Strange premise... If that's true, why do men that transition to women grow long hair, do their makeup and get breast implants to enhance feminine features? To pass as a typical woman right? Would that not be proving that gender/sex has an inherent relationship in majority of cases? It's a complex argument but I don't think your point is that clear cut... Maybe from a far left ideology, but the overwhelming majority of the population wouldn't buy it, I assume.

humans are designed to recognize the sex of strangers and we are remarkably good at it! It's statistically quite rare for humans to make a mistake but when it does happen, it still does not change the sex of the person being observed. As far as "gender" (what a person wears or how they behave), that also does not change the sex of the person being observed so, there's really no evolutionary or cultural advantage to guessing how a stranger feels about their biological sex.

@@JamesTKirks they said Xtians as in Christians, not XTrans. they're also not correct in saying we think people can be multiple things, as the only people to have multiple identities are people with DID and other related conditions, but the point still stands that it's not consistent for Christians to think you can't ever be more than whatever form you take. seeing as they (or some of them at least) believe in a being which is capable of being simultaneously mortal and immortal, physical and immaterial, these are beliefs which immediately contradict with their own understanding of the world. it then gets justified as "well God is my OC so he's the only one allowed to do it, it's bad or untrue if anyone else says so", which is special pleading to an absurd degree. if you legitimately want to understand the difference between sex and gender I'd be more than happy to explain, but that's only if you're willing to listen and engage in good faith.

Its nice to see someone getting it right. I was a GLBT activist for years and studied this topic. I will add that the term transgender is actually a political term coined in the late 80's by an org called Transsexual Menace to gather a wide community into a voting block. Fact is TG encompasses transsexual, cross dressers, transvestitism, intersexed, and other gender expression types. The public doesn't understand there are important differences between groups. The political attacks on the "TG" community are based on the false model of the man in a dress. The crimes they imagine never happen.

There is no such thing as people who "are trans". When you say someone "is X" you are saying X is their essence. However, actions cannot be an essence. Actions are something you choose and essences are something that, by definition, you have not chosen. So it is illogical to say people "are trans". That would be like saying people who are dieting "are diet." There are only people who have chosen to engage in the act of "transitioning" -- a euphemism for using a range of means to embody stereotypes about the opposite sex.

more or less. sex is the biological construct, gender is the social one. we behave in certain ways because we have certain "oughts" about these ideas, but the behaviors and "oughts" change from person to person, community to community, and culture to culture because they're subjective. nothing about having certain hormones or chromosomes fundamentally changes a person's ability to comprehend and realize gender.

No it can't be.. because they said gender is just a social construct so there is no way a woman or a man acts.. meaning somebody with XY chromosomes and a penis who identifies as a woman can have a mustache a beard race cars fix cars. Drink beers with his buddy watching the game. Hate shopping. And still be a transgender woman. And another person with XY chromosomes and a penis who also identifies as a woman can love hanging out with women and gossiping and going shopping and getting the nails done and both would be considered transgender women under that belief system. So the only qualification to be a transgender woman or transgender man is to say the words that you are. If I'm wrong please by all means anybody can correct to me and tell me why. There are 3 Genders you can be born as ( Male, Female, or Hermaphrodite) 4. Homosexual means sex with the same Gender (Homo-Same Sexual-intimate Physical attraction) meaning Intimately attracted to the same (gender) 5. Gender Is NOT a social construct SEX is a social construct because it takes 2 or more people. You would be your gender even if no one else was alive. You wouldn’t be sexual at all. 6. *Hot Take* you can’t change genders like you can’t change species. No matter how many surgeries you get you can’t become a cat or a dog. It just doesn’t work like that. You can change your appearance, sexual preference and name but you Cannot change the record book. The gender assigned at birth is your gender. Please don’t label people as “ anti this “ or “phobia” that. There should be a place for honest discussion without hate or prejudice. It’s like you’re labeling people while yelling “don’t label me”. I am a well educated strong black man, I have no religion, I am not an atheist, what I am is ashamed of how low the state of our education has fallen. “Love whoever loves you back”is my motto , my argument is purely about the science. Example: “ Superman wears a red cape” is both “True” and a “fact” but still has no effect on reality. A lot of your “Truths” and “Facts” are irrelevant and can only be used within a certain arbitrary situation. They only exist in your head. Society might agree that gender is fluid but that doesn’t mean it’s correct. Society also sniffed coke and owned slaves… was that right when society deemed these things to be socially accepted? Do you think they’re more smart people or dumb people in the world? Dumb right? Well that means the majority of the population is dumb and just because the majority believe it doesn’t make it right, true, a fact nor real. The only true science is applied sciences. there’s a huge difference between applied science and theoretical science. I apologize if this hurt your feelings. It truly wasn’t my intention

