While many artists can cross their career branches, it seems that Hailee Steinfeld's music career isn't showing the same success of her iconic film career.
In this video, we're going to go over Hailee's emergence into music, and try to find out why she isn't reaching the same heights she has in film.

I see Hailee Steinfeld’s career as similar to Bridgit Mendler. I think they’re both incredibly talented and make amazing music! But neither of them struck me as someone who saw having a music career in the forefront of their life. They had other priorities. Hailee still has a great acting role and it feels like she focuses more so on that than her music (and Bridgit decided to finish college).

Same with Sofia Carson tbh. She’s had some great collabs with Alan Walker, Rehab, Galantis, etc. but she’s clearly more focused on acting than singing.

Yeah, but I as a fan of her music, even though at this point I would love to have more than one full LP by her, I understand having priorities. Sadly not everyone it’s gonna be there when she finally decided to go full on to music, but if she’s creative enough, she’ll still make it big

Noble Obodum Sabrina’s “problem” is the same as Demi’s. Not cutting off Hollywood Records fast enough. They’re great at promoting young stars geared at being played on Radio Disney and having a younger audience. But when it comes to the mainstream... they suck. I think Sabrina has 2 more albums left before she fulfills her contract and then she can sign to someone else.

I love Bridgit Mendler's "Hello My Name Is..." album. It has nice pop tracks that sound fun and comforting. I also love her "Lemonade Mouth" songs. "Somebody" is excellent.

"Starving", "Rock Bottom, and "Let me Go" are such great singles and should have charted much higher. Still rooting for her future material.

she should've put the album out around the starving / most girls era, she had the momentum to build her image. the reason it's taking sooo long for her to put music out is her acting career has been skyrocketing in recent years and she just has to keep delaying music in order to take on the other opportunities she's given. if she takes the marvel hawkeye show I'm pretty sure we won't hear any music from her for quite some time. her acting will always keep her relevant tho.

Afterlife is the most underrated among all these & it's one of my fav songs of hers...it has even less views on YT compared to her other MV's. wish it got more recognition...ig since it's a soundtrack (and not an album song) to the Apple series in which she starred in the Titular role "Dickinson" (about poet Emily Dickinson) it might have gone unnoticed to a lot of people.

I used to think Hailee was basic because of the typical pop sound she had in the past. She sounded great but she lacked a unique identity for me to distinguish her apart from those already in the industry. But recently I’ve chanced upon her newer music and I loveeeee her new sound. I love that even her voice and style evolved so much! I think she needed time to grow & find her direction and identity as a singer and I can’t wait to see what else she is going to put out next!

In many ways, Hailee reminds me of Selena. Her music impacts me so much, her happy songs make me happy, and the sad ones make me sad, and lyrically some songs are quite good. But I do agree with everything you've said, I'd to see her music with a different production.

Its a shame she doesnt get as much recognition as she should be getting! I actually do think that her music is very diverse which is a good thing but the most important part is that the messages behind her songs are incredibly important for her entire fanbase. And not only is her singing truly inspiring but also her acting and especially Hailee herself as a person. She is seriously an icon to so many people which is completely understandable if you take some time and look at the way she is. Honestly the nicest and humblest celebrity I've ever seen. She also always mentions herself that she couldnt choose between acting and singing if she had to and if she is absolutely happy with what she is doing then that is what I call success!

I like her music and I like her. It can be difficult being a crossover artist. You are going to be known more for one thing, either singing or acting. Its difficult to be a hit on both sides. At one point she was going so hard on the music side and was actually blowing up! Then she started Dickinson then Hawkeye, etc. and has become more known for acting. It was hard to make a comeback, yes because it had been so long, and she stopped making music during the height of her music career. But also it is important to mention that the internet also evolved. The way people consume art changed. As it stands now, art is in the hands of the people and you have to actually be hot to be hot. You have to develop your own brand and go hard. There is only so much these record labels from the 80's and 90's can do for you in this new age of social media. Now a days the numbers are more honest.

