Have you ever been asked to keep politics out of metal and stop criticising bands or artists for their behaviour?
Have you clicked on this video angry and ready to argue?
Then please watch it until the end and then let me know if you agree, disagree or what your arguments are. I'd love to have a civil discussion in the comments and share our views and experiences.
In my opinion metal is for everyone that agrees to be respectful towards other members of the community which includes not being racist, sexist or dicriminatory in any other way. Let's build a community based on acceptance and not racism, sexism and misoginy.

If separating the art from the artist is not possible then I hope you don't like music from Bowie or a lot of classic artists.

If metal bands started writing about being hardcore Republicans that would be fucking awesome.

Imagine anything less metal than right wing or "apolitical" metal xd

To me I see a lot of bands claiming the “correct positions” just to get clout. Imo it’s just signaling to your echo chamber. It’s a farce to believe that being in a band makes you an activist. If you’re into politics be an activist.

I dont really consider muself a metalhead anymore, but I can understand why the good people in the "metal comunity" would want nothing to do with this person

Politics in art is fine, as long as you’re not being milk toast about it and actually have something original to say, you know like the whole point of art

Personally, i know there are metal bands that cover politics. From both left and right. I get enough politics on daily basis. I want to listen something that isn't related to politics if possible. Heard a few songs here and there, and while the music would've been great. The lyrics just weren't for me. But art is art, if more people want to imply politics in their bands, go for it. Each to their own.

I think you make some good points, but I don't agree with trying to make the metal community a bunch of moderators. It's basically like an old lady looking out her window waiting for kids to do anything she sees as bad/wrong so she can storm out and scream at them. It just ruins things for everyone. Even people who agree with you.

Well, let's just say some people (not saying that's you, but let's entertain the notion) only have an issue with artists/bands if their politics goes against theirs. Somehow "it's all about the music" when the ideology aligns, no matter what they have done or said IRL.

political leaning doesnt matter to me, what matters is the music. if the music is good i am gonna listen to it, if the music is bad i wont listen to it. its as simple as this really...

Some people do like to find politics where politics isn't though. It is annoying trying to discuss an artist and someone just says they find this or that racist or sexist when they clearly missed the point. It is called media literacy and it in a decline in many parts of the world. It also is strange of you to point out a few songs and claim because they're political in nature that means metal is inheritably political. That is like calling Mister Rogers' Neighborhood a current event news show because occasionally they touched topics of what was going on in the world. It is a bit of a stretch despite not being incorrect. "Should the instrumental, vocals and sound be seen as the most important part" Sometimes. Sometimes the mood can imply to different parts of your life despite not intended to. The song might not be what you are interpreting it as and as long as you can acknowledge that it's fine. I am not going to agree with every artist I listen to. Entertainment is entertainment though.
