This video was the answer to my game. Thank you so much for the information and the demonstration. I bought a mixed set of clubs and could never understand why I hit the perfect fade with my driver but all my irons went left and My wedges were straight on or had a very slight fade. It made me compensate and completely jack my swing and thought process up. Now I feel the sky is the limit with any club in my hand and I can hit a variety of shots.

Great video guys. I try to explain this to so many golfers, but I can never get them to actually realize HOW crucial, and amazing adjusting the lie angle for your golf game it can be.

This was a great video. I went to my local fitter to find out ALL my lie angles were off in my irons. They were corrected and I took my irons out to the range and I never hit such great iron shots in my life! If you were ever wondering if it makes a difference GET FITTED! It will save you the heart ache on the course.

Great video. It might be good for listener to know that each brand of club starts at a different lie angle. I.e. Like he said, the mizuno 6i is 61* standard lie but a Titleist 6i has the lie of 62.5*. So, it might seem obvious but don't be fitted by a Mizuno club fitting device then go by Titleist...and vise-verse.

I am a firm believer in lie angle adjustments. I have mine checked as much as possible. When i got my clubs they were upright 4 degrees then after some swing changes I have had them bent back down 2 degrees. Makes a big difference
@bruceferguson663711 жыл бұрын
Dennis, you're right. I think that incorrect lie in irons, especially long irons, is the reason so many people think they need to hit hybrids. I am 6'3", and have my cast Armour 855s adjusted upright 3 deg 3-7, and 2.5 deg 8-LW. Players using forged heads, because of the softer metal, need to have their lie angle re-checked every year or two. Ping's fitting chart is okay, but your natural swing will ultimately set your lie perameters.

This video taught me a lot about lie angle. I did not know that lie angle was so important in the golf swing. If the lie angle is off in your golf clubs you could constantly be making poor contact with the ball. Getting the correct lie angle could make your impact much better.
@ricksmith253012 жыл бұрын
This video helped me to understand that Lie Angle is the most important factor to consider when getting your clubs custom fitted. Without the proper lie angle you will miss hit allot of golf shot and affect your overall score but with the correct “Lie Angle” your shots will be crisper and more pure at contact.

@secretogolf ...If the Heel (the part of the club closest to you) is up, then yes, you would have to go more upright. And adjusting clubs with graphite shafts is no different than steel as long as the shaft doesn't go all the way through the clubhead (like on most Callaway clubs).

You're right it does vary. Most cast clubs can be bent up to 1 degree. There are some that can go 2 degrees. PING irons with the engineered NOTCH on the hosel can go 3 degrees. One of the brands I don't trust to bend at all is WILSON cast clubs.
@GolfWarehouseAtlanta13 жыл бұрын
@tens02 In my opinion there is a breakdown in your logic. I think you would agree that with a ball above your feet the ball has a tendency to go left correct? And with it below your feet the ball tends to go to the right. So this proves further that lie angle does affect ball flight...so why not get it right for "when" you're on a flat lie...

@jimmerpro537010 жыл бұрын
Static measurements o not determine what lie angle you should have they should be used as a starting point. Just because someone is tall doesn't mean that they will need an upright club. It is down to the way the player delivers the club at impact.
@ThePoet00712 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the vid. I checked my lie using your method. I have a normal lie. Nice to know.
@GolfWarehouseAtlanta11 жыл бұрын
Rob, Since you are dealing with "1/2 degrees", you are not splitting hairs there. I would say that a slightly uneven surface could throw you off by a degree or more. If I were you, I would do something to get your surfaces even. Add some material to the bottom of your lowest surface if you can.
@GolfWarehouseAtlanta11 жыл бұрын
It is very, very expensive to make cast clubs with different lie angles for consideration (like PING does). None of the companies except PING is set up to do this so it would mean a complete overhaul of their facility, equipment, and training. That's why we like selling PING so much. They even engineer a notch on the hosel to help with the bending. But you can never go wrong with a midsize or oversized forged club!
@scorpioncrow10 жыл бұрын
Doe's it also have to do with your height ? I'm roughly 5'7 and with my mid to long Irons, I feel I have to stand up straighter and almost have to get over the ball at impact just to have good contact. So I might need my clubs Flatter ???