I wish she would dedicate more of her time to her music career, she has so many bops... She had her debut five years ago and till this very day she hasn't released a full album yet, I don't understand why. I can't tell you how many streams I have given to "Let Me Go", "I Love You's" and "Afterlife"! It's a shame her record label isn't concerned about giving her the promotion she deserves.

Sorry, but as much as I followed JLO and she has hella catchy tunes, ICONIC is such a big word to use for a career based mostly on samples and zero originality, her music career just follows trends, never impose them.

Hailee is now signed as marvel hero Kate Bishop and I think her acting career will be skyrocketing from here on. She will also gonna reprise her role as gwen Stacey in spiderman into the spider verse. I'm not sure about her music but one thing i love about hailee is how brilliant an actor she is.

I first became a fan of hers when I saw true grit in theaters. I'm a bigger fan of her acting work than music. And that's mainly why I think she's not as big. She is well respected in the acting biz mostly. But considering how hard she works at both, she's extremely successful regardless.

2 things; 1. At the start of Ariana Grande's music career she was in her teenage yrs also signed to republic records she was forced to sing songs given to her by Republic Records Hailee entered the same record label around the same age, which leaves me to say it could be her age 2. Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato & Selena Gomez were all either on the Disney channel or Nickelodeon which has a lot of successful tv shows and movies which could be the reason for their prominent success in the music industry and also bc for Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande the were on a music themed tv series & Demi Lavato was involved in a movie like this

I like Hailee Steinfeld's music a lot. It is weird that her music career hasn't gone over the same as her acting one. I think poor promotion by her record label is a big reason. But, that can't explain everything. I think it's similar to how Ariana Grande came away with a big music career, but fellow co-star Victoria Justice did not. I thought they were both just about as talented on their show "Victorious", but Ariana was the only one who scored big. The "Half Written Story" EP is one of my Top 10 favorite releases of the year, almost Top 5, so some people do like Hailee's music. At least she hasn't given up on her music career, like Victoria Justice did. And I think, despite her poor showing on the charts and setbacks, she should keep at it. I really like Hailee's music.

I’m not super familiar with Hailees music, so I just went and listened... I actually recognized three of her songs, Let Me Go, Most Girls, and Love Myself from my gym! They play regularly and I enjoy them. I think the lyricism on most of her songs is quite good compared to a lot of other things out there right now, and I do think that she should deserve a little more credit than she was ever given. But, at the same time most of her tracks sounded quite similar, with similar, main stream topics. If she had released more frequently and her record supported and endorsed her more, I think she could’ve done even better!

As the pace she’s releasing music, she doesn’t even need a label.... I know everything is easier having one, but what they are expecting to? That songs got popular magically? It had happened, but it’s not her case, and if she’s doing it just as a side job, releasing music independently would be better.

I was just thinking to myself that you or honest should make a video about this topic. I love Hailee a lot. I love her music. What it all comes down to is that she needs a really big song again to get her music career going and more label backing. The biggest problem right now with her music career is that she had so much momentum going with Starving, Let Me Go, and even Most Girls and to put it simply it was wasted. I understand music is probably always going to be a side venture for her because she is a fantastic actress. But I believe that if she put out her first album right on the heels of these songs she could of been bigger. Her latest EP imo is good. It's different from what she did before and while almost none of the songs are "radio friendly" I definitely agree that it shows a more mature side of Hailee. If we do get the second EP off of this project I'm hoping for some radio friendly songs that can give her that push to be in the pop girl circle. I think if she did a collab with someone like Doja Cat or an up and coming singer/rapper it would definitely shine some light on Hailee too.

I do think that some of her later works are better. My favorite of her songs is Afterlife from the Dickinson TV series. It has a very pop but also a haunting vibe. The Half Written Story EP is not bad either

she always takes music as a part-time job while always be present in the acting. she is anna kendrick's type I think. she can act and if she is given a song to sing for a certain movie, she is gonna do it but it seems like she doesn't exactly like music that much. her focus isn't music i can tell. she only ventures into music as a stepping stone(?)idk what's that called) cuz you need to know that she started from doing films so the primary goal for her imo is acting.

