As a kid I didnt have wireless internet until well into the PS3’s lifecycle. This franchise was the first one I got invested in and loved, and I spent so much time playing around in it. I wasnt online at all, so I had nobody to talk to about with regard to my love of the series. In 6th Grade Social Studies I met this kid who also picked “Samos” as the Greek island he wanted to present on because he had also played Jak. This guy loved the franchise even more than I did, going so far as to eventually build his own custom skateboard with Jak and Daxter on it with some precursor flair. I think he even had a Jak statue on his desk in college, something to keep him going while he tried to get a degree in game design. The last time I saw him was while playing Pokemon Go with some friends during that summer it released. We were doing runs in the historic district of town, which this guy lived in, and we actually ran into him while he was out skating on his Jak board. That fall semester he was hospitalized and later passed away after being struck by a car on campus while boarding. When the ports came out for PS4, I made damn sure to platinum TPL for him. I always love when videos like this get made. It reminds me of him, but it also reminds me that there is so much love both in how this franchise was constructed and in how its remembered.

Fun stuff. I worked as a sound designer on Jak3. I remember spending a lot of time balancing out the quality of sounds that I could create with the amount of memory space allotted to be able to use them. All of the PS2's disc streaming resources were 100% allocated to graphics so we had to maintain pretty much every single sound asset in resident memory (around a paltry 500K) and a single load point for tiny level-specific swap-outs at the beginning of levels. Very challenging... even Daxter on the first PSP was more flexible in that regard. Then came the XBox360 and I never had to worry about that stuff anymore. It definitely made me a more clever sound designer tho!

The vision that naughty dog wanted to achieve of an open world platformer with high quality cutscenes and characters to drive the story was just....an ingenious idea....a revolutionary take on game. With every new Jack and Daxter game I personally feel they got closer and closer to their original vision. My personal favorite is Jack and Daxter 2 but I do think 3 was "the best" this was a time where every new development improved the quality of the series not milking the original story. Always they developed always they added more to bring that open world platformer to life. I grew to love and pity some of the characters. I cried when the journey was over. I replayed the trilogy as a whole at least 10 times over. This series....The progression of the series...it's beautiful. This was a different time and I am thankful to you for reminding me of my younger days.

"This shit plays like a Sasuke AMV looks" might be the best thing I've ever heard. And your analysis on Dark Jak has begged me to add some nuggets, as well. In a world clear of those who remember eco's spiritual application, Jak, someone from the distant past, brings it back in its purest form as violence. Oppressive eco for an oppressive world.

At an time you wanted to you could make Jak 4, a _real_ *Jak IV.* Then they started The Last of Us, just to prove they can handle running to serieses concurrently... specifically to piss me off. Well, probably not me, specifically, I'm a Nintendo simp... but the broad demographic of people who enjoy platform games.

@@Wendy_O._Koopa Actually there were plans for Jak 4 there was even concept art that you can find on KZfaq. Supposedly it was supposed to be a continuation/gritty reboot. But it ultimately fell apart
@Wendy_O._Koopa2 жыл бұрын
@@Drums_of_Liberation Well, my statement still stands. At any point they pretty much only need the desire to start the project again. In the real world, it's a bit more complicated than that, they have to convince shareholders or something; but they've done it before, they can do it again.

Precursor has left one of the biggest impacts on my life of any 00s era game. Making a Jak cosplay is also one of my best experiences as a cosplayer too. Seeing others get excited about this often forgotten game is wonderful, so as a fellow fan, thank you for making such a great video on this series.

Every time I watch one of your vids I find myself falling in love with the art you talk about, and feeling like I have a renewed understanding of the story it tells. It's a beautiful feeling, and it reminds me of how I felt venturing through some of the works I grew up on and rooted my love of these mediums in. Thanks for showing me so much more to love in Treasure Planet, The Road to El Dorado, and now Jak and Daxter. I'll be sure to revisit this work too, in hopes of experiencing it again, but with a better understanding and more love in my heart for the beauty built into it.

Unfortunately, I never played any of them (With the exception of a Jak 3 demo) until a couple of years ago, well past the point of childhood development. Instead I had Ratchet and Clank 3 and Deadlocked, among many other wonderful PS2 IPs like War of the Monsters. After playing them, I really wish I could send a message to myself in the past to get these games so I could have that nostalgia for them. Legendary.

Daxter is my personal favorite video game companion/sidekick. If it weren't for his commentary/jokes in the 1st game I probably wouldn't have enjoyed playing it since Jak didn't talk. His spin off game actually shows that he is capable of being a hero in his own right and a comic relief character can have dramatic moments. In the 2nd game we actually got to see his and Jak's relationship develop and we actually see why they are such good friends/heroic duo. And the 3rd game brought their friendship to the test when Daxter stood by Jak when no one else would and he got his happy ending getting his glory, girl, and pants. Oh, and let's just all agree that the last 2 games aren't relevant to their story!

Another breadsword sword, another bout of tears. Seriously, your observations and the set up with which you present them, mixed with your perfect editing, sound and music choices and a narration that feels intimate - like I'm talking with a friend - always leave me with genuine tears at how beautiful story telling can be in all kinds of media. I had a very similar experience growing up with these games and they molded my own skills and preferences for storytelling so I was so excited and happy to see you talk about them. I urge you to never stop doing what you do, because it really does make people happy and your efforts are recognized. Thanks from a little kid who would always look out at the stormy sea from the docks of Rock Village and wonder about the world. 🖤

The 'Collateral' in Jax 2 was even obvious to me as a kid. It was so hard to NOT hit people, it dawned on it that it had to be intentional. Thereafter, I swore I would NEVER use another vehicle. And save for missions, I didn't. And in missions I always reset if I ran over a pedestrian.

Thank you so much for this video. I first stumbled upon this video a few months ago and was happy to see some appreciation for one of my favourite game series of all time. Although I didnt expect the shere quality of this throwback to my childhood, I'm happy to have found something as passionate as this. I first played these games like ten years ago, starting with Jak 3, which I played a lot with my older brother. It always was a blast and seeing this video finallly gave me the last push to play these games again, thanks to my roomates old Ps2 and a rebuy via Amazon. Playing these games again brought back a feeling of joy you can only can experience as a child, sometimes I felt like I was nine years old again. Now I'm 21 and have just finished Jak 3. Times are much more rough, but thanks to you I had that feeling of security and joy from my childhood again. I'm watching this video for the second time, as I'm going to sleep, having a lullaby from my childhood, something special. I think I would put these games on my personal record too. Thank you.

from the first time I watched your video on treasure planet, explaining everything that made that movie hit me so hard when i was just a child to this. You keep reminding me that there are reasons that art can be in many forms. your story telling and expanses on your own memory and feelings throughout the time we've all travelled without realizing we all move through it together. thank you for bringing back that joy and wonder of my youth, thank you for helping me remember what it feels like to think of all the reasons, feelings and events through my time here that helped shape me.

I watched this video a year ago and so many memories of my childhood playing Jax and Daxter it was one of the first games my parents got me for the PlayStation 2 on my birthday. my best friend and I played Jax and Daxter all night trying to get all the Precursor orbs. The sheer rage-inducing level of trying to get past the fire canyon on the hoverbike. I grew up playing the trilogy and falling in love with the story. I come back to this video every now and again to watch it and remember the good times. It's almost poetic that I am watching this on New Year's Eve talk about a perfect circle. I hope you have a great year BreadSword Love the work keep it going