I think that they do a great job in this video of breaking down the different lie angles and really helping people to understand that a reason they might not be shooting as well or hitting the ball as well isn't because of their equipment but because of how they are holding it or because of how its set.

I'm guessing a lot of your customers have bad swings, how do you adjust for that? Do you tell them you're adjusting for a bad swing and that they may have to change it again if they're working on improving their swing?
@GolfWarehouseAtlanta11 жыл бұрын
That's part of the skill. Keep in mind though one can measure on both axis directions so you can always double check that you are not changing the loft when you are only trying to change the lie.
@GolfWarehouseAtlanta12 жыл бұрын
First of all, ANYONE who slices the ball usually needs a more upright lie because they're coming in to the ball steep. I can almost assure you that's the case with you.

@AnthonyAtlanta404 ....unfortunately we cannot. We can adjust most clubs but because of the hollow construction of these, there are clamping issues mainly. I cannot stand golf clubs that cannot be adjusted...it's a dis-service to the end user. That's why I love PING clubs so much, because they are engineered to be able to be adjusted down the line.

Why did he demo with the pointer and PW ? Because face plane tilt is most prominent as with more loft essentially the lie angle is pointing the loft . For example if you guys had a club with 0degrees loft the lie angle wouldn't make any difference 2 flat and 2 up would point in the same place. If your lie angles are off you'll probably notice that the long iron misses are not as bad as the short irons , because the longer irons have less loft and therefore the lie angle have less effect . Even if your fitted for your clubs get them lie checked as soon as you get them because the manufactures have tolerances of +/- 1 degree when they make them so what your fitted for, you probably won't get. Good video

Hi guys! I just received my new Titleist AP2 712, 1/2 inch shorter and 1° flatter (I was custom fitted). I went to the driving range and I was pulling and pulling and pulling. Looks like the toe goes up a bit when I'm in position so I think that they need at least 2 more degrees but on the AP2's brochure it says that they only can be bend 2° flat from original....What do you think... :s Thanks in advance

Great explanation on lie angle. One question-I'm 5' 8" and it seems if I choke down an inch the ball goes straight, if I leave my hands near the end of the grip the ball goes left for a slice( I'm a lefty). I was thinking my lie angle is way off on my new Adams CB2's. Your thoughts? I definitely going to get them adjusted. Thank you.

I had no idea that each degree off meant 4 yards off the target line. However, I'm still not sure how you determine the number of degrees to offset based on the mark you get on the tape. Do you count in 1/4 inch increments toward the middle of the sole from the middle of the mark or the edge of the mark? Thanks for the info.

Hi I just bought the Taylormade RocketBladez Tour iron set in a standard Lie. I'm 5'6 and I can see that that Lie needs to be flatten out drastically. when I get it flattened, will they change all the clubs (3-PW) the same amount of degrees? Also is it safe for the rocketbladez to be bent? Thanks!

Every company pushes people to get fit!! Why don't they take in to consideration when designing a cast club? Since a cast iron can only be bent so much, they should atleast do something so the hosel can b bent. I have callaway razr x irons, do u know how much they can be bent? Thanks Good video!!!

golflegg, can you please respond to iig0tem's question in the comment below? I have the same issue. I feel awkward when I address the ball because the club heel does not sit flat on the ground (toe is in the Air). I am considering going 2 degrees flat to improve my posture at address. In your video I noticed before you changed lie angle your club sat flat on the ground at address, after you added 5 degrees it appears the club no longer sat flat at address.

I'm sure it varies between manufacturers, but in your experience, how far can cast clubs be adjusted? Your Mizuno is forged so it's easier to bend, but I've got some Wilson Staff Di9 cast game improvement clubs that I'm sure need to be bent upright by 3 degrees or so (I'm 6 foot 2). How far can an experienced clubfitter safely adjust a cast club? Thanks

I understand how you are changing the angle between the Y & Y axis , but the bending tool looks rather free handed, how are you being sure you are not changing the Z axis? Is the tool limited to the X & Y bend some how? Maybe the video did not show that part.
