Good video, thanks for supporting M.A.S.K. Smaller scale figures offers smaller vehicles, lower costs and less materials needed. A favorite line, but I bet the small scale kept GI Joe fans from mixing/trying MASK figures/vehicles.

To this day I still can't belive I gave all my mask toys away when I reached that age when society says its time to "grow up"... Obviously Condor is a fictious motorcycle but I think its great that kenner chose to paint it in the Real world "kawasaki racing green" colour... They got the shade of green 100% spot on.

I am actually a 90s kid who got introduced to MASK through reruns of the cartoon in 1998 and, since I like almost everything that transforms, was instantly a fan. Unfortunately at that time, the toys were no longer sold in stores and the global internet still was in its infancy, so the secondary online market wasn't an option. In a bit of nostalgia, I bought almost all of VENOM's vehicles for my 32nd birthday a few years ago. Contrary to what you say, I am actually impressed with the quality on these toys. All the mechanisms still work properly after 35+ years. As a longtime collector of Transformers, Super Sentai/Power Rangers and other transforming toys, I have experienced toys that are more prone to breakage, despite not being as old. As for why this toyline is so underrated: I guess it has to do with not receiving any exposure and/or reboots after its initial run. Therefore, it is only a bit of 80s nostalgia, rather than a strong brand that originated from that period, like Transformers. You can actually blame the Jim Carry THE Mask movie for killing off MASK as a brand; Kenner did want to reboot MASK in the 90s, but decided against it, as doing so would lead to brand confusion with The Mask, which they also held the toy license to. As a result, they merely reused designs and concepts from MASK in an entirely new toyline called Vor-Tech.

This was brilliant Dean. I have the entire set of M.A.S.K. vehicles myself, and all are 100% complete, and that includes the original red fuel hoses for Boulder Hill. I also have all the 1985 long and short masks. I think I may have told you before, but when you transform Switchblade back into helicopter mode, you need to make sure the back tail fin is up, then fold the wings back, and then put the back tail fin down. If you keep on putting down the tail fin before you fold the wings back, you'll eventually break those small tabs.

That took me back. We were dirt poor when I was a kid. I was obsessed with Mask and I only ever managed to get one wave 2 vehicle, the Firefly. My brother got the same and also Thunderhawk. I was disappointed by the figures lacking painted eyes.

In my opinion mask toys were some of the best toys ever made though thay have not held up well over the course of time for braking but old he man stuff has the same problems mind thay are 40 years old I've had nece stuff that's not lasted that long definitely needs a come back the cartoon intro brings back memories
@Kickback-dm7zt
@Kickback-dm7zt 2 жыл бұрын
The funny thing about the intro is it features HURRICANE and NOT Fire cracker despite hurricane wasn't released until at least wave 2 as the new vechile for Hondo McLean after fire cracker was destroyed in the TV show.... Also when you look at the clip of the intro we're it zooms in on 4 mask agents you can see Hondo McLean is wearing the costume he wore when he was driving fire cracker but his mask is the later 1 he had when he was driving hurricane.

I definitely put MASK over Masters of the Universe and certainly over Transformers. While MOTU was certainly durable, after the second wave it was just gimmicks. And, even though MASK may not have been the most durable, it was by far more durable than Transformers. And with Transformers, there was no real way to act out the scenes depicted in the media; scale was wrong, spent most of the time doing transformations, etc. MASK solved both of these problems perfectly!

I’ve just recently picked up a few M.A.S.K. figures. I never collected any in the 80’s - girls, football and music took over, even though I was only 11 lol . but it was the last cartoon I remember watching as a kid, I just stopped getting toys as presents etc.. I must say they are great, smaller then I expected but very detailed and articulated well. Definitely gonna pick up some more and I am re visiting the cartoon series on KZfaq to familiarise my self with the characters again.

I always thought M.A.S.K. was an awesome toy line! But we never did get our hands on them as kids and that was going back to the type of plastic used. Mind you I wasn’t rough with my toys, and I can’t remember which vehicle I had, but I pressed the button and pieces were flying everywhere. My mom was like we will have no more of that 😂. With the price point and the way it was made, my parents weren’t having it… Glad you’re doing a bit better Dean, keep on keeping on brother!

I never owned any MASK as a kid, though I saw them in catalogues all the time and coveted many vehicles. I wanted Condor the most. I think if the figures had slightly better artic, and maybe some accessories beyond the masks, they might have had more appeal. It also seemed to come out when the 'juggernauts' were peaking, and a whole bunch of other new lines around the same time period were appearing and doing well. I would say MASK is probably somewhere like 6th on my list of greatest toys, partly because I never got any, and partly because that meant I clearly wanted other things more. Transformers, Joe, Star Wars, Zoids, He-Man - I had multiples of all of them. I have since rectified that error, and can tell I would have loved them as a kid. The only one I still covet is the Firecracker... One thing that genuinely bugs me about the line is the stickers saying 'MASK' and 'Venom' on them - I always hated that. Like when the KITT car said 'Knight Rider' on the side - it ruined it for me even as a kid. Thankfully Star Wars, Joe and Transformers never did that.

You brought back so many memories! I was luck to have 3 mask vehicle as a kid back then. My first was Jackhammer from xmas '86, Firecracker spring '87 (birthday present) and finally Thunderhawk xmas '87 which was the one i ever specifically asked for. My dad always came back to me saying it was sold out. I got it from my uncle who had to drive 20 miles out of town to a bigger toy store to get it for me! Sad thing is i no longer have these toys. I played with them everyday for the next few years, some broke and got misplaced between house moves. I'd definitely buy the original kenner thunderhawk again LOL!

The MASK cartoon was great. The toys were alright, I never got too many of them as a kid. The scale probably is what turned me off to them, and if I must be brutally honest, the lack of paint details probably as well as the lack of articulation were also factors. Rhino, Thunderhawk and Boulder Hill looked cool, though. As a kid, GI Joe and Transformers being my main lines in 1985, MASK belongs on the pantheon, however.

Before I watch the video I have a theory. The toys didn't catch on because the scale of the figures was stupid. They were too small to interact with other toylines (mainly GI Joe) and thus you couldn't play with all the things. I think that was a major factor. I know it was for me, as I loved playing with all of a thing together. Matchbox / Hotwheels. Transformers / Go Bots / Voltron. He-Man and... Okay He-Man is a bad example but I had enough He-Man where it didn't matter HAHAHA But seriously, the figure size really handicapped Kenner hard and I think it's what ultimately killed the toys because the toys, on their own, were pretty damned awesome.
@ReynoldsReviews
@ReynoldsReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm I agree to a point, the thing is the figures weren’t really the focus of the line, it was the vehicles. And while the 6 year old in me says I want them to be 3.75, in reality just imagine how big Rhino would’ve had to be , and Boulder Hill would’ve been gigantic if it had to accommodate 3.75 vehicles and figures. While I don’t disagree it may have contributed to the line not been as successful as others of that era, I really don’t think Kenner could’ve made the figures any bigger in reality.
@vincentferrari
@vincentferrari 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReynoldsReviews I don't disagree, but my perspective answers "Why is it underrated?" It's underrated because a smart business decision to keep costs affordable made the line an island unto its own that kept it isolated from other toys in its space. Business-wise, they had to make it that size, but that decision shot them in the foot somewhat.
@ReynoldsReviews
@ReynoldsReviews 2 жыл бұрын
@@vincentferrari yeah possibly, I never liked playing with toys and crossing over toy lines as a kid, maybe that’s why it never mattered to me. If I was playing MASK then I was playing MASK, I never liked cross overs at play time lol. However that explains a lot about my adult personality now lol 😂
