's still working. The battery lasts about 2 years and I replaced the battery about 6 times now. I got the watch's lifetime battery replacement for free at the dealer in my area as it was a part of the deal. Can't deny that I love the design but I agree with the flaws especially the questionable case material but durability is a part of the quality game. And it is durable as a watch, the strap not.

I have the black version of this watch. It's been with me through thick and thin. I've put multiple watch faces on the band over 3 years. It's held up remarkably well. Gets more comfortable and looks better over time. Tiny amount of discoloration along the crease lines adjacent to the adjustment holes - but nowhere else. Not noticeable or bothersome to me. I wash it gently once a year and it comes out like new. If you like this style of band it's definitely worth the money. That said, Fossil does sell a very similar band without the watch, which might be a better option since the coachman itself is really not that good. My favorite watch with the black version of this band is the Fossil Decker.

Sometime around 2002 I bought a Fossil watch and ended up having it for almost twelve years. It was a great watch that never gave me any problems until it just died. I ended up taking it to a jeweler to see if there was any hope, and they told me the cost to fix it wasn't worth it. So, I went out to buy another Fossil hoping for the same quality. It only lasted me a few months before it died and even though the glass was mineral, it became easily scratched. Jump forward to a couple of years ago, and I checked out the watch above. It looked great online, but when I checked it out in the store, it was obvious that it was an inferior product. I consider my Timex Weekender to be a far superior watch. My dad was a landscaper for over forty years and never once had a problem with the Timex watches he owned, and always told me they were a watch that never let anybody down with always plenty of wear and tear.

@snowmean1
@snowmean1 3 жыл бұрын
Considering this isn't sapphire I might only wish a good luck with replacing it after awhile. That's the main idea behind why major watchmakers don't usually integrate crystal into bezel/case. I replaced mineral crystal to sapphire on my Orient Ray II for ~A$25 myself (that's the main reason why I think Kamasu is slightly overrated over Ray\Mako). And that's a once in a lifetime modification for this watch, as I believe that servicing mechanical Orient movement will cost you more than a new watch, which makes them disposable in ~10-15 years, and sapphire can easily survive that period with no issues.

I have a Fossil watch of a similar design to the one in the review but an earlier model from about 12 years ago. It's built reasonably well, certainly better than the one in the review, everything lines up, the second hand hits the marks perfectly etc. It's still going strong with just a battery change and runs consistently at +0.1 a day, the only other analogue quartz watch I have that can manage that accuracy is a Seiko Flighty. The strap gave up on it years ago and I now use it as a beater on a nato. I think it has a no-jewel Japan S11 VD53B movement in it. If I was in the market for something like this now I'd certainly think twice about buying. OK mine was never the best watch in the world but it was a damn sight better than the junk they seem to be making nowadays.

I have a number of Fossil watches, and personally Ive only had good experiences. A couple watches that are clearly designed to be more for the sake of durability for things like rock climbing, hiking, ect. that you can really rough up and not worry about them petering out in a couple months. Where as the couple that I have or more so "fashion" watches, for that general price range are really quite nice for casual but sleek wear. It is a brand that I would stand by myself based on my own experiences, though in this instance you have shown what carelessness in construct can produce. I genuinely thought you were showing off a cheap knock off, until you made of a point of it being authentic. If nothing else I thank you for making me see that I will need to be careful in selecting should I ever decide to add more Fossils to my collection. I would say you should consider revisiting this brand in the future, as I do agree in you statement of people convincing themselves that this specific watch is a good one when it is clearly not, but I know that there are much better watches in the brand for a much more fair price that are worth showcasing! Thanks for the videos, it was a good one!

I love your descriptive abilities. I don't even have to hold this in my hand. I know exactly what you are looking at, through your well placed words. Your in-depth reviews are excellent. I'd like to hear your opinion on Casio's Wave Ceptor range some time (might make a good video!). I've had a "WVQ-550" since 2007 and it has become my favourite possession. I'm (clearly) not a watch guy but although it's big and heavy, it is practically indestructible with its flat sapphire front, solid steel links, and you can even re-calibrate the hands if they go out of alignment (after the watch has been bashed hard usually). Mine has only one very tiny scratch on the glass after almost 14 years of daily use. Awesome watch for the price, which was around £140 at the time if I recall correctly. Keep up the good work.

I’m amazed at the low quality. I have an older version of this watch (but the blue version) and it’s clear that the quality has significantly dropped since I got mine. The strap looks so much cheaper than the one on mine (different buckle too). Looking at my watch under macro, the sub dials are definitely inset rather than applied, and I don’t have the misalignment issues on mine. Seems like most of the positive reviews are for the older version; it’s sad when standards are dropped.

I have had two Fossil Watches and have been pleased by both. However, I have only had mechanical Fossil Watches. I had an unknown model skeleton hand winder I got in about 1991 and had it for more than 10 years and sold it for about what I originally paid - which was interesting. I now have a Fossil Arkitekt 4110 with a Miyota 8000 series automatic movement. I really like the look, build quality is good finishing is a bit underwhelming but design is unique.

