That baby is staring at you, and you don't know why. Something in your teeth? Did you accidentally leave a tag on your clothes? Don't worry-that baby probably just likes your face.

I tend to be shy a lot around people so when a baby or 2 to 3 year old kids starts staring at me, I find it quite hard for me to stare back, But I glance back every time only to see that they haven't let up and I slowly begin to smile and laugh because they are persistent. And now the baby will forever think I'm weird lol...

Why babies stare at some faces more than others? For some reason, babies seems to find my dad's face the most charming thing in the world, even if they are total strangers to him. They respond to him instantly and many times, approach him too, much to the despair of their parents.

When a baby stares at me I take the opportunity to have solid eye-contact with them because they won't end up remembering it and it's generally good practice for humans to have eye contact. (I have a thing about eye contact and generally avoid it as much as I can get away with it. Also the amount I allow is directly proportional to my familiarity, proximity, and memorability with the other person.)

The Impish Dullahan i was thinking that myself as i watched this. I have difficulty maintaining eye contact and it sends the wrong message sometimes. My fear is that my own stare might creep them out so i try not to keep it going. It's an anxiety I have whether the person looks at me first or not. If I'm talking to them, i can handle it, but the flirting sort of eye contact from across the room? Nope, can't handle that at all. I believe only myself to be weirding them out even if they start it. I have serious issues with confidence

My 10-month old likes to stare. He gets really happy if the person smiles at him.
@Blueeyesthewarrior
@Blueeyesthewarrior 7 жыл бұрын
It's really interesting you say that, because babies learn mostly through observation and our brains are typically hard-wired for empathy, seeing other people happy literally causes babies to feel happy. So when your 10-month old sees somebody smile at him, he mirrors the happiness that that person shows by smiling.

This must be why people in isolated areas with ethnically homogeneous populations always think people who aren't of their group all look the same. People who grow up in big diverse cities generally have less difficulty telling people from other ethnic groups apart.

BlackJoe23 Our brains are really efficient, but to be that efficient our brains get rid of connections and associations it deems unnecessary. So all the associations for recognizing small facial differences that one wouldn't need to differentiate between the people around them are lost. So if one is used to differentiating caucasians, it's easier because of the wide range of hair and eyes, so all the subtle differences of facial structure aren't needed and then one struggles when the easy indicators that they lean on are no longer as present.

Random story that happen to me: Alright, I'm 14 years old and I'm pretty tall, I'm 177cm (5'7 or 5'8). I was standing in a line to get coffe for my parents, while they were going around the supermarket getting groceries. There was a lady and a todler in front of me. While the lady was ordering the todler turned around to look behind him. He looked at my feet and then slowly looked up. His curious expression was replaced by sheer terror. His mom was done ordering and started talking to another person so they didn't go anywhere. By the time I got the coffee they were slowly walking away. Everything was pretty crowded so I walked behind them. The toddler looked behind him again and looked up at me again. He got scared and ran away.

SuperRevar I have noticed that too. I have come to the conclusion that it's most likely because their family and caretakers are probably white and you (and I) are different so they are trying to figure out why and compare us to what they are used to. I had one toddler ask my about my hair in the pool one day. I asked her what was wrong with it and she shrugged and splashed me.

I was once eating at a small restaurant with my friends, and then a family with a small kid of about 2 years old came in. The dad was carrying him and walking around inside the restaurant, the baby saw me and kept staring at me. I smiled at him at first, then it became creepy for me, because he never took his eyes off me, until his dad took him to their table to eat. After a while, the kid came to my table and looked at my friends, and then he locked his gaze onto me and started to pull my arm wanting to drag me off. His grip was firm, I swear I had to use quite a bit of energy to resist him from pulling me, thank god his dad came and took him away very soon. That was the creepiest moment i ever had with a baby.

I usually assume that babies are staring at me to figure out where the best place is for them to sink their teeth to get the first bite. When they start the biting, a feeding-frenzy follows, where numerous babies can devour an adult in under a minute, much like piranhas. Then, they smile at their mothers, get them to burp them, and they sleep for hours, digesting. It is my belief this is the true explanation for the whereabouts of many of the missing persons.

Mr Eighty they probably are. It works with black babies and white people as well, or Asian babies and nonasians. Like the video said, the babies are discovering new faces. Most likely, the baby has spent most time around people of its own race because it spends most time with its family. Id be interested to see how a mixed race baby or a baby who grew up around a lot of different races reacts differently to a baby of one race, or a racial isolated baby.

I get stared at A LOT by babies.... adults too. But babies in particular. To the point that it's happened before that I've gone to try and calm/distract a crying baby and as soon as they see me, they stop and stare. Now I'm autistic, so my facial expressions, body language, etc. is... off. From the general public that is. So maybe the reason why I get so many baby stares is that they are like "Wow look at this really new and different adult, lots to learn!!"

I love children and babies - in a wholesome, LEGAL way. I've always liked babies, but when I became a father myself (though reluctantly at the time) that characteristic and all the instincts that come with it rapidly developed and became primary personality traits - well, secondary if children aren't around. When little children are around I automatically have a strong urge to watch over them, especially if their own parent is distracted by something else; I also get a strong urge to interact with them - which I temper for obvious reasons, but if they start staring at me or trying to communicate then I go out of my way to make them smile. I've always taken it as a compliment when a baby stares. You can usually tell they're just studying fave anyway: if you watch their eyes you can see subtle twitches and slow movements, that combined with their eyes being as wide as possible pretty clearly indicates that they're taking in every detail about your face.

It’s much more complex then that. A baby’s vibration is at its purest, and you can easily trust a baby’s instinct if they smile at a stranger knowing if that stranger is also vibrating at that level, a baby will pick up on that.
