Mamamoo is not an older group it's been only 6 years since their debut and they became very successful soloists in very short time and for your information they ate pretty much popular in south Korea right now

They are the 3rd most popular gg in Korea though ( I forgot what video that I've watched ) after Apink and Girls Generation and 2nd most requested group in all school festivals after PSY

I think they can be considered as old as they're the 3rd generation group and nowadays there's a lot of new 4th generation groups and I think what Rayonii meant by 'not as famous' maybe in terms of worldwide because yeah they are really popular in Korea

Yesss!! Just because they're not as popular worldwide as other girl groups doesn't mean they're less worthy. I mean why do we need western/US media or industry validation for a group to be considered as successful right? I mean even those industries are full of bullshit so why do we need their validation. MAMAMOO is one of a kind artist who is multi-talented and genuine and that's a fact!

@@misslilyhyun What on earth do you mean by Western validation, media and music industry in the West do not buy records, it is the music fans. The difference is, as far as I know, we don't have this fandom thing, telling you to stream, vote, buy etc. Personally I buy records based on the music, not the dance (except for PSY lol} or the visuals, when I do I am not validating anything, all I saying is wow that's a good song. It's quite obvious that the Kpop businesses do want to be successful in the West as it's a huge market which equals money, BP Coachella was a big deal in Korea and now collaboration with Ariana Grande/Selena Gomez whoever , maybe Korean fans don't like it but Korean Kpop businesses love it. Now Mamamoo, it does matter they are underrated (but not internationally), that's mostly in their own country, nothing to do with Western validation, they are head and shoulders above all current GG and it's down to their vocals, music and powerful/fun performances {Destiny Vlive) but they don't have the home based fandom like other groups and, maybe if they promoted in the West more this would not matter, that's their companies fault. It also matters because they have one year left on their contract and, maybe, they want to settle down and have kids, this, should have been their year but, we know what happened. I bought all their albums based on that Vlive Destiny performance, same with SNSD because of Taeyeon's I. The only group that may become as good, is Gidle purely because their leader is so talented with all aspects of music she, is in another league. Sorry for rant Cheers

What I mean by western validation is like when the western media/industry took interest in them like Billboard or whatever it is but then eventually just using them for clout just like what happened with BTS like they don't really appreciate the artists and music so I don't want MAMAMOO to experience that. And what makes you think that when artists enter US market then only they can be successful and earn money? I think that's a really wrong mindset. Plus, MAMAMOO is a genuine artist who do music because they love it regardless of the result or fame.

The concept of "underrated" is rooted in the idea of groups not getting what they should be getting based on their talent in comparison to other groups who get more for being worse. Comparisons will always exist for 2 reasons: 1. That's how the human brain works. 2. That's how the kpop industry works, rankings of brand popularity and names every months, music show wins, song rankings and sales on every fucking apps. It's impossible to avoid comparisons no matter how much you cry about it. And for as long as groups release garbage songs full of cringy innuendos plastered over a repetitive simplistic trap beat and plug in Selena Gomez for no valid reason other than making an easy buck, there will always be people with brains who point out the injustices of this industry and the lack of the taste in the majority of listeners. I fucking said it and I'm not sorry because I don't have to apologize for saying a red apple is red.