So the founding fathers didn't wear wigs because they felt feminine or wanted to be women they wore it's because that was the norm for men at that time maybe it was the norm for men with wealth and or power maybe it was a norm for all men I don't know but there's no evidence of them wearing it because they thought they were women and or wanted to be feminine. sex is bimodal, not binary. most people appear to be mostly perfectly male or female, but there are individuals inside and outside the goalposts (hypermasculine and hyperfeminine people, as well as any intersexes). as for gender, it is subjective, but the rational way to make up for this is by structuring words based on their utility. the reason we use the words man and woman is because their definitions provide us the most utility to describe the genders that people identify with. even if you believe sex is binary, there are still societal stereotypes and ideas of men and women not being "enough" of a man/woman, which gives further credence to the idea that gender is an applicable, useful social construct. of course not all people fall into those categories, so we borrow or create words to describe those differences, be it trans, non-binary, two-spirit, or whatever else.

This really isn't convincing me. I feel like Forrest is really smart but gender is the one thing he just goes straight to emotion rather than logic on. Every time he gives a definition of it, it boils down to being nothing. "It's a social construct, it's always changing." So, this is basically all just meaningless titles, right? No different from astrology. Gender is not a thing. And the idea of pressuring people into certain roles based on their sex or this nonexistent gender is nonsense and needs to stop. I think the concept of transgenderism (I know some people don't like that term but I don't know what else to use) is holding back our society because all it does is reinforce pointless norms that are based on nothing observable. You can just be who you want to be, you don't need to slap a meaningless title on yourself to get there. Especially when the titles use the exact same terms we use for sex. Why the extra steps?

it's meaningless in the sense that it isn't a physical object and is instead an abstract concept, but that doesn't mean it's literally useless. it's really funny that you think "transgenderism" is holding us back (the correct phrasing is "being trans" by the way) when you seem to not understand that the concept of gender itself has played a major role in shaping societies for literal centuries if not millennia.

@secutorprimus
@secutorprimus 17 күн бұрын
You are confused on what constitutes emotion, and what constitutes logic, unfortunately. Gender is, ultimately, nothing. It *is* entirely what we have constructed, socially. The reason the titles align, as you've said, is *because* we've prescribed the social expectations to tie in with an archaic conception of biology in the past, which is preserved in how we describe the world through language; it would be irrational to hold gender to necessarily align with sex based on such reasoning, because it is ultimately circular, based on an unfounded assumption of its own premises. "Binary, biologically derived gender" is able to be understood as a prescription, precisely *because* it does not hold to be true, nor reliable, with the understanding that we today possess (alongside various historical cultures). Therefore, in a culture that retains our restrictive conceptions of these categories ("male", "female", "man", "woman"), the only way to actually fix this archaic imposition is to decouple the association between sex and gender, which necessitates "transgenderism", as you put it. Rather than holding society back from some genderless utopia, it is the natural step towards it, as we decouple social prescription from our outdated notions of biological essentialism. Gender *isn't* observable, and was never observable, even before transgender people gained in prominence over the last century. We were only deluded into thinking that it was simple and observable, *by* our cultural enforcement of a strict binary, and of the idea that sex and gender are intrinsically linked. You seem to want, yourself, possibly to lean into this unlabeled freedom. "Be who you want to be, don't slap a meaningless title onto it"; I think that's wonderful, and you should pursue that, should it make you happy :]

