So they should’ve kept 2 starting caliber guards and pay both like that? That literally makes no sense. If they didn’t have Luka I’d agree, but Brunson did nothing of note aside from those couple games there. Why? Because Luka is better at every aspect of the game who also dominates the ball. It didn’t work, it didn’t make sense. If he stayed he’d be a glorified 6th man and never got the breakout we got to see. Mavs needed a guard who could play off ball which they got in Kyrie, and drafted a center that protects the paint and is a lob threat. Mavs won in the end

"because Mavs already had a play maker, scorer, plus he’s bigger" but the Mavs ended up paying Kyrie more than what JB makes and Kyrie "isn't bigger" than Luka and they already had "a playmaker and a scorer" when they traded for Kyrie and the signed the extension for him

Harden in OKC LaVine in Minnesota Brunson in Dallas All three of them showed so much potential, but were overshadowed by the star players they played with. Harden didn't get the contact he deserved, cause of KD and Russ's importance during that time. I've always felt like LaVine was alot more talented that Wiggins in their first couple of years (possibly is still now) not to mention KAT was the guy in Minnesota. Brunson just happens to be playing with possibly one of the upcoming greats in Luka (They could've still payed him tho.) But all of these three players shined brighter in the team that gotten them. Harden winning MVP, Allstar, being one of the best offensive players of all time, Lavine being an Allstar twice, Brunson being the best player in New York and being an Allstar this year too! I'd add Tyrese Haliburton in this conversation too! A bunch of overshadowed talents in their early careers.

Obviously the Carmelo move was big and you had those late 90s early 2000 teams with Alan, Houston, Larry Johnson, and Sprewell. All of those guys were good in their own right and then you had guys that it was all hype but we’re not as good as it seemed like a Jeremy Lynn or Porzingus. This is different, dude didn’t come with a whole bunch of fanfare. He wasn’t a high round draft pick he actually a talented player not a gritty player“ like they usually win with in their past.
