I’d been a fan of Robben’s since hearing his work on Court and Spark. Then he came out with the Talk to Your Daughter album and I was completely blown away. Still am. You’re definitely on it with the added gain/overdrive. I also think that, as good as it sounds with the Strat, the LP nails it. His signature guitar at that tune was a Fender with humbuckers and I’m pretty sure that was his primary guitar on that album. The humbuckers give it that extra push. As always: thanks for the video. Right !!! No one will ever sound like any musician artist …..gears are extremely relevant , Touch , approach, expression, theory, improvisation make those artists unique.

You’re chasing your tail if you are going for Ford’s earlier tone with a Strat. Humbuckers would be a better starting place.

The dumble tone is achievable only if you play like those guys (robben ford, Carlton etc...). If ou use a dumble to play strumming it will never sounds like a Dumble.

Yeah, for me it really shines for those warm single note solos in the neck position with a single coil. It’ll really opens up though with a bridge pickup and can get pretty chunky.

Idk, to me as a metal guitarist it just sounds like every standard clean/edge of breakup tone tbh

And you’ll hear the same from blues and edge of breakup players about metal tones lol. No biggie. Go with what suits us best.
