Wow finally hearing something that sits with me. I've been accusing myself for being a control freak, but, now that I hear you say here, I don't have a clue on how to tell if someone is right for what I need. So this uncertainty, this fear of making the wrong choice, wasting time, money, and risk exposing my business to the wrong people... is the reason I just have to do the job myself for now. In addition, for startups, we have to be even more careful. We don't have a lot of money to try and error. And mistake can take us many many steps back, sometimes can kill us. So, ... it's wisdom, guys, that we don't "delegate".

Not all people with the title “manager” should be managing people. Just because you’re skilled at a thing doesn’t mean you can “lead” others doing it. Thats a fact. This is why good people leave.

There I was for a second thinking my perception of this man's old thinking was unfair and he goes and makes a parent-child analogy.

There's a manager in our business who refuses to delegate. She makes 80k and never trains new employees to do anything. Instead, she spends time doing things like ordering office supplies, hanging clocks in the right place, hanging signs reminding others to wash their hands after using the restroom. She's a joke.

No secret formula or sauce. This is or should be all common sense! Put people as good and/or better than you all around you and you will be successful.
