Why Is My Replacement Kugoo G Booster Electric Scooter Also Broken After 20 miles?!!

I'm back and out on the G Booster! This is my replacement electric scooter for the one I initially reviewed.
As you will see, this replacement is suffering from the same issues as the previous one.
I have heard that lots of these newer 2020 G Booster's are having the same issues. The newer controller is obviously of lower quality than the previous generation. So be wary when purchasing a newer scooter.
The future plan is to source some older controllers and display to fix the problem as the older ones seem more robust.

Hey there buddy sorry about the late update, I had to wait from November for my m4 had loads of issues with supplier and they eventually sent me a different scooter called a honeywhale e5 as a replacement after making lots of excuses about brexit and essentiall work. Just waiting now to give it a good try. The sculptures looked great 👍 Well done on being polite to the pedestrians 🚶‍♂️ Hopefully you will be able to resolve the issue with cogging, I have not any experience but my logic tells me if you have two independent motors one may be going at a slightly different speed to the other and causing the issue. I have had similarities when my viscous copeler on an old p38 Range Rover went bad. It caused the wheels to skip when going into corners witch in turn ruined tyres and caused drag as the slower wheel was skipping trying to catch up. Like trying do get round a corner with a locking differential ( the outside wheel need to travel faster) in a car. Your Scooter 🛴 has two wheel in line disconnectable drive, so one controller is out of sync. Just a guess Great to see positive attitude and I am quite sure everything will turn out great 👍 Best wishes from West Yorkshire P.S. wear some gloves and knee protection, because it’s like all fast things eventually you get used to the speed you want to go faster and forget just how fast it is until ouch. Stay safe buddy you are a valuable piece of our community

Howdy, sounds like a pita, this is the 2nd Kugoo scooter from the same supplier, makibes on Amazon, the first one arrived & when I opened the box it was Clear that some Damage may have occurred During Transit, here's a quick rundown, the front light was in bits, I Repaired, The Battery inside the footplate wasn't secure, so it would rattle about, & the steering had excess play, Scratches here and there on the frame and Mudgaurds. I Fixed Most, But Then after doing about 25-30 miles the thing would shake and vibrate, I Contacted the seller & sent it back to Poland, got a replacement Which was Worse Believe it or not, Steering Issue Again, Warped Brake Disc, side lights working only 1 side & a Vibration Going Right through the frame, like a wheel bearing gone in a car, took it to a electric Scooter shop, & they wouldn't touch it when they seen the Kugoo logo, it's not long back from Poland & I Clearly Noted The Faults On A4 Paper and attached it to the frame & then Carefully Packed it up, & it came back with just the side lights fixed and Nothing Else. And The Accelerator and display was Snapped off the bars and the back mudgaurd broken should have got a full refund at the start, all in I've spent about £900 Absolute Nightmare, You Couldn't Write That Material. Waffle Over & Good Luck & I Always Wear A Helmet and Protective Gear And Would Advise It Always. All the best from Glasgow...

That looks like nearly the same scooter so I wouldn't be too worried. It might actually be better built, lets hope so! Weather is part of the reason why I haven't uploaded for a while. Well I've got some checking to do, my new Viper scooter doesn't do this at all and just launches. The G booster, its like the front motor stalls when it meets some resistance but then affects the whole scooter after putting it in sort of a limp mode. I've bought better gloves now and I am considering knee pads soon. Lucky enough to have not fallen off in a while though touch wood. You stay safe too buddy and its really appreciated!😀

I actually bought a Kugoo M4 Pro after you covered it. It's a lovely scooter but.... it developed some sort of fault (Error 01) after just 23km. Very disappointed. I suspect its a hall sensor fault and not really being experienced with anything of this sort, I went ahead and bought a motor and a controller. Either way, it's good to have spare parts I suppose. Their customer service seems bad, haven't received any replies. Had I known, I would have saved up and gone with the Emove Cruiser, even if it is more expensive & shipping from the States to Malta would really be tricky.

