I'm sorry, but just because there are more women doesn't mean they are worth less, and don't deserve their husband just as much as their husband deserves them. Also, just because other religions do the same doesn't mean it's right. It's almost like 'we are not the only bad guys, they are doing it too!' Not a very good argument in my opinion. YATAMA means orphans as well as unmarried, divorced or widowed women. 4:3 If you fear that you (the society) will not be able to do justice with the orphans, (as may happen in times of war and political turbulence, the government shall announce a state of Emergency), then, in order to accommodate widows and orphans, men of sound finances and character shall be encouraged to marry among these widows with mutual choice; two, three, and four. But, if you fear that you will not be able to deal justly, then, you must not take additional wives, and may continue with what you already have. This will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice and face financial hardship. Why does Islam permit polygamy? 1. Definition of Polygamy Polygamy means a system of marriage wherein one person has more than one spouse. Polygamy can be of two types; one is polygyny wherein a man marries more than one woman, and the other is polyandry, wherein a woman marries more than one man. Islam permits limited polygyny while prohibiting polyandry completely. 2. Legal Position of Polygyny in Islam Muslims derive the permissibility of polygyny in Islam from the Qur’anic verse: “If you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then (marry) only one…” [Al-Qur’an 4:3] From this verse, it is evident that polygyny is neither mandatory, nor encouraged, but merely permitted. The Qur’an also warns about the difficulty of dealing justly between multiple wives: Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women, even if it is your ardent desire: But turn not away (from a woman) altogether, so as to leave her (as it were) hanging (in the air). If ye come to a friendly understanding, and practise self-restraint, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. [Al-Qur’an 4:129] Nevertheless, it made fair and equitable dealing with wives an obligation. If one is not sure of being able to deal justly with wives, the Qur’an says: “then (marry) only one” (Qur’an 4:3). The Qur’anic injunction, thus, made polygyny restrictive, when compared with the prevalent practice in the world. Dr. Jamal Badawi, a Canadian Islamic scholar says: “The requirement of justice rules out the fantasy that man can “own as many as he pleases.” It also rules out the concept of a “secondary wife”, for all wives have exactly the same status and are entitled to identical rights and claims over their husband. It also implies, according to the Islamic Law, that should the husband fail to provide enough support for any of his wives, she can go to court and ask for a divorce.” 3. Is Polygyny Exclusive to Islam? The question that arises is: “Did the institution of polygyny originate in Islam”? A brief look at major world religions and cultures clearly indicates that this is not the case. 1. Polygyny is permitted in Judaism. According to Talmudic law, Abraham had three wives, and Solomon had hundreds of wives. The practice of polygyny continued until Rabbi Gershom ben Yehudah (960 C.E to 1030 C.E) issued an edict against it. It had not been forbidden by God: even Abraham, who was a “perfect Christian”, had two wives. Conclusion The association of polygamy with Islam is a serious misunderstanding. Polygamy was practiced, often without limitations, in almost all cultures. In Islam, polygyny is not a substitute for monogamy, but merely a permission to practice limited polygyny, which is consistent with Islam’s realistic view of human nature, as well as social needs. Here’s the thing: monogamy produces much more healthy, stable families. It’s not my opinion. We have an abundance of empirical research on this. In cultures that permit men to take multiple wives, the intra-sexual competition that occurs causes greater levels of crime, violence, poverty than in societies that practice monogamous marriage.