@@Tommygun1998I didn't offer any serious defense of gender because I wasn't under the impression that you're coming at this with good faith. gender isn't "just restricting people into boxes", it's giving people words for things they couldn't explain beforehand. if you genuinely feel trapped by gender, that needs to be something you talk about with a person you trust or a therapist, not what you shadowbox in a KZfaq comment section. and to lay it to rest, "transgenderism" is a term used by the transphobes to scare people out of letting others identify in ways they don't understand or agree with. there is no such thing as real transgenderism, if you happen to realize that you're trans or whatever then that's all you did, and if you realize later that you're not then that's fine too. no one is forcing anyone else to be trans, which is why I take such issue with the term.

This doesn’t mean hate people, oppress people, etc. but when 90% (number is hard to nail down) of people agree with the traditional format of their “gender” and what physical characteristics they have at birth, it’s an anomaly by definition.

"the concept of “gender roles” as we know them really only came about 50 years ago" Yeah... only if your historical knowledge goes about 50 years back. "Any condition in which there is a disconnect between the perceptions of the brain and reality is simply a dissociative disorder." So, if you don't accept the reality of people being trans, that means that you are delusional? Somewhat harsh, I would say that those people are ignorant, but hey, if you think that. "but when 90% (number is hard to nail down) of people agree with the traditional format of their “gender” and what physical characteristics they have at birth" Again, you seem to be really small minded: Our western view of gender, is actually the minority! The idea that gender is a social construct comes from a study by John Money and Davide Reimer. The protocols of this study are viewed by many people are very unethical. David Reimer was a very troubled man and committed suicide. Gnosticism also plays a part in this ideology. Gender is grammar, masculine and feminine. A man that has feminine characteristics is still a man and a female that has masculine characteristics is still a female We know the sex of somebody by anatomical structure. Because you don't understand biology. Biology simply "is" - it doesn't have any intent. Our sex is an overall norm that is fluid as well because there are very few actual physiological differences that define a sex-based difference; it is all about biological function and biology doesn't care if that gets called "male", "female", "potato" or "flabbelskabbel" - biology simply is. So when our brains have the same biological signals but get messed up when they align themselves differently to societal norms, that's when someone is trans. This is why gender is a societal social construct loosely based on neurochemistry as it aligns itself with a perceived norm that has psychological impacts derived from neurochemistry, overall biochemistry, and how societal norms affect us both from a physical and psychological perspective. Safe to say ... anyone who claims that the science behind this is on par with "third-grade biology" doesn't understand a thing that they are talking about. People are trying to correct things because people are people, we want to live our own lives and feel comfortable in our own bodies. In no other field of medicine this is questioned, but because people listen to politicians trying to scare people ... trans people get treated differently and unfairly. Just let people be people; one doesn't need to understand the insanely complicated science if one opts for that mantra instead.

A few critiques 1:05 Suddenly the word "transgenderism" is offensive? 1:33 Every English dictionary and thesaurus indicate that gender and sex are synonyms, and have done so for centuries 2:01 The social construct in question is called a "gender role" 2:11 Interesting to note, most cultures only acknowledge two genders 3:07 Gender/sex is binary. 3:49 Gender dysphoria is not social 4:52 "Distinction" Male is part of the definition of man and female is part of the definition of woman 5:21 - 5:32 Seriously? 6:55 "Inclusive" You understand that gender/sex is exclusionary, right? 8:17 But that is biologically incorrect 9:34 The exact percentage or number is irrelevant. Intersex is not an additional sex 11:23 That definition does not make sense if you assert that gender is socially constructed You have essentially made up a neo-language to confuse people into agreeing with you. A few critiques on your few critiques 1. Taken out of context, and also not what he said. 2. Words have more than 1 meaning, and usage changes over centuries. 3. When you embody a gender role, that is your gender. 4. Not even sex is binary. There are binary gametes, but humans are not their gametes, and there are people who are unable to produce and, and others who produce both, meaning that if this is used as the definition, there MUST be at least 4. Gender is even less binary - there are even existing cultures and languages where there are more than 2 genders. 5. He didn't say that gender dysphoria is social. Not even close. 6. See 2. 7. See 2, 3 and 4. 8. Only for people who are using it in an exclusionary manner. 9. No, it isn't, because "gender" isn't talking about the "biology". 10. Try defining "sex" in a way that includes ALL people, including ALL interested in ONLY 2 buckets. You WILL fail. Go on, try. 11. People have an INTERNAL, underlying gender, formed by the effect of hormones on fetal brain development, that draws them to embody the _socially constructed,_ EXTERNALLY represented gender roles of the society that they are in. It is a little confusing when it is new. It becomes MORE confusing when you refuse to listen or learn. Please try listening with an open mind.