That's not good to hear, but glad you've got it sorted. I'm going to be covering some methods to increase the life of the controller soon as 95% of the problems out there are the controller overheating and failing. Motor failures are a lot more rare. Yeah I think your pretty much on your own with Kugoo after 30 days, which is a shame. 2 brands in the UK that interest me are Solar and Viper. Solar have 2 year warranties so your covered relatively well and they have a good range of scooters

Here in Seattle, wa, USA there are the No Motorized Vehicles signs on the trails and the law does say it's unlawful to ride a motorized foot scooter on the trails and through paths that the ground may become damaged (such as dirt paths). But police don't enforce it and people seem to not mind me as long as I'm riding safe. I'll only ride the electric scooter on those paths. And I'll avoid those paths on my 49cc foot scooter because I'm sure the noise and exhaust will disturb a lot of people. It's even unlawful to ride a scooter on the sidewalk but I still do if I'm riding slow and safe around people. A coupe weeks ago, there was another area in the laws that says it does allow to ride motorized foot scooters on sidewalks, but I can't find it anymore.

I'm am so jealous of your laws there regarding electric scooters. Here, the only place you can legally ride is on private land. Was fairly set on getting the g booster for a while but to be honest after hearing about the cogging issues and joining the Gbooster whatsapp group only to see more people reporting problems, I've decided on the Zero10x straight from the manufacturer. They're sold as the T10 DDM model and then it seems the likes of Apollo and Zero buy them in bulk only to stick their own branding on it. Should be able to get one made to order with the parts you request and it'll cost just around the same as the g booster. All in all, you should be able to pick up a whopper scooter for the same price as this one....

@@bill-e6114 ok. Thank you so much for the feedback. You advise is much appreciated. Also another area of my concern is the battery pack. @@paulwhat322 No problem, Yes that's the risk you take with the cheaper scooters, so they require a little more vigilance when discharging, charging and storing. Usually better brands and the more expensive models generally use branded cells. But saying that if you treat the cheaper cells right they are fine for plenty of cycles. Some people have clocked well over a thousand miles on the M4's and the batteries are still going fine. Hey buddy great video subscribed for sure and watched all your other vids! Love your content man. What's your opinion on upgrading the battery on the g booster? I've got the older version so no problems really and everything works well apart from the fact that I wouldn't mind abit more range, never satisfied! Lol 😂 Was thinking about a 52v battery instead of the original 48v but don't know if the controllers would take it and am struggling to find a battery that I trust to be honest not sure if it's worth the risk. I wouldn't go for 60v cause the controller definitely wouldn't take it and would no doubt need rapkcing but have heard that you could potentially go upto 52v without damage. Thinking of more ah awell for the range was just wondering if you've ever done anything in regards to changing the battery or if you've had any success? The batteries seemed to be scarce and can't really find anything that look reliable and don't just wanna buy a cheapy cause it will no doubt be smaller than the original and probably blow 😂 currently got 23ah but was thinking more like a 35 upwards. Spoke to a couple of people on Facebook but they're all from Russia and I know the scooter is well known and big over there but not much on it in the UK unfortunately!
@bill-e6114
@bill-e6114 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate for that😀 Jealous that yours runs well 😭 I run 52v on a 48v controller in my ebike. I think the capacitors in that controller is the weak point at 63v, so would imagine G boosters are the same and would be fine. Batteries are so expensive now, but a decent custom battery builder in the UK would be the way I would go using quality cells would give much more range at the same AH. You could fill the deck, give the builder dimensions and he would be able to tell you the max you could go
@adambarnes2136
@adambarnes2136 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply mate! Appreciate all the advice and knowledge... Yeh I think I've read that the controllers for the g booster can handle somewhere in the low 60s so that makes alot of sense! Ah man if anyone can get it working it's you I'm sure, reckon you could just replace the controller in your booster to stop the cogging? And haha yeah tell me about it bro 😂 the decent batteries I've been looking at some LG and Panasonic in upwards of 6 - 900 quid crazy money! I guess its just a case of finding a reputable builder that won't rip you off not sure if I can justify the multiple hundreds of pounds for a few extra mph and abit more range but just can't help and wonder and would be nice to have, you know what it's like can never leave the bloody things alone as they are haha thanks again bud hope you get your one running smoothly soon 👌 👍