Uncool. The biggest detractor for me about this watch is that the chronograph seconds hand is on the subdial, with the running seconds on the main hand. The fact that it also has a tachymeter on the chapter ring makes this choice even more frustrating. One of my biggest pet peeves are additions that look functional but are purely for decoration (e.g. subdials that are printed on but don't do anything). You can get a Timex Weekender Chronograph for less than $50 and it is actually a good quartz chronograph.

This is what happens when you have a prejudice even before using the watch. Negatives always cover the positives. Fossil is my first watch that I have been using from roughly over 6 months, and I have no complaints what so ever. It's bulky feel makes me feel like sporting a premium watch rather than small, lean, light weight cheap watches. It makes you feel its presence on your hand.

Here in the U.S. Fossil is one of those watches that sell for under $80. Normally in the $50-60 range at retail. Their other similar brand, Relic, also go for around the same price. They're not meant to be high end as their customer base are those buying Timex and Casio. The founder who now runs Shinola no longer really has much of a stake in Fossil, but the earlier watches from the 90s-early 2000s had better designs. Some even had Swiss movements. They've gotten lazy over the years...I don't own any but for the price I think it's decent.

I bought a Fossil Blue back in 1999. It was my first “nice” watch I had ever bought for myself. Wore it for two decades before it finally gave up and the movement broke. I’ve got another Fossil Blue my ex wife( girlfriend at the time) bought me for Christmas, and that one is still going. I think their QC fell apart through the decades and the rise of the Apple Watch forced them to cheap out even more to stay afloat. But that first watch still hold a special place in my heart because it started me on my watch journey and I have a collection of Omegas and Longines now because of it.

Since you're asking about what other Fossil watches people have enjoyed, I own the one that was just to the right of this one, the blue chronograph with the blue lugs. It was the first watch I bought as an adult, after I saw a colleague wearing the same one and finding the color combination, and interesting "cut out" style around the chrono dials quite interesting. It is now easily the "cheapest" watch I own, but I still enjoy the look of it. Also, while I will say it has a couple of the same issues (the quality of leather on the strap, and the second hand being a little hit-or-miss) but it's not nearly as thick and bulky, the crown doesn't have this sort of "free spin" to it, and I find actually feels quite nice on wrist. I've also had more people notice and compliment it than any other watch in my collection, save for one (my Seiko Cocktail Time 'Negroni'.) I do think there's something to be said for the general public not knowing anything about watches and thus over-valuing these based just on the look, but at the same time, I spent somewhere around $75 US for mine, and I've had more than one friend tell me that's "way too much to spend on a watch" so clearly they're not going to be connoisseurs.

Hey Ben, I'm a proud owner of a strawberry red Fossil Forrester! It's obviously a cheap watch, the level of finish is basically what you described. But I enjoy the smart proportions and the trench watch dial (which is very unique in red). The Forrester I got comes with a silicon strap which is quite comfortable, and won't fall into crumbs like cheap leather. It's a real shame that you reviewed the chunkiest and ugliest Fossil watch. Fossil makes better looking watches on the smaller side. I like the Archival, Forrester, FB-01 and Copeland to name a few.

This was the first watch I have ever purchased, and it was way back in 2010, reference CH2565. It featured a silver sunburst dial with grey accents and wood textures in the chronograph and on the tachymeter. I paid around 100€ for it and I was generally amazed by the watch. The package also was much better than what you have shown, and the indicies had really been well made. Back then, I had no idea about watches, and just thought it looked Cool. The packaging was also way better, I received the same box with the foam inside like you get from e.g. G-Shocks. The leather worn out and began to stink if you wore it often, had to be replaced 5 times because it would just be falling apart. Looks like Fossil have gone down in quality over the years. I still have the watch, but the chronograph seconds stop at 45 and won't continue to 60, and the stainless steel stains like it's plastic. Wouldn't recommend this watch, but this eas my first contact with watches. Nowadays I wouldn't recommend anyone get a Fossil watch because why would you so that if there's Swatch, Orient, Casio, Seiko, or Citizen?

I’m going to be annoying here but I believe the cognitive bias you’re looking for is ‘Choice-supportive’ bias or ‘post-purchase rationalization.’ ‘Fallacy of sunk costs’ would perhaps apply to someone who buys a relatively expensive vintage watch then spends more than what its worth servicing it; doubling down bc of an initial poor decision followed by a “i’ve already ‘invested’ in it, so I should see it through.’The difference is slight. Regardless, a very fascinating angle to bring consumer psychology in for a review 👍 i’m starting to expect more than a stat sheet form this channel. very good work

I mostly just wanted to point out that while it had a 5 star rating on Amazon, on Fossil's actual website (which i think is better to use instead of Amazon), it only had a rating of 3.4. I know Amazon is good for deals, but i feel when it comes to watches it might be best to buy directly from the brand website itself. The quality and realiability of these watches is pretty bad (or at least this is what I experienced), but some of their designs are nice. I have the Decker, which streaks a nice resemblance with the Speedmaster (I got lucky, since at the time I recieved it I didn't even know what a Speedmaster was), and for 100-120 euros there's not so many chronographs with a cooler design. Still, wouldn't buy one today, with my own money... there's so much better on the market if you look around.
