When teams like Haas and Williams do well it’s a win for everyone watching. When Kmag got pole it was amazing, everyone was cheering, it felt pure…. Like a kid opening a present on Christmas

And the first year of the latest rule change Kmag had some pretty good results. It just goes to show you how good their team really is. They simply lack the resources and funding the top teams have had for decades. Hopefully this cost cap will help things become more competitive. Parity is very important. Good for Max and Redbull but it's no fun knowing who is going to win almost every race.

I hope with all my heart that Max will drive his last seasons for a team like Williams. He's a pure driver, now he's fully focused on winning everything, but surely that will wear out gradually. @Formula-Drive The improvement at Williams has been tangible since James Vowles joined. He said he was shocked at some of the ways Williams worked, saying other teams had moved on 20+ years ago. Particularly in the way their project management is handled, it's simply outdated. Williams might never win another championship, but they seem to be on the right track with James there. Their improvements are also less visible than they should be since it's basically just Albon showing up every weekend.

Ive been a Williams fan since the early 90's. Remember, majority, if not all of the engineers from their glory days are gone. Under Dorilton, they made the biggest mistake by not taking Honda engines when Honda was giving them away for free. A Williams Honda partnership would have ensured their financial success.

F1 is inherently a business, and so is running an F1 team. People don't throw away dozens of millions and millions of pounds for "the spirit of the sport", they do so because it makes financial sense in one way or another, whether financial incentive through a different revenue stream other than the constructors prize pool, or because there is inherent value to be obtained from running in F1 despite still losing. I'm no business or economics major here, but I feel like it's pretty silly that you missed that major point completely, instead rambling on and on about "passion" and other points basically relating to passion. Just my two cents on this so maybe this could be a lesson, a learning, for future videos. I really wished you talked about the economic side of this.

@bloqk16

I wondered about that myself as living in the US with an interest in NASCAR racing; whereupon someone did an answer for me many years ago: In the case of drivers that are field-fillers, it is with the money they can earn in a season, as it may pay better than in other lines of work. Prior to the economic downturn with NASCAR, a back-marker driver could earn from $75K ~ $100K [US] in a season, which pays better than being a tire-changer for a retailer that sells tires. But nowadays, NASCAR drivers don't make the big monies like they did 20 years ago. When it comes to back-marker racing teams, part of it could be ego that motivates them . . . somewhat like a person that wants to own and operate a restaurant . . . the person has a desire to run their own business and may have a talent to operate the business. As long as the income is better than the expenses, it is a way to make a living. Then, in cases where tax structures comes into play, a race team with higher expenses than income could still be profitable from the tax breaks they may receive when operating at a loss.

If winning isn't everything to you as a racer. You shouldn't be racing. Racing is a "competition". The reason to "compete" is to beat the other competitors. If your not racing for that reason you're just "participating", not competing. But I guess you always have to have field fillers. All though it seems F1 teams don't want another one(Andretti).

They need to change the format. Instead of everyone races sunday... qualify everyone on Friday. Top 10 in on sunday... bottom 10 race on saturday. Top 2 on saturday, get to race on Sunday seeded 6 and 7.

I certainly think the format needs changed but maybe it wouldn’t even be discussed if the WDC hadn’t been completed dominated past 2 seasons…

not entirely. Generally only the mid and backmarkers even post a net positive. The leading teams actually lose money in the pure racing alone, due to the sheer $$$ involved.

if they kept the current regulations for the next 5 years teams like Williams would eventually catch up to become podium contenders. With Ross Brown gone, the man who pioneered the current regulations that created close racing for the first time since the 80's. If you want cars to follow take the Monza spec rear wing and make it the maximum size for the season and bring back the tires size of 2007 with grooved tires. Teams would be force to find more downforce from the under side of the floor. Politics hold back Formula One from being the best it can be. Get the teams out of the decision making process in exchange for a bigger piece of the pie. Politics got rid of Ross Brawn and other key members who created the current regulations.

You forget marketing purposes. Gene Haas has explicitly stated the Formula 1 endeavor exists to promote his Tooling company. He does have a passion for racing, but he seems to be ok with mediocre results if it still yields benefits to his tooling company. E.G. He was an even worse back marker in NASCAR before his partnership with Tony Stewart.

I honestly feel like the lack of real consequences for finishing bottom consistently are bad for the sport overall. Even finishing last provides a big enough pay out that may not incentivise a team to do better. There should be some kind of relegation system so that bottom teams are encouraged to race even harder. Wed also see more interesting battles this way i feel
