I think Jerrod is trying to have an important conversation on this show about acceptance, intersectionality, black family dynamics, etc. However all of that is overshadowed with the publicity stunts... it's hard to take you seriously when you suckin on feet and running around in your underwear. You either going to give us a clean glass of water or not. You can't have it both ways.

I think Jarrod is having a tantrum because of his insecurities surrounding his mother not accepting his sexuality. For a moment I felt a little sorry for him. His mother’s acceptance seems to mean everything. The conversation with his dad and showing the ‘picture’ was to shock him. This young man is a tragedy waiting to happen

On some level it probably is therapeutic for him. I can not be in judgement of this brother. He has a lot he is feeling and needs to be heard. Like most of us he came from a dysfunctional family and shows his feelings. As you can see all of his feelings. He has discarded the mask, attempting to look at himself and find deeper meaning.

I liked the irony of him blasting his Dad in Rothaniel, only for him to be aggressively cheating on his boyfriend and lying about it in therapy. He is deeply flawed and misguided and more like his father than he would care to admit. While the toe sucking is a turn off, the show does illuminate couples therapy, gay interracial relationships, and how to heal from childhood wounds.

☺ i knew that voice singing after the 2nd word of that song being sung by none other than @chescaleigh (Franchesca Ramsey) she's amazing talented & an educated well read sistah who's been on YT for abt 10 yrs (that i been following her). got her SAG card & was a cast regular on NBC's "Cloud 9" sitcom but due to Covid-19 Pandemic, production was folded. I think what this may be uncovering to some is that although ALL lifestyles are free and available to be lived, it is still an undeniable reality that his lifestyle and many others is a form of perversion of sexuality that most ppl haven’t been accustomed to experiencing up close (especially if that’s not your lifestyle or you don’t have conversations regarding that lifestyle). I think what the response to that show is telling us is that while you are free to live whatever lifestyle you choose in America, not everyone wants to hear or know about it, or be privy to it. These lifestyles, albeit common, will never be normal to the majority of ppl, nor will it be normalized no matter how much some people want it to be.

His show is no different from watching a reality show with an all heterosexual cast. I think the conversation should be about the content and how he navigates life now as a gay Black man. Remember just last year was it that he came out. So he's having a field day with his exploration of it. Like a teenage boy. Granted he still needs to continue with theory. Some of the things he says and does are questionable. There probably needs to be open discussion on it. Especially the being treated like the slave master's son while he's having sex with his Yt partner. Or how he only dates Yt guys or Latino types. No Black guys at all. But this is just my opinion after watching 3 episodes.

I've watched all the episodes, and I am all the way in. I find it fascinating AF. The show isn't anymore salacious than any other reality show, except it feels like the audience is being clued into the actual conceit that underpins the show. Jerrod is obviously going through something. It seems like he is trying to figure out who he is and why he does the things he does, and he feels rightly or wrongly that filming his interactions and making this art for public consumption is a way to do that. I usually cannot watch anything that triggers secondhand embarrassment, but since Jerrod is the one setting himself up and showing it to the world, it makes it easy for me to watch.

Jerrod seems to be going through an identity crisis + familial judgment of his sexuality and he's clearly processing in the way he feels most comfortable - through his craft. Can we critique the content? Sure. But this feels like a very superficial discussion from folks who I'm assuming are straight and don't have an understanding/working knowledge of the nuances happening in real time (internalized racism, new explorations and expressions of his sexuality, etc.) If we want to talk about the cringe factor and him sharing parts of his life that feel like we're invading his privacy, that's one thing (and I'd agree here), but this didn't feel empathetic.
