I think the role you have escribed to Tierney is more likely to be filled by either Kiwior or Tomiyasu. They are more natural centre backs and Arteta has shown more willingness to play them in an inverting midfield role than Tierney

Zinchenko is definitely more comfortable in the middle than out wide. He likes to invert so I disagree about that. Otherwise fantastic video mate, enjoyed it!

I think Timber can also create a double inversion in a 2 - 3 - 5 system - those three "midfielders" Declan, Tierney/Zinchenko, Timber would be an incredible ball winning midfield base to keep the pressure high on teams and never let them out.

Timber buy asides all this analysis gives arsenal the option of 2 capable central defenders on each side.. Saliba+White / Gabriel+Kiwior. Leaving Timber+Tomoyasu for RB & Zinch+Tierney on LB. Holding can be gone and it won't matter. Cause when Arsenal is short at CB, Timber can deputize and Tomoyasu can take RB. Theirs so much fluidity at the back and it's scary. Timber can also even play LB. It's a winner for Arsenal on the Timber deal.

Excellent video! You covered a few things I believe we will implement next season, however I think there is much more genius to what Arteta is trying to do. I think Arteta is trying to build a versatile team that can change their approach throughout the duration of a game and make it nearly impossible to predict what Arsenal will do. You stated in the video that Timber can also play as a centreback. Perhaps Mikel intends for his players to play in multiple positions. Let me explain, we're also linked to Frimpong and other fullbacks....Is Arteta building a system that makes it possible for players to take up false positions on the pitch to allow for numerical advantage? Is there a scenario where Timber can play as a cb and push into central midfield alongside Rice who then occupies the left space and whoever is the fullback inverts into midfield occupying the right space? If this is the case the formation could possibly be a 2-3-2-3 formation in posession? Allowing the two 8s/10s to push up higher into the final third smothering the defence in a 2-3-5 attavking formation. It gets better...... That fullback that inverts and occupies the right space in midfield can now push out onto the flank stretching the pitch and causing a possible 2-2-6 formation, or Rice can push further into attacking midfield and the fullback stays deeoer to form a pivot with Timber resulting in a 2-2-1-5 formation. That's just my opinion. It sounds crazy but it's pure genius if he pulls that off!!

There were a few games a few years ago where Arteta experimented with 6 attacking players with a 2-3 build up, consider if you will both timber and zinchencho inverting rice topping the 3 and then 5 attacking players, with rice driving forwards, this btw is how havertz makes sense.

I can imagine a backline of Kiwior-Saliba-White-Timber where all 4 players are capable of stepping into midfield for extended periods of time while still having a back 3 of CBs. Opposition teams would be absolutely clueless on how to stop our build up. Only issue is Gabriel doesn't deserve to be dropped and Kiwior probably isn't ready just yet.

Instead of Zinny or Tierney we can have Kiwior who can actually play DM, RB and CB. This way he or Timber can invert at a moment's notice. This will give Rice confidence to go forward more often.

Timber will simply give us the option of an inverted full back able to contribute in midfield from right back as Zinny has done from the left. Not sure what you mean when you say Zinny did his best work up the wing, was always at his best coming into centre mid last season nevertheless the evolution continues 🔥

Sounds like Arsenal are basically building a really strong and flexible squad who can be rotated, take up different formations and cope with injuries or lots of successive games (think Champions League) and the recruitment process is really working well with the manager. Only worry is whether there is adequate cover if Saliba gets injured again which may have cost them the title last year. An unsung hero till then.

Agree but would just like to add 1: Zinchenko not the best defender for big games more about control and 2: His injury record is not the best. Which makes the Timber signing even more important. can see kiwor or Tomi playing the left LB role to this season Think Tierney might be off.

I think the negative part is really a positive when at the back foot why risk when there is a way better easier option as while in attack you have to make those passes because even though you lose it you are still in their half so i dont really see how that is bad

I see what you're saying: Rice was worth blowing big money on as a core DM and then throw in Timber to go alongside or reverse with Zinchenko for flexibility and add in Havertz with Odegaard, it does make a good argument for signings, profiles, systems and in-game flexibility and boosting stats all converging together. One question I have is, are Arsenal still a bit physically small/slight eg set-pieces as a weakness?

Timber is joining Arsenal so that Arteta can improve his game further. Arteta will coach him to do a Zinchenko and even better, allowing him to take more risks going forward because he is very good with the ball at his feet.

I think Arsenal are preparing for the 2 options that City might have next season. It’s easy to forget about Cancelo. If he ends up staying back at City, they have 2 options as well, in the playing XI they can invert. Cancelo and Stones. It’s good forward thinking from Arsenal. Based on his stats, Timber sounds likd he could be a great DM, without the inversion. World class tackling, technical, quick, agile, progressive passes. And imagine Timber and Rice as DMs when we're protecting a lead. His conservative passing would be welcomed in this scenario. Could even play him as the 8 to utilise his frequent passing into final third, not to mention his technical abilty. Feel like Arsenal have so many options atm. I still think they need a goal scoring striker. Teams would struggle to plan for both Jesus, and a lethal goal machine. Would give Arsenal even more variety, teams wouldn't know how to deal with them.

this analysis is quite flawed towards the end. If teams figure out how to play against a box midfield, then arsenal gains nothing by having Timber invert instead of Zinchenko - coz it's still a box midfield that is shaped in the same way as before (only the personnel is different). Meaning that teams can stil counter the box midfield

It wasn't a 4-2-3-1 at all. It's a 4-3-3. That's not actually what invert means; that's what invert has come to mean because people are dumb. Inverted wingers' strong foot is opposite to the side they play on; inside forwards play inside but are not inverted as their strong foot is the same as the side they play on. "Inverted fullback" is a complete misnomer created by a pundit stumbling over his words, it should be INSIDE fullback.

Zinchenko just doing a job is questionable. He was revolutionary last season. And he's not how you described. He's more comfortable with the ball in the middle of the field. Tierney will likely go. What this does is allow us to Flip the inversion based on the winger we're facing.

Thought about this having two fullbacks playing who are both comfortable inverting. Issue is Tierney didn't do that well at all last season when it was asked of him, we very much missed zinchenko's control in midfield when we was injured. Likewise, when timber would invert issue would be zinchenko isn't comfortable in a back three at all
