Love how you didn't mention an age restriction for being "too old". Too many dancers don't take those steps of achieving their dreams cuz they think they are too old. ❤

I'm 21(22 Next month) and just started ballet again. My goal isn't to go professional obviously but I do want to get onto pointe. When I was 13/14 I was about to go onto pointe then I got pulled out of dance class due to funds and since then it has been an itch I can't scratch. I eventually sucked up the courage to start again and I could't be happier. There is something about ballet where no matter how tired or how much pain there is, you just want to dance and push yourself.

But it's literally January right now, so I'll have to wait until the fall... I am very, VERY mad at myself for not doing ballet, jazz, and tap since I was 3 or 4. So bummed out right now...

ellie rue- it’s never too late to start- I know girls who started pointe work while at uni (as a member of the university dance club) and were able to do pretty advanced dances after a year. Just make sure you get a good teacher and if you plan on doing pointe make sure to go to a dance shop and get a proper fitting done to make sure you get the right size and style to ensure you don’t injure yourself.

For me when I can't get over my box it's usually because my shoes are not broken in enough. However when I had just started my feet didn't know how to use my pointe shoes(my feet didn't know how to use the different muscles that you use in pointe shoes making it hard to get on my box and stuff). If this is your case as well, you might want to do some feet strengthening exercise so you can get stronger feet and be able to use those muscles to get over. Hopefully that helped 🙂

I find that it helps to rise up onto the box in second position and then plié while still en pointe. Then when you straighten back up, (still on the box) notice the change in what muscles you use. You can then apply the different use of muscles in order to get over the box better. I'm not sure if this works for everybody, but it has helped me a lot!

My 3 year old daughter is obsessed with the idea of being up on her toes. It has gotten to the point that I have had to ask her ballet teacher to talk to her about it as I am really worried she will damage her feet. Thankfully since then she seems to be not trying to do it as much, I can now go tell her she has to wait another 10 years haha.

@@Lock484 yeah, it isn't serious ballet, they learn how to point their toes, do a demi plie and a tendu. At the end of the year they get to do a dance in the school concert and they are stinking adorable. You never know which kid is going to be the one sitting on the stage the whole time, which one will know all the moves and which one will try to cartwheel across the stage (try being the key word). She is 4 now and has moved up into the next class. It is still fairly relaxed though. Our school doesn't really start becoming more serious until around 6-7 years.

I danced on pointe from 13-20, at amateur level the entire time. My feet are still fine and look pretty nice. When I was doing pointe my knuckles developed calluses. If you don’t like that look pointe may not be something you want. Honestly I had fun at the challenge of pointe, you have to articulate and be much more in tune with your body. Ask your dance teacher if you are ready for pointe and if you want to go on pointe at all

My teacher says my feet are strong and flexible enough, and I should be able to get into beginner pointe but the person who decides which level i go into happen to come on THE WORST DAY WHEN I WAS SICK AND TIRED! so as you probably guessed, I wasn't that good. Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles and madness in this world today, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. Christ says in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.] - (AMPLIFIED version) NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. X

Even babies instinctually have the reflexes needed to swim and hold their breath, and we all float naturally if we don’t struggle. It’s only with age and potential fear that has developed that cause people to struggle with swimming/ needing to learn. The panic/ tensing of the body is what causes us to sink. No we don’t have gills, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t meant to swim. There are water dwelling creatures that don’t use water to obtain their oxygen source. You don’t have a logical point.