They're a good chassis, nice size and definitely worth upgrading if you use it constantly. That's what they are lacking, a really a good 52v battery. In my opinion 60v and upwards is too fast. Think custom is the way to go, try ebikebatteries.co.uk they've got a good rep. I will sort mine with 2 new independent controllers, that way I can change the power distribution to have more power at the rear rather than 50/50 😁

@Billy Reeves yeah man I agree watching your videos has inspired me to get a better battery with abit more range and umph! That sounds like a pretty decent plan! I'm no where near as savvy as you are with them though in fact i wouldn't have a clue 😂 so if I take the leap I just got to find someone to set it all up I could give it a go but wouldn't wanna go and completely ruin it sort of thing lol thanks for the website mate appreciate it 👍 I'll look into it still learning really with the whole battery and controller situation. I guess I'm hoping that if I'm only going to replace the battery to a 52v then there won't be too much wiring to do🤞 if I knew what I was doing I'd probably replace the controllers aswell to avoid overheating but it just too much work for me to get my head around at the moment 😂
@bill-e6114
@bill-e6114 3 жыл бұрын
I think the only way to get your head around it is to take the plunge. They are relatively straight forward once you get into it. The battery won't be that difficult, 2 yellow controller xt60 plugs and the charge plug and your away. I would do the thermal tape mod on the controllers as a necessity to keep the heat down and see how it goes. 2 rules if doing controllers, never let the phase wires touch each other and never let negatives wires touch positves. If your close to Lincolnshire I don't mind lending a hand 😀

Mine still does it I bought a new controller but it was a bit different but still the same outcome so I opened up the old one and everything looked fine so I put it back in, I've isolated the controllers separately with foam so they don't rattle when the power goes through them, maybe its placebo but it feels better and not as noisy, it's my rear motor that does this but I did swap the power wires over from front to back and then the front motor started doing it I don't even think it's faulty controller I think it's the way the power/amps are mapped through the controllers and it bottlenecks somewhere , my kugoo is still fast as fuck it's just a bit annoying sometimes when it happens, I think the only way out of it is to buy the old controllers and display ,I won't though cause I'm still happy with the power and speed, ps I've still got mine on 12amps cause I couldn't tell Any difference when moved it up , thanks for the video👍

Ah so you've done a thorough investigation already, that's good then it sounds like they've put the wrong controllers in possibly for them motors. Shame you cannot have the controller learn the motors but no halls for that. I may try soldering those phase connections directly rather than those bullet connectors as they are well known for problems. I am reluctant to change controllers yet too, but have you ever had it do what mine does where there's hardly any power and struggles to go over 15mph? When I wack that P14 setting to 19/20 there's quite a big difference in performance in my opinion. Still a great scooter, just ruined slightly with a poor updated controller choice. Cheers 😀

Could be a faulty display if your not having any issues apart from that. As long as I think P3 is set to 48v I can't see any other setting that could affect it

No, not yet but they do look at me. I try to act as casual and safe as I can when they're around and they seem to leave me alone. Trying to post twice a month now, when the weather picks up it will be 3-4 times a month

Hiya mate l just watched a video about the g booster cogging noise, he found of the issue is the controller.

Yeah I think we're all convinced it is now. Although I'm thinking of replacing all mosfets on the current controllers or possibly replacing both controllers with slightly more powerful ones. Might hold of until the scooter is unrideable first though

G Booster is terrible. Screws on the deck are now stripped which is dangerous. Innertube valve is stuck in the rear rim so I can't fully remove it. Constant flats even with the green stuff. Lol it's issue after issue for me. I need someone to fix it but it won't be easy. If anyone in London wants to lend a helping hand, give me a shout.

I've had trouble with deck screws, also the valves. I ended up going to a tubeless tyre straight away, so can't comment on flats although I know its a common problem on the back wheel. I would help if I was closer bud

Yeah the basic brakes on these aren't great, lots of people upgrade so a few options there. You have to spend a couple hundred getting this scooter to a better standard
