@@Ares14 after you guys got rejected by Othani (even after reportedly offering same exact contract as Dodgers)…you guys had to seriously overpay to get Lee. Yamamoto isn’t going to you guys either. So don’t laugh too hard now;)
@Ares147 ай бұрын
@@AVResonater i dont think anyone truly expects to see him in a Giants uniform.. I think he's either going to the Dodgers, Red Sox or Mets. I think the Giants next targets are realistically Matt Chapman and a 2-3 starter for the rotation. They have Webb and Harrison who may become a very good front end starter in the future. Padres and Giants fans just better hope Yamamoto doesn't sign with the Dodgers lol

Nice take. I think Farhan watched this 😂
@lowerclassbrats777 ай бұрын
Farhan is delusional if he thinks this is all he needs to do to satisfy the fans. This is interesting, but he needs to go get 2 stud starting pitchers. They'll need to overpay, but they need to bite the bullet to build a foundation to entice other vets to sign.

I certainly hope so. Plus, if memory serves, the Padres start next season playing some games in Seoul.... playing there with Kim and Lee both? You think playing a home game at Petco is energetic, those games in Seoul would be next level...
@SpringTriangle7 ай бұрын
The venue is likely to be the Gocheok Sky Dome which is the home of Kiwoom Heroes (Kim and Lee's former team in KBO) I guess this Seoul series will be really special especially for Korean fans
@DaveTheTurd7 ай бұрын
@@SpringTriangle I believe the Padres playing the Dodgers in that series... how is Ohtani received in Korea? Is he huge there like he is here?
@SpringTriangle7 ай бұрын
@@DaveTheTurd Absolutely. I could say Ohtani is extremely famous in Korea. Since it was announced that Ohtani was moving to the Dodgers, fans have become even more excited about this series and want to try to order tickets ASAP😂 Japan and Korea have such rivalry since a long time, so they eager to watch this series Ohtani vs Kim (although Yu is on the same side as Kim lol)

If the Padres sign Jung Hoo Lee, hope his batting translates. Kim is a success, but the Padres haven't had 100% success with Korean ballplayers, Choi was a disappointing acquisition late 2023 season. If this happens and the Padres give Merrill and Marsee a serious chance to make the club in Spring Training, the Padres could have a pretty good outfield and good prospects for the starting lineup in 2024, the remaining questions assuming at least one of the pitchers in the Yankees trade takes a starting rotation spot and maybe another a bullpen spot are filling the last 1-2 back of rotation spots a strong and trusted closer and at least a couple middle relief spots (assuming the setup role is filled). Preller still has lots of work to do but there's noticeable progress.

Choi is old and at the end of his career. I am hoping Le will take less time to acclimate to mlb pitching, but I would bet he struggles season 1. I hope the Padres land him though. My kind of hitter.
@micahanderson75237 ай бұрын
@@silasrobertshaw8122yeah, choi is irrelevant to wether or not Lee will be good with us. Kim is a way better example not only because of how he's played, but because he's lee's friend as well and even helped Lee during the season to adjust his swing to higher velo pitching. That is a massive advantage for us in signing him, as well as helping his adjustment to MLB.
@baseballnow17 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say 32 is old for Ji Man Choi. I would just say he has never really been a full time starter and maybe he still just isn't. He just is who he is and perhaps when he's eventually no longer wanted in MLB he'll immediately have a job in the KBO. He is very different from Jung Hoo Lee however as Choi has never played in the KBO. He went up through the MLB minor league system whereas Lee and Ha Seong Kim were KBO stars that are basically transfering over. Note that among the Koreans who have moved over from the KBO, Kim and Lee are the only ones to do so in their age 25 season. Lee has always been more highly regarded than Kim who was more of a late developer. Lee was already pegged for this MLB off season after winning Rookie of the year back in 2017. He's also won back to back batting titles and an MVP, Kim has neither.

He won't be able to slug for a premium outfield position. I prefer that he'd move to second base.
@baseballnow17 ай бұрын
he doesn't play infield AT ALL. And while 23 home runs were his career high in the KBO, note that they only play 144 games compared to 162 and as pitchers throw harder in MLB it's possible he does actually hit more home runs, but obviously with a lower average. Not saying I'd expect it but I could see him as a .280 hitter with 20 home runs in MLB while walking almost as much as he strikes out. That's better than most starting centerfielders. And he'll cost a 3rd of what Bellinger would cost.
@freedomtrucker23327 ай бұрын
..Grisham was indeed forced upon the Yankees ..why would they want a sub .200 hitter in their lineup ..? He was horrible as a Padre ..I kept waiting for him to light it up but it just never happened ..
