The first AK-308...M77 was created in 1977 by Yugoslavia's Zastava arms to meet the growing popularity of the 7.62 NATO round! It wasn't made in 2013 🤣!

They ware old Galil rifles chembered in 7,62x51 NATO, and newer Galil ACE .308, Zastava M91, some Saiga's... all of witch came way before the AK .308. But the really scariest AK is the Zastava M76, chambered in 8mm Mauser.

I have a Saiga AK in .308, bought it something like 15 years ago. It was made at the Izhmash plant in Izhevsk, it's as legit as you can get. It definitely pounds the shit out of your shoulder...

Hate to be the pedantic one, but there is a subtle difference between 7.62x51 NATO & .308 Winchester. The later has higher chamber pressures, which makes the rounds only one-way compatible

Without even watching the video i know theres already an ak chamberd in 308 the Israelis made the galil in the 60s chamberd in both 5.56 and 308.

Valmet and Galil did this with the AK first. Not really anything new, other than getting modern Russian Manufacturing and Engineering's take on it. 308SAR Galil was nice, and after the Chuck Taylor mods, it took a mix of modernizing tricks and a backwards AR10 Swan Sleeve for me to get an inline ACOG on it back in 2004. Was seen by an Armorer for 3 of 4 SWAT teams, and within 3 years, the EBR program was up and running for the M14 cut down to the SAR 16". Valmet never evolved in the US Market for me to see anything on it. Galil today is impressive, except for it just have yet more parts in its Manufacture. Positives and Negatives for the 308 cartridge still persist in the AK Model, but the rise of inexpensive body armor is leading to the demise of the 39-45mm Intermediate cartridges. So the 308 is getting a revival, well deserved, and US Civilians are understanding the Con to Commonality is the loss of Overmatch. Pro in not over evolving the AK is the Simplicity of the system which is a Strength. Sure it is heavy and has to be. But you do not want to be an owner of an AR and think that you can use a bayonet on the AR and then keep using it. The only bright spot remaining for the AR mini-action frames is the 6mmARC, and the AK needs to take notice of this short round from sub 16" barrels reaching 1000yards and performing Range and Penetration similar to the 308, defeating wind deflection better, and a slightly flatter trajectory. 6ARC is the advancement to save the Mini Action Intermediate Cartridge sized designs, with yet shorter barrels for Urban engagement. 308 will be around for a long long time, like the 54R - the most produced centerfire cartridge in the world. Like the new US M7 6.8x51, it the 308 AK might seed the revival of the 308 Cartridge in 13" barrels bearing a Suppressor to compete with the US M7. My opinion on 13"Supp. v. 16" is not formed yet, but beginning with the M4 at 14.5" and now the M7 at 13", the US Military/DoD are now in Civilian Law Defined SBR land for 2Generations and about 30 years. US SBR laws are doomed.

y and with optic mounted on removable dust cover so it does not hold zero and loose plastic foregrip which cant do it either so you have to buy after market stuff so it can work at least somehow... aks are rubbish 70 year old design lacking any sensible upgrades from manufacturing designers if you are interested in firearms buy rather something west made you will do much better
