If the Qur'an was revealed in a different order than what we have today, how do we know which surahs are connected?
A great question from a student during my Quran Week programme in Glasgow, after the introductory session on Surah Adh-Dhariyat.

According to what I know. Over 23 years, the verses didnot have numbering and we're not revealed in order, but the prophet (saw) told them this verse comes after or before in a specific chapter when revealed.

Compilation and Revelation... chronology... tricky... quite dynamic and impressive... Ich versuche mir das bildlich vorzustellen, wie Menschen sich durch ihr Leben als Gläubige bewegen und sich dabei beständig weiterentwickeln, sowohl in ihrer Sicht auf den Quran, zu dem Allah SWT jedem einen anderen Zugang gewährt, als auch in ihrem Blick auf die reale, fassbare Welt, die sie umgibt und inspiriert, weil diese eine Schöpfung von Allah SWT, dem Gnadenspender, ist. Unfassbar wäre dabei einander zu streng vergleichen und zu hart zu beurteilen oder gar zu Unrecht beherrschen oder ohne gute Absichten beeinflussen zu wollen - aufgrund unserer Unfähigkeit einen Weg finden zu wollen, der es zaghaft und freundlich wagt die Welt mit den Augen eines anderen zu sehen und zu verstehen!

Appreciates your explanation... the order of Quran that we have now is "by design". Before the prophet passed away, Jibreel came down to go through the Quran with the prophet and it was recited as we have now.... people like Jay Smith go all the way to saya Quran was compiled wrongly and corrupted similarly as their Bible.

The Holy Quraan if revealed at once onto a mountain it would crumble because the Holy Quraan is a Sprited Quraan , no wonder it was revealed to the Prophet Mohummed pbuh in stages otherwise it will hurt him as those who asked him what happened to Him (ssw) while verses were bring actually revealed and at times His body reacted in movements to it. HOLY SPRITED QURAAN, providing healing, so recitation should be in slow Rythmic tomes. Tones is frequency and frequency heals. So when one is sick invoke Allah by His 99 Names as well as recite the Quraan if possible in its entirety during the illness in slow Rythmic tones and careful for a Spirit accursed so seek refuge in Allah 1st before you recite

Oh my Allah you're actually right there was this channel that had 60 something uploads of those lessons and it's no longer there on KZfaq. Must've been deleted. Well theres some on bayyinah tv. I only took 11 classes from that channel before I stopped due to some reasons now I'm really regretting my decision because those lessons are gone. 😕😕

I also have a question. Muslims believe that Quran is direct word of their Allah. There are more than 6K verses in Quran. Can you please tell me few verses from Quran which, you think, can not be given from any human or are not copied from ancient other religion. There must be something in your Quran that compels us to agree with Muslim's claim , right ?? Hope I will get more than 3 verses from any Muslim.

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and then We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe? 21:30 And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away. 21:32 And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming. 21:33 So today We will save you in body1 that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. It has been recently discovered in egypt that says the heaven and earth wept for firawn. Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators. 23:14

56 : 75. So I do swear by the positions of the stars -- 76. and this, if only you knew, is indeed a great oath-. Absolutely this is a great oath because it is talking about the positions of the stars, meaning what you see in night are not stars themselves but infact their positions. Indicating what we only recently found out that their light takes millions of years to reach us. Meaning we do not see the stars but merely their position at one time.

Absolutely agree. I can guarantee not a single Muslim who has not spend their lives in studying the Quran can understand the Quran just by reading it in that order. It is suppose to be the word of God but written in language that no one except the people of that time understood and then claims this book is for everybody and all eras.

This is absolutely ridiculous. You are saying Sahaba knew that if we have it in this order then people will understand the Quran. I can guarantee not a single non scholar Muslim understands what is going in the Quran. Constant jumping from topics to topics very childish behavior by God IMO.

Yes, Koran is a very tough classical. It needs life long deep study, research and hard work to be able to sufficiently understand it. It may take 8-10 years for its simple recitation.

It's not childish, it keeps up with the attention of a short attention span being like a human. Poetry isn't aimless but it does reference other things in between to paint a vivid picture. There's nothing that comes close

Most of us are none scholars and do understand what Quran is telling us, in fact you are the exception to the rule, If a human author can only organize his thoughts to make It clear to the reader, Quran has a devine Intent where Allah is showing revelations in His own way while making It clear, for example in a novel, you might forget a chapter after jumping to the next one, while you find in Quran a similar verse in 2 surahs after, probably to remind you of how important It is, since repetition is key for memorizing, there is also Hadiths that came from prophet Mohammed peace be upon him explaining and expending upon what Quran came to teach people, and Allah knows best
