I only started collecting a couple years ago. I'm 54...I was making Barbie furniture, had just a couple dolls. Watching my Froggy Stuff for ideas, she showed me RH & MH & in the rabbit hole I sank ! It's all Toya's fault. But I'm having so much fun. Love this hobby.

As a longtime Barbie collector and as a kid I was always drawn to the glamour and fantasy of Barbie, she looked like a moviestar or fashion model. Even the 'work' outfits were fashionable. I think Mattel confuses the idea that Barbie should be inclusive and more attainable for basic, bland and simple. I think mostly kids from this period will attach to is the diversity of the dolls and dolls they recognize themselves in, but definitely not the fashions, fantasy or quality.

I'm a 80's Barbie collector because they look like they came from those glamour soap opera tv-series like Dynasty and Dallas, so if you like glamour Barbie;s then i would go for the early 80's Barbie's, i do agree that those Fashionistas from 2009-2010 where amazing too, i like those names as Summer, Nikki, Teresa, Raqualle, Glam, Sporty, Wild, Sassy and Cutie, to bad they stopt with that Barbie line but i'm overal more a 80's Barbie collector but ionly buy the one that i really like.

I try to get characters of RH that I " dont" have already. But I have bought 3 same, to customize. Monster High though ? I can't do that. WE can't do that, because each release is better than before, so ....uggghhh, I never thought I'd have almost 4 of the core dolls. Between new G1 style collectors to G3. They've got us hook, line & sinker !

honestly so honest, modern barbie is not it! The quality is horrible and effort to rebrand her as a lifestyle brand has taken so much from her as a fashion doll. Its why other fashion dolls can be legitimate competition 4 her. Shes on par with Barbie clones. I also think the only reason Barbie is proving to be successful right now regardless of this is b/c Barbie's rebrand and marketing is 4 parents. Selling to the parents is a good short term goal... but long term... something has to change with barbie