Zakir Naik says that a woman cannot marry more than one man because it will become difficult to identify who is the father of the child. Since when has giving birth to a child become a criteria for marriage??? People get married because they are in love with each other and not because they want to have a child. It is explained in the Bhavishya Purana (Parva 3, Khand 3, Adhya 3, verses 5-6) that "An illiterate mleccha [foreigner] teacher will appear, Mahamada is his name, and he will give religion to his fifth-class companions." This does not describe much in regard to his life, but it does mention someone by the name of Mahamada, and what he was expected to do, which was to give his own form of religion to the lower classes of his region. Some people suggest this person to be Prophet Mohammed, and are, thus, most willing to accept that Prophet Mohammed was predicted in the Bhavishya Purana. Some Muslims then suggest that if he was predicted in this way by a Vedic text, then Hindus should all accept Mohammed and become Muslims. However, on the other hand, it would seem odd that Muslims would accept a Vedic text to try to convince Hindus to become Muslims. But if we look at the full translation of this story, they may not want to jump to the conclusion that this story represents Prophet Mohammed. Thereafter, however, the King went to worship the image of Lord Mahadev, the great god Shiva, situated in the marusthal, desert. King Bhoj bathed the image of Shiva with Ganges water and worshiped him in his mind with panchagavya (the five purificatory elements from the cow, consisting of milk, ghee, yogurt, cow dung, and cow urine), along with sandalwood paste, etc., and offered him, the image of Shiva, sincere prayers and devotion. King Bhoj prayed to Lord Mahadev, "O Girijanath who stays in the marusthal (land of deserts), I offer my prayers to you. You have forced maya [the illusory energy] to destroy Tripurasur [the demon Tripura]; but the mlecchas are now worshiping you. You are pure and sat-chit-anand swaroop [eternal knowledge and bliss]. I am your sevak [servant]. I have come under your protection." Verses 10-27 relates next that Suta Goswami explained: After hearing the king’s prayers and being pleased with him, Lord Shiva said: "Let the King go to Mahakaleshwar (Ujjain) in the land of Vahika, which is now contaminated by mlecchas. O King, the land where you are standing, that is popular by the name of Bahik, has been polluted by the mlecchas. In that terrible country there no longer exists Dharma. There was a mystic demon named Tripura (Tripurasura), whom I have already burnt to ashes once before, he has come again by the order of Bali. He has no origin but he achieved a benediction from me. His name is Mahamada and his deeds are like that of a ghost. Therefore, O king, you should not go to this land of the evil ghost. By my mercy your intelligence will be purified." [This would seem to indicate that this Mahamada was an incarnation of the demon Tripura.] So hearing this, the king came back to his country and Mahamada came with them, but only to the bank of the river Sindhu. He was expert in expanding illusion, so he said to the king very pleasingly, "O great king, your god has become my servant. Just see, as he eats my remnants, so I will show you." The king became surprised when he saw this happening before them. Then in anger Kalidasa, the king’s commander, rebuked Mahamada, "O rascal, you have created an illusion to bewilder the king, I will kill you, you are the lowest..." Then the king left that area. Later, in the form of a ghostly presence, the expert illusionist Mahamada appeared at night in front of King Bhojaraja and said: "O King, your religion is of course known as the best religion among all. Still, by the order of the Lord, I am going to establish a terrible and demoniac religion and enforce a strong creed over the meat-eaters [mlecchas]. My followers will be known by their cut [circumcised] genitals, they will have no shikha [tuft of hair on their head, like Brahmanas], but will have a beard, make noise loudly, and eat all kinds of animals except swine without observing any rituals. They will perform purificatory acts with the musala, and thus be called musalman, and not purify their things with kusha grass [one of the Vedic customs]. Thus, I will be the originator of this adharmic [opposed to Vedic or Aryan Dharma] and demoniac religion of the meat-eating nations." After having heard all this, the Bhavishya Purana goes on to relate that King Bhojaraja returned to his land and palace, and that ghost of the man also went back to his own place. It is lastly described how the intelligent king, Bhojaraja, established the language of Sanskrit amongst the three varnas -- the Brahmanas, Kshatriyas and Vaisyas -- and for the Shudras he established prakrita-bhasha, the ordinary language spoken by common men. After ruling his kingdom for another 50 years, he went to the heavenly planets. The moral laws established by him were honored even by the demigods. The arya-varta, the pious land is situated between Vindhyachala and Himachala, or the mountains known as Vindhya and Himalaya. The Aryans reside there, but the varna-sankaras reside on the lower part of Vindhya. The musalman people were kept on the other [northwestern] side of the river Sindhu. * * * Thus, from the interpretations of the present editions of the Bhavishya Purana that are available, it seems to say there was someone named Mahamada that King Bhojaraja met in the desert, who was supposedly a reappearance of the Tripura demon, who would start his own religion for those mlecchas who are unable to follow the spiritual codes of the deeper aspects of spiritual culture, or Vedic Dharma, and who would also spread adharma, or that religion that would be opposed to Vedic Dharma. I am an ex-muslim and I am not sexist or a feminist but this a serious question... do you honestly believe a man (yes any man) can be equal to all their wives?? Men cannot even multitask!!! Women are far better at multitasking, providing emotional support and attention so they would do a far better job with having 4 husbands than the other way round! And before you come at me... Sir l respect you. It bothers me when you view a single women as public property. Its narrow-minded. Marium ( AS) was single and she was a pious woman. There are many single women being teachers, doctors and doing halal jobs,besides taking care of her parents. Afterall your words influence your fans and followers.

What I can say is, if he is basing the old way of life, I don't really believe that it is right, not all of the ways back then are correct. People back then are exploring about human life. People before as compared to people nowadays are broader, we know now what is right and wrong thru studies which is the generation of people have studied to give a definite answers to everything. So marrying multiple women is not an answer to make the number of.female and male be matched because at the first place there is no equation for that. if for example 3Billlion Men will never be an equal to 4.5Billion women that the calculation for each men will never give a consistent answer because we can never know maybe the situation will change.

But psycologically it is not possible for women to share her husband and live peacefully.even prophet Mohammad (PBUH) wives remain disturb bcz of polygamy.ahadith tells us about their anger,their fightings and their jealousy. And why a woman should be given punishment if man r few in number.it is not a woman fault that they r more in number.it does'nt make sence.

Hey, single women are not public property! There are countless nuns in many religions, countless single working women who are unmarried by choice, countless single women who dedicate their lives for noble causes and countless leaders who chose to serve others and hence chose to stay single. There are similar countless examples for males too. It's just about what gives you most happiness based on what is more important for you. Both me and my sister are thinking of staying single very happily as we want to serve others and dedicate our lives for noble causes. We definitely, by any means, are not public property and not less than anyone.

In this celestial sphere , in our solar system all most all the planets are spinning on their own axis from west to east , accordingly their annual motions have been fixed up on anti clock direction. But the planet Venus spines slowly on its own axis from east to west for which The sun rises in the west and sets in the east in venus. What does public property mean? Does it mean that if a woman does not have a husband then she is less than a person to be treated like some kind of dog. If man doesn't have a wife is he public property? What happens if a husband dies, is the wife public property?
