Japanese music is great but why? Basically it has a higher frequency of cool music theory stuff in the context of popular music styles, which contributes to the unique Japanese music aesthetic. I think this mix of "high and low" art makes for some of the best music out there.

You're the first person I've come across on here with damn near the exact same thoughts and appreciation for Japanese music and theory, and I appreciate you for that.

Generally Japanese people are less used to expressing themselves. Thus for Japanese people music becomes an outlet for all the feeling and expression to go into the music. This is my theory as to why Japanese music is superior at the moment, there is also a sense of originallity in Japanese music, that i think is really refreshing.

The biggest pro japanese music has over other countries, is imo that it does a much better job at conveying a certain feeling, like a song that's telling a story out of sounds. Even without the lyrics many japanese songs, especially in the anime genre tell a story just through ups and downs and tone in voice and music. It's a deep feeling it evokes in me Additional to that if you read the lyrics or understand japanese it becomes even more deep. Many japanese lyrics are very critical of society and give you a feeling of belonging, of not being alone with your dark thoughts

@@MrXpierce23 i was talking about living people, should've made that clear. I agree that old musicians were really good but today most are just following trends

You're talking about feelings and experiences. But the secret behind that is believe it or not: jazz. Whilst in western music, complicated chord progressions and experimenting with different styles were pretty much forgotten after 70's. Meanwhile in Japan they embraced the diversity of musical expressiveness and evolved further. In west we actually regressed to these braindead ever repeating 4-chord progressions infused to the 4/4, 6/8 or reggaeton beat..

I know this video is 2 years old, but since you said you were interested in artcore, have you listened to Hayato Asano’s music, especially the soundtracks for the Blue Reflection games?

cool video, love your appreciation of japanese music! my favorite melodies definitely come from japan. there's a subgenre of japanese metal/rock called "loud rock" that sounds similar to those japanese metalcore bands you mentioned. more so hard rock influenced than metal, with a lot of shouting and singing. MTH, Coldrain and ONE OK ROCK kinda fit into loud rock, although maximum the hormone does almost everything.

I thought this was true for the 90s to the early 2010s. But honestly everything is becoming waaaay too aesthetic in Japan. Ling Tosite Sigure was probably my perceived peak of function and aesthetic in rock, at rest. Aesthetic continues to increase in Japanese music, but somehow I feel less substance from it. This could be a whole conversation. I wanna make a video now lol Number Girl, Ling Tosite, Zazen Boys, Hinto...