@@BlarglemanTheSkeptic2 1. He literally said the term was "bullshit" and then ordered (sorry, I should probably say "encouraged") him not to use it. How am I supposed to take that? (I also have a sneaking suspicion I know why he does not like the term.) 2. The vast majority of English-speaking civilization use them as synonyms. You do not even have a functional definition of what gender is in this context. Usage does not change like that. 3. Since you do not have a functional definition for gender, this is invalid and not how gender works anyway. 4. This was debunked years ago. Just because people like yourself keep saying this does not mean that it was not debunked. So, binary gametes = binary sexes/genders. "...humans are not their gametes..." Well, every human was made when two gametes joined together. So on top of being a strange thing that I did not say, it is also technically incorrect. I am aware of people who are unable to produce gametes, like prepubescent boys and postmenopausal women. No individual person has EVER produced both, and it would not be an additional sex even if it did happen. You do not seem to know what sex means in general. Sex is binary. Gender is sex. So, by the transitive property, gender is binary. "...languages where there are more than two genders." I know. We are using one right now. English has four genders. But now you are conflating the grammatical definition with...whatever it is you think gender is. Also the thing about other cultures is a myth. 5. I did not say he said that. But gender dysphoria is the root of the problem. He said gender is social, but gender dysphoria is mental. It is a profound dissatisfaction with one's gender. How can one be dysphoric about a social construct? 6. Debunked 7. Debunked, debunked, and debunked 8. Apparently you do not understand why gender/sex is exclusionary. 9. As I established earlier, gender is biological. Thus, those statements are biologically incorrect. And that is okay because of freedom of speech. 10. Either of two categories, each denoting a prospective role in anisogamous reproduction. Or you could open up a dictionary. I am confident that you do not have a better one. 11. You say gender is internal, Forrest says it is social. You call the social construct "gender role" while Forrest just calls it "gender". You need to get your definitions in order. I just defined sex for you. Can you define gender for me? I have given no indication that I am confused about anything. @@ronwhitehouse23 I never said you're not allowed to do it, Ron, I just think it makes you look like a manchild. also funny how you say you don't like name calling after mentioning freedom of speech. just 'cause you don't like it doesn't mean it ain't true.

so you think entire genders are harmful?! or are you just another mindless fool who drools on while Fox News runs in the background and parrots all their talking points? turns out your "anorexic" child is anorexic because you refuse to feed them properly cooked food and they're tired of getting sick. you wonder why they'd want to eat at tables being served by people who actually know how to cook, then get mad at others for you yourself refusing to learn the culinary basics. do you see how this might cause a vicious cycle where others are constantly more equipped than you and yet you continue to dig your heels in deeper?

Wow... Just 🤦 Anorexia is a *_pathological_** thought pattern* that leads to "unlife". The ONLY effective treatment is to break the pattern of thought. Transgenderism is caused by the underlying structures of the brain, as formed in the womb, and is harmful to people with it _when fighting against it,_ (and is significantly exacerbated by people like YOU). The ONLY treatment is to ACCEPT and EMBRACE the status was part of the person. *That is, one is harmful when it EXISTS, and the other is harmful when DENIED. They are OPPOSITE in almost every aspect.*
