The Indie adventure game, Eastward, is pretty solid in its own right. However, earlier this month, they released a DLC that has NOTHING to do with the main game, other that the art style and characters. Meet Octopia!
For fans of Sterdew Valley, this new farm sim will feel surprisingly familiar!

Can you jump back and forth between the game and DLC? Like go do some gardening for a bit, then advance the story a bit, then garden again?

Nah, that would make sense though. They literally are two separate games that basically have nothing to do with each other. That’s why I’m surprised they didn’t release it as a separate game altogether. I feel like it would have been received WAY better that way 🤷🏻♂️

I feel like them not making it a standalone experience may really hinder sales and the game reaching to a larger audience. Especially since it isn't really an extension of the gameplay of the main story, they are two completely different genres.

Yeah, I 100% agree. Even just the nature of starting the game is slow because you have to launch the already lengthy startup of Eastward, then open Octopia and launch it. It’s a small thing, but it’s an unneeded hurdle that will prevent a lot of people from playing this solid game. My guess is they were thinking it would expose more people to their main game, Eastward, but I think the opposite is happening.

Just wanted to say I enjoyed the video. :) I have a couple of things I'd like to mention, but please don't take it as hate! The white background on your camera was a bit straining on my eyes, and I'd love to see it be transparent, or maybe have blurred out game footage behind you when you're in "full cam". The captioning was also kinda distracting to me personally, but I know it might be engaging to others. Other than that, I really enjoyed the video. Keep it up!

Guarantee their board meeting was like, Ceo: "oh we published Stardew and made millions on it! Let fool our audience by making a farming simulator dlc. People will buy it 🤡"

I mean, it worked on me. I already owned Eastward, but yeah. Agree it should have been a separate game, as opposed to DLC.