She is more valuable than Anna k in cinematic scene. Her presence commands leading role. The reason why she almost stole scenes in pitch perfect 2 and 3 in spite of her late participation in the franchise. Hailee will get more major roles now. And as for her music career, I'd like her to be an indie singer than mainstream.

And when she was more focused on music, this girl did SOO much. From live shows big and small, to collaborations, dropping singles, and she does more interviews than any celebrity I know of, literally. Do your research, true fans know how much of a work a holic this girl is.

Hailee is great in music as well as in movie industry. I do listen to her music and I think almost all of her songs are hits. I guess we cannot say the same about a lot of musicians. Her lyrics is not trivial and makes you think. Her music and voice fills you with energy and positive vibe. So, I think, she knows what she does, and she does it right. One moment though, I don`t know what is going on her live concerts with the sound, but in records as I hear it`s not good at all. To compare with Billie Eilish live concert the quality of the sound is much better. I guess, the organizers of Haiz`s concerts should work on it, but probably it`s the distortion of the record on mobile phones. Anyway, I wish her success in all spheres from all my heart. She is perfect!♥

I'm still sad that "Rock Bottom" never became a bona-fide Top 40 hit. To me at least that was an infectious earworm on first listen. I'm shocked it never got a full promotional treatment. What I will concede is that..............................while I do like Hailee a lot and have rooted for her from the very beginning........................if I'm being honest with myself she was rarely a force with streaming. "Starving" was her only release that connected heavily via streaming and other metrics, but every other single of hers failed to catch on the same way. To their credit "Most Girls" was a hit with KZfaq and "Let Me Go" managed enough longevity on the radio charts to be eligible for recurrency after peaking.......................but as evidenced by their Billboard Hot 100 peak positionings, neither succeeded at catching fire across all metrics, especially streaming. I don't necessarily think the window has closed on her entirely in the hopes of having more mainstream success as a recording artist. Especially if she lands a marquee feature vocal on some major blockbuster film with crossover appeal a la "We Don't Talk About Bruno". But yeah, it's such a shame we don't have that debut album yet.

keep doing whatever makes you happy honey you are good enough to do both. having said that, I think she should make acting be the day job. she is a great actor. her music career seems slighlty inauthentic. maybe I am totally wrong on that about that, just the casual view of guy probably to old to be commenting on this. If I had to bet money about what she does. I would say we will see her focus mostly on acting and then her music becomes more of a passion. I think she will find a way to do more authentic music. I think she will be like the singer Pink. pink came out hip-hop then later found a music career that was more authentic. I am not saying Haliee will go in rock/punk genre. I just think there is something more authentic for Hailee. Hailee seems too smart to just be another fabulous pop star. she is kind of going back and forth between being a supermodel and the cute girl next store. I dont know, maybe its wrong to put her in a cateogory and make her be just one thing, but thats just my take as a causual fan. I hate saying anything critical, because she seems like a really genuine person. for some reason I expect she will be a great mom and do some really important charity work too. she is the whole package. i am sure she has fans. she obviously loves doing music. i hope she keeps making herself and her fans happy.

I think she is more of a streaming artist. Her streams are pretty high even through she does chart often. Her label doesn't promote her much and also her film and TV career is more dominant so she focuses more than that

I think at one point she was doing songs more than acting then that switched and now tons of people forgot she has new songs (plus it doesn't help that her label barely promotes her)

Commenting this before having watched the video, so don't murder me in my sleep. Here's my answer to the titular question: Because she's very inconsistent and has yet to release a full length album. Also her latest EP is pretty bad, unfortunately. IMO, she should've stuck to the Haiz era kind of sound and/or the Starving vibes.

I think she needs to change her music label. Shes an amazing songwriter so maybe she can try one that would allow her to be creative on new songs. Then should go on tours. But shes too busy as an actress.

Well JLO was initially signed to rival Mariah Carey... and she “borrowed” a lot of up and coming artists styles and Vocals around that time.. 😓 but great video

8:46 JLo also succeeded highly because Mariah Careys ex husband got with her and tried to make Jlo bigger than mariah to spite her I believe. I remember theres a lot more to why Jlo was successful behind the scenes, you should cover it in a video one day
