I have a question here. I understand leasing a better option than loan. what about downpayment vs leasing. The investment oppurtunity will be in both cases. Like for a 20 lakh car, in downpayment you wont be paying anything else and you will have 50k (assuming monthly lease) to invest monthly. However in case of leasing you will be paying around 50k per month and invest the 20 lakhs

The resale amount is always a positive for self-owned! For the Lease car- you calculated tax rebate on fuel, and maintenance, and interest on downpayment value. For Loan Car- Calculate the resale amount also, this will give what you have after 3-4 years in your hand.

Very informative video. However I had a few queries : 1) After the lease period is the car transferred to the user as a second owner registration. If not then say for a 3 year tenure what would be the additional 'buy' cost of a small car for the user to become the owner after the lease period is complete. 2) Would it be fair to say that if a person is planning to buy a car to user for 8-10 years, then loaning for 3 years with 20% downpayment would be a better option than leasing for 3 and then buying from the lease co. Can you share any such standard calculations to help understand the costs better. TIA.

2 things make leasing even better. 1) Interest rates - You cannot get for 7.5% these days so it would be costlier to own 2) Oppurtunity cost of downpayment. If we invest that 1.3 lakhs in fd we get 30k as returns in leasing case.

Why was this comparison even done? When you opt to buy a car on lease, you'll first pay the amount for the allocated years and then after the timeline passes, what? Are you *again* going to spend much amount for a new/lease car? Though leasing a car will cost you 10-20% less than buying it on loan, but isn't it a foolish decision to buy your liability again and spend 80% of the amount again (as you've already paid for the leased amount). Take a think!

Great content and very well explained. Thank you. Have downloaded the spreadsheet so that I can formulate the details based on lease offered by the company I work for. One question - the EMI mentioned for lease seems to be calculated at the same ROI of car loan. Is this right? The reason I ask is, normally the company adds EMI+GST , fleet maintenance charges+GST in addition to the EMI so all together it will cost around 52k for a 3 year plan for a vehicle with on road price 22.5 lakhs.

The monthly EMI for Lease I have mentioned includes the Fleet Maintenance and GST. 🙂 These are not made up numbers but something I am actually personally using - both of these options. My most of the content is based on personal experiences and not just sharing a Funda for the sake of it.

simply concept is useless, let me tell you, Why ? let me explain, even if it's tax money. Reason one, you never own so you can't sell. Second, for any tension everyone's taking zero-dep and extended warranty at time of buying, so no tension. Also there's a lot more, what if you change your company that gave you the car-leasing option. Today everyone before buying a car knows that it's max life is 10 years on road so no point buying your car when lease is over in 3-5 years which is max. in other words, no matter what's your financial situation..lets say even if you dont have money for downpayment (and you're working) this looks twisted in india.RTO and these minimal charges after on-road are one time and like nothing(why because people spend more than that on fuel itself within every 3 to 6 months for the same car) Anyway sharing my understanding about this all to your other subscribers. Help us understand lets say even if it hurts to pay 30% taxes for someone, and financial advisor says these EMIs annual amount could reduce your Gross CTC and it's basically your 1/3rd(30%) tax money that you're paying as EMI (long story short). Getting the option to buy the same car after 3-5 years (when you've saved money by car-lease using fixed resale value or something like that)...is it profitable ? any real numbers for someone leased a car like this ? What if company has finance partner (providing lease at 11%) is it profitable any way ?

The govt tax on a leased car is very high.. I do not think this calculation is right.. I am aware of the value of a car from Avis car lease, and it adds taxes that takes the total value of the car to close to 1.5 times the original price...

Yeah calculation theoretical, in practical Life everything depends on the way of you own the things either is car or something else and the re sale value depends the condition, also owning a car you could be make change in your own way, i didn't agree that this is the right time in India to lease a car a lot of development need to be done in a way.

Right now company give you a time period with fix amount of km, you can't do any upradation in a car , once you own a car maybe you can cost cutting by fitting CNG kit if your Driving is a lot, there is multiple factors, Right now leasing a car in India is costly then owning and as you said investment your money not everyone can take risk to invest in mutual fund stock gold bond for higher return it's all about skill there's no guarantee too that you can have a good return , the concept of leasing car very new, price isn't justify currently
